Ocado boycott after support of Primesight actionhttp://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3376466-ocado-boycott-after-support-of-primesight-action

Following on from my previous thread that became full Smile

I'll be making my first Waitrose order today, or maybe going back to Tesco. Will definitely give Waitrose a go though and have placed a Christmas order already.

OP posts:

I'm telling them to stuff their vouchers (bit sad) and take my details off their database.

They never gave me my bottle of sparkling for joining them in the first place.

Sod em. They should employ someone with sense on their social media site.

happydappy2 · 01/10/2018 18:40

Long time Ocado user-called them today to discuss, the chap had definitely been briefed on the poster fiasco & sheepishly asked me to email in, so I have, last paragraph here. "As you are no doubt aware the government is holding a consultation regarding changes to the Gender Recognition Act and women have a vested interest in keeping the word woman to mean its current definition, adult human female. We feel it would be detrimental for the word woman to include biological males who ‘feel like a woman’ but have a penis. (85% of transwomen retain their male genitalia.) This is not being transphobic, it is protecting a word that defines us. Transwomen have a word that defines them also-transwomen.

Please would you clarify your companies situation regarding this poster-do you support it being taken down and view it as hate speech, or do you support women to be able to state the truth?"

Have Ocado NO IDEA how much money women spend with them, which would very easily be spent elsewhere.

DharmaLovesDrarry · 01/10/2018 19:01

I've just had the call. Very nice lady explaining that it was a mistake etc...

I asked if they were going to be putting out a statement publicly seeing as though the original tweet was public. That's not something they're doing apparently so I explained that I wouldn't be shopping with them again until they do.

Oh well, might try Asda.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 01/10/2018 19:05

Good quotes from Posie at the end of that article.

OvaHere · 01/10/2018 19:06

Amazing isn't it? One man or TW makes a complaint about something and they put out a public statement.

Huge amounts of women (Probably nearing four figures at this point) who make up the bulk of their customer base complain and withdraw custom yet they will not make a public statement of retraction.

Nicknamesalltaken · 01/10/2018 19:08

Also requested account deletion today.

Sleepyoto · 01/10/2018 19:09

Ocado Reserved slot cancelled here, been shopping with them 10+ years! I have booked a Waitrose delivery instead, managed to find almost everything I would usually get, plus some other Waitrose products not available through Ocado. I didn't mind the website/app - I have populated my favourites with all my usual purchases so repeat shopping should be easy enough.

Thank you to all those women brave enough to speak loudly about this.

MotherofPearl · 01/10/2018 19:13

I love this thread and this type of activism which - dare I say it - I think women excel at but whose importance is often forgotten. People tend to know about the work of Wilberforce and other male politicians in the anti-slavery movement, but hardly anyone knows about the powerful campaign in the 19th century by women to boycott slave-produced sugar, for example. Another case of women using their control of household spending to stage a political intervention.

MotherofPearl · 01/10/2018 19:14

Of course I realise that some posters on the thread and also boycotters of Ocado may well be men.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 01/10/2018 19:16

I don't think any man will take credit for this.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 01/10/2018 19:16

Anyone else got their review suspended from trustpilot? Hmm

DharmaLovesDrarry · 01/10/2018 19:18

I've had to tell my husband he's not to get the shopping from there now.

I rarely post on here or Twitter as I find myself peaktransing on an almost minutely basis Wink but thank you all for reminding me that sanity does exist. I feel truly demoralised by it all but it helps to know you're all here Flowers

GladAllOver · 01/10/2018 19:29

My DH has been following this and is at least as angry as me. "Who the fuck are these people who think a man with a prick can change in the same room as my daughter?"

Ocado's action was a public insult to ALL women. They have to apologise to ALL women. Personal apologies to some of their customers who have complained doesn't cut it.

rightreckoner · 01/10/2018 19:30

Interesting that Evening Standard covered this as they have been studiously avoiding this topic. I emailed the news editor to ask why they hadn’t covered the London Underground story where four men in dresses viciously attacked a man on his own. I’m saying men in dresses because that’s all you could see on the video and they weren’t holding up Gender Reassignment Certificates so I am saying what I saw which is that they were men. No mainstream media reported on it at all unless to report it as four women attacking a lone man.

ES loves an Underground crime story. Especially one with images. And yet total silence. Ditto the City of London BS from Edward Lord. Ditto Pips Bunce. These are classic ES stories about the City and London Transport and banking and yet - not a dickie bird (a phrase which now takes on a whole new meaning I realise Grin)

Anyway the editor didn’t even reply. So I’m surprised to see them cover this. Interesting

Juells · 01/10/2018 19:35

At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business that is completely free from discrimination, harassment and victimisation of any sort.

Unpicking that is very interesting. There's a little whiff of 'we have to look like we're sorry but we still think the poster was transphobic. A sneaky 'fuck you and the horse you rode in on'.

enrichedatthegulags · 01/10/2018 19:48

Yeah juells you're right. I didn't read it closely, but rereading it and yup, in a backhanded way they're definitely standing by their initial tweet

TheProvincialLady · 01/10/2018 20:04

I cancelled my smart pass and said why. Got the phone call today and the woman was very nice but...no. I won’t be changing my mind. I went to Aldi today and will be setting up an account with Waitrose.

MsMcWoodle · 01/10/2018 20:11

My lovely husband just wrote a stinking email to Ocado - I didn't even ask him to. I never use it but he does.
He also tried to post a review on Trustpilot but it wouldn't save???

Juells · 01/10/2018 20:12

I didn't read it closely, but rereading it and yup, in a backhanded way they're definitely standing by their initial tweet

That's what it looks like to me, glad I'm not the only one. It looks more and more as if the original two tweets were from someone pretty high up who's refusing to back down and leaving their PR department scrambling.

yipyap · 01/10/2018 20:12

Lurker here. I have moved our shopping away from Ocado. I'm sure I am not the only one who is not intending to contact them just to have some nice head prefect type call me up for a chat. I prefer to go around not through the opposition. Let's see how the numbers look for them over time, as more and more of us find alternatives.
Perhaps they are waiting to see how much money the wokes are good for.

Judder · 01/10/2018 20:21

I'm just about to cancel my Ocado membership too. It breaks my heart as I love their service and always get nice drivers. However, enough is enough. All the other shops and services need to see that we don't put up with this shit.

PerverseConverse · 01/10/2018 20:34

I've replied back to their crap email. I've asked again for them to explain why woman is transphobic hate speech.

OP posts:
Ineedacupofteadesperately · 01/10/2018 20:46

Oh FGS. I've had the non-apology AGAIN. I emailed to ask them to delete my account, I have had a holding email, a phone call to which I replied I wanted my account deleted and didn't want to speak to them and have now got another weasel worded non-apology (they're sorry if I've been 'offended' not sorry they've been misogynists). Apparently they also don't take 'no' for an answer from women.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 01/10/2018 22:33

So after multiple phone calls with Millie and whilst we are still waiting for our promised management call which was going to be within an hour, my DH rang them today and closed our account thanks to their misogyny. Our lifetime spend was a whopping £157,000 so we are hitting them where it hurts.

Tossers.
