My friend just posted this on Facebook this morning. She isn't on MN so I have her permission to share. She would really like more people, especially people with ASD or who have children with ASD, to write to NAS thanking them for their willingness to listen and their agreement that Mermaids is not reputable.

This is really great news so please can we keep this bumped and shared. Thank you.

If posters on the SEN board would like to share that would also be great (if appropriate).

Dear XXXX ,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Gender and autism page on our website.

I’m writing to let you know that I’ve raised your concerns regarding Mermaids UK, one of the organisations we link to on our Gender and autism page, with a number of teams within the National Autistic Society. In light of the concerns raised in your message, and of other feedback that we have received, we have decided to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website, while we take the time to consult with relevant professionals and to reconsider which organisations we wish to place links to on our website.

As such, our Web Team are working to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website as soon as possible. Please do be aware, however, that, as we are currently in the process of updating our website to reflect our new branding and organisational identity, it may take a few days for this to be actioned.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and I hope that you are satisfied with the actions we are taking in light of the concerns that you have raised.

Kind regards,

National Autistic Society

I don't remember a ASD diagnosis in the court papers, I do remember the family being accused of fabricated induced illness.

DayMay · 07/10/2018 11:00

Hopefully someone will pull up the challenor threads with the court papers for clarity.

As an autistic child I became happier than before when I started drinking at age 12 and taking amphetamines and ecstacy at age 15/16. Some people become happier when they have breast implants and other plastic surgery. Doesnt make it right or good for them. Women feel better with breast implants as they are made to feel worthless without them. Some autistics feel better with drink and drugs as it helps us to fit in better. Doesnt make it right or good for us just because it makes us feel happier at that current time. Its called dissociation and denial and is actually very damaging in the long term

OldCrone · 07/10/2018 11:13

How do you know that human beings aren't born into the wrong sex? Decades worth of research tells us differently.

Please tell me you don't really believe this.

AdultHumanFemaleWoman · 07/10/2018 11:16

You can believe people are born in wrong bodies.

You can't force everyone to share your belief.

arranfan · 07/10/2018 11:16

I remember the ODD - maybe it was translated into autism at a later date?

Very complex family.

Kids' Company were exposed and crashed

Eventually Mermaids will be exposed and crash too
but sadly only after a huge number of children have their bodies and lives ruined

There will eventually be a tsunami of claims of medical malpractice and outright abuse

Doctors will be struck off
Politicans who supported the TRA / Mermaids agenda will hide, just like those who fell for the WMD hoax and supported the Iraq invasion
Charities who recommended them for vulnerable kids will have their reputations ruined and may crash with them.

I am not trying to force anyone to share my beliefs. I like diversity of opinions. I would never impose onto any other thread on here, and haven't. The reason why I am posting on here is because there has been pressure from some posters on here for a charity to remove a website for another registered charity, for their own personal beliefs.

arranfan · 07/10/2018 11:28

Kids' Company were exposed and crashed

After work from a lot of dedicated people, in their own time, who were risking their jobs in some cases. Politicians did not accept the evidence willingly.

You mean because of the unethical, illegal malpractice of a Doctor they promoted to people surely?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 11:31

Funny typo you made there.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 11:33

You are over looking the massive gigantic thing called "the reason" People want it removed.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 11:34

But you approve of the don't you, or else you wouldn't be avoiding the question.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 11:41

It's okay to admit it if that's how you feel spiritual, we here trying to prevent this getting worse are on the wrong side of history after all.

Or shockingly you can admit it's wrong to medically experiment on children, but that would mean admitting we have a good reason to not like mermaids.

I understand how conflicting it is when you realise the world isn't black and white.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 07/10/2018 11:41

DayMay

I would like to look at those papers again. That's also my recollection as well

Spirituallove · 07/10/2018 12:12

But while Dr Helen Webberley is still able to Practice, and with constant supervision, is Mermaids committing any criminal offence by linking her?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 12:14

Ethics... Ethics.... Ethics

You've still not answered the question, do you think it's wrong?

Ereshkigal · 07/10/2018 12:14

After work from a lot of dedicated people, in their own time, who were risking their jobs in some cases. Politicians did not accept the evidence willingly.

YY. Definite parallels here.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 12:16

She has been told not to practice for years. She was supposed to be allowed to treat transgender patients...

Mermaids provided children to her.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 12:17

Not supposed

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 12:18

It's morally wrong, it's ethically wrong.

People have a duty of care to protect children.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 12:19

Mermaids did not hold up their duty of care.

Spirituallove · 07/10/2018 12:21

Isn't there a decision going to be made early November? Surely it is better to wait until then before rushing in to condemn a hard working charity for linking an officially registered charity, because they happen to link a Doctor who is still working with the permission of the MPTC

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 12:23

She has been convicted, sentencing will happen in November.
She has been criminally convicted.
For a year before that she was banned from working with transgender patients.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 12:24

So for a year mermaid has been doing unethical things, for a year.
