Well as they had not calle me I called them.
Apparently 'there is nothing to add to Millie's email'. I said I was making a complaint of sex discrimination, they repeated, I tasked why they didn't see a problem with the email.
They eventually said I could email in a complaint.
Complaint email C and P
Dear Sirs,
I have just had a rather unsatisfactory call from one of your team, I believe the name was 'Steph' who told me she had nothing to add to Millie's email. As I'd been asked to provide a phone number it seemed a bit of an odd call.
I tried to make my complaint to her but apparently there was nothing she could add and no one was able to take my compliant.
ANyway here is my complaint.
On the 27th and 28th of September Ocado have discriminated against me in particular and women in general.
THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT THAT TWEET.
This is a complaint about how you handled the situation and that you discriminated against women ie you (the company) committed sex discrimination. I have screen shots of
:
- tweets by people with women's names being ignored whilst tweets from men were answered
- Trust pilot reviews by women being ignored whilst men's were answered.
- The discussion on mumsnet that shows others were getting the same treatment
- the e-mail sent from 'Millie'. This email adds insult to injury as in it you state:
"At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business activities that is completely free of discrimination of any sort. Our policies have always stated that everyone at Ocado is treated equally regardless of age, colour, disability, race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, political views or religious belief. This is as true of our employees as it is for anyone that engages with Ocado."
Under the Equality Act 'sex' is a protected characteristic. Another protected characteristic is 'gender identity', crucially the Act allows for situations where a person undergoing gender reassignment can be excluded from single sex places and services.
By stating 'gender' in this email you are saying two things, one is that women don't matter as sex discrimination is overwhelmingly against females. The other is that you seem to think gender IS important.
Gender is a 'social construct' it is the role a society forces onto a group whether they like it or not.
Finally I was not able to make this complaint by phone, I believe this is further sex discrimination. Your employee kept repeating she could not add to the email sent to women, but that email did not address any concerns with regard to sex discrimination. I know that this was pointed out to Ocado on twitter several times so you should not be unaware. It should not be up to your customers to tell you what the law is.
I can only conclude that you are continuing to discriminate against me because I am a woman, an adult human female.
I look forward to your reply (within 7 days) with your plan to rectify matters.
