My friend just posted this on Facebook this morning. She isn't on MN so I have her permission to share. She would really like more people, especially people with ASD or who have children with ASD, to write to NAS thanking them for their willingness to listen and their agreement that Mermaids is not reputable.

This is really great news so please can we keep this bumped and shared. Thank you.

If posters on the SEN board would like to share that would also be great (if appropriate).

Dear XXXX ,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Gender and autism page on our website.

I’m writing to let you know that I’ve raised your concerns regarding Mermaids UK, one of the organisations we link to on our Gender and autism page, with a number of teams within the National Autistic Society. In light of the concerns raised in your message, and of other feedback that we have received, we have decided to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website, while we take the time to consult with relevant professionals and to reconsider which organisations we wish to place links to on our website.

As such, our Web Team are working to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website as soon as possible. Please do be aware, however, that, as we are currently in the process of updating our website to reflect our new branding and organisational identity, it may take a few days for this to be actioned.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and I hope that you are satisfied with the actions we are taking in light of the concerns that you have raised.

Kind regards,

National Autistic Society

Godwin himself has said that comparison with the Nazis is a good thing in certain circumstances. This is one of those certain circumstances.

Children should not be sacrificed at the alter of narcissism.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 06/10/2018 19:07

You are forgetting people from groups with protected characterists have long long histories of being opressed, hurt and killed and there are things which are still very very raw.

but to lack absolutely any empathy with these other groups and to try and claim they are transphobes for not wanting history to repeat, that's sick, can you really not peak outside of that bubble and understand you are not the only people on the planet, somethings have nothing to do with you?

Some people will not be beaten down and silenced.

This. This this this this.

We need one of those BBC "If you have been affected by anything in todays thread please call the following helplines."

If anyone reading has suddenly realised why this is an issue to people with Autism please please contact the NAS and let them know.

Flowers to all.

Please reply to genuine questions.

You keep saying that autistic people who identify as trans deserve support.

I agree 100% with that and guess that everybody else on here does too. What we are objecting to specifically is suggesting that what Mermaids offer is "support.

I have explained clearly why I o next to Mermaids and you don't respond.

Give me your definition of gender . Tell me what the biological basis of that is?

Repeating so getting again and again doesn't make something a fact.

What is gender?

pennydrew · 06/10/2018 19:25

I actually can’t believe these ableist morons are still on this thread after insulting the autistic women on here, and all autistic people, multiple times. Funny what MN allow.... ableism is cool at MNHQ.

Anyway.... if you think anyone here will stop fighting for autistic children, you have no idea what the fuck you’re dealing with. I’m done with this. Stop engaging with these fucking hateful people. They’re the lowest of the low.

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 06/10/2018 19:26

Sorry typo. : I have explained clearly why I object to mermaids

CisMyArse · 06/10/2018 19:31

This

The thought of kids who don’t fit in being targeted by predators makes me angrier than I can coherently put into words.

We owe it to these children to protect them.

This is the post of the year for me. Hen you are awesome and my rebellion has just stepped up a gear.

Captainkirk, I find that abhorrent, especially as he had the asc himself.

Of course we need to compare stuff to the Nazis. How else will we learn from history

pennydrew · 06/10/2018 20:04

SpartacusAutisticusAHF fair enough... ableist ‘idiots’ then

because narcissists have to Win.

I was reprimanded severely by the labour party for a FB post back in Oct 2017 for saying this was gay and autistic eugenics, and, as a mother with autism and 2 autistic children, this is the hill I die on.

I also have a daughter who went partially boy then turned around and came out the other side. She is almost 18 now and recognises that the pressure to be trans is even greater, and if she was 14 now she would probably have thrown herself in 100%. Luckily she was out of school for much of the last 6 years, so the peer pressure was much reduced. Luckily her peer group now, all neurotypical, pretty much all think it is rubbish. My son is navigating it now, but having run into TRA at Tanis Fliks hearing and been surrounded by too much feminism, he hasnt much time for it and often disagrees with kids in his 'Stonewall Champion' school.

Spirituallove · 06/10/2018 20:23

The reason why I have surfaced on this thread is because it is National news. The Pink paper has already reported on this actual thread for an article. I wanted to get, and collate various things that people have posted to prove to the NAS that this is not merely about any nefarious activities from the charity, but because there is an element of certain people being uncomfortable with the trans community. And looking at some of the posts, they agree that there is some uncomfortable reading. It is also agreed that this thread is not just about autism, but about a congratulatory approach to the exclusion of transgender persons within the organisation. They agree that this is away from their policy, and without evidence that the CPS deems them a threat cannot conceivably keep a ban on an organisaion which has done nothing against any ethical code. If it had, it would no longer be a registered charity.

Are you listening to anything?

ThefusilliJerry · 06/10/2018 20:29

Reported you again, spiritual, and I hope you’ll be removed from the site this time.
Whatever is motivating you - and god only knows it would take a stronger stomach than I have to analyse that in any depth - it’s not concern for people with autism.
If you have a shred of decency you’ll take yourself away and not come back.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 06/10/2018 20:31

is it not possible for you to understand this has nothing to do with Trans or Pink news, NAS links to other autism charities on their site.

It's specifically mermaids that's at fault.
We do not have "CPS" in the UK, we are not America.
Dr Helen Webberley HAS violated the Care Standards Act, she HAS been convicted of this.

Do you understand this?

ThefusilliJerry · 06/10/2018 20:33

I have implored hq to do something about spiritual. This needs to remain a site where autistic people, their parents and carers feel safe and can speak freely. They must act now. This is truly beyond the pale.

Dr Helen Webberley HAS violated the Care Standards Act, she HAS been convicted of medical experiments on children.
Mermaids provided those children.

Do you get this?
Do you understand how for someone with Autism it's very close to events which are uncomfotable from our history, where those with too different autism were sent to be experimented on.

Or do you not, becuase you're from a protective group with no history, and you have no understanding at all of such things?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 06/10/2018 20:37

If you have no emmpathy or understanding you really should leave the thread.

You think we give a fuck what ‘Penis News’ writes? 😂😂

LizzieSiddal · 06/10/2018 20:47

Quoting Pink News is like quoting The Sun.

It has absolutely zero credibility.
