Ocado boycott after support of Primesight actionhttp://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3376466-ocado-boycott-after-support-of-primesight-action

Following on from my previous thread that became full Smile

I'll be making my first Waitrose order today, or maybe going back to Tesco. Will definitely give Waitrose a go though and have placed a Christmas order already.

It's actually on the home page of the Standard website with a big picture of their logo.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 01/10/2018 13:24

This is the email I got today:

"Earlier this week one of our customer services representatives, in a response on Twitter, inadvertently entered into a debate that did not relate to Ocado, our marketing, or our values. This issue was not for Ocado to comment on and as a result the Tweet was withdrawn.

We apologise for any confusion or offence that this message may have caused. At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business that is completely free from discrimination, harassment and victimisation of any sort.

I apologise again for any confusion or offence caused. "

Still reads to me like we're the bad guys here.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 01/10/2018 13:25

Well you're all 'confused' then......

PenguindreamsofDraco · 01/10/2018 13:27

Oh I see from the ES article that the email was not a handcrafted one of a kind but just their agreed form of statement! Mean old mummies not wanting to be all inclusive.

Budgieinaberet · 01/10/2018 13:27

Yep the bad guys for being women

82% of their customers.

StealthNinjaMum · 01/10/2018 13:28

Yes they believe passionately that 'sex' is part of their inclusion policy especially after we pointed out last week that they had forgotten to include it!

PerverseConverse · 01/10/2018 13:31

Yay! My thread made the papers! I hope other papers pick this up now. My mum has peak trans'd but is a little embarrassed that I'm a bit of an activist Grin

It took 2 emails and 2 tweets, but finally got a response from a pleasant and friendly customer service rep called Lisa. She was quite apologetic. Said no current plans for a public statement by Ocado on the issue, but she would pass on my feedback.

As I’m not accustomed to being kept waiting this long (original complaint lodged last Wednesday), I’d already switched to Sainsbury’s and had my first delivery from them the other night - very happy so far. The driver took the time to stand and explain about how to get a good Christmas delivery slot - and their cooking apples are freaking MASSIVE.

Budgieinaberet · 01/10/2018 13:42

Peverse get your mum on here when she gets angry she'll be leafleting and stickering

PerverseConverse · 01/10/2018 14:00

Oooh I've had an email from Ocado saying the tweet did not reflect t their bales and how they are inclusive blah blah blah. They did not explain how woman is transphobic hate speech Hmm

Last week one of our customer services representatives, in a response on Twitter, inadvertently entered into a debate that did not relate to Ocado, our marketing, or our values. This issue was not for Ocado to comment on and as a result the Tweet was withdrawn.
I emailed Ocado last Thursday (27th) to request to delete my account because of their blatant disregard of freedom of speech and women's rights etc.

Finally got a stock response email today:

^We apologise for any confusion or offence that this message may have caused. At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business that is completely free from discrimination, harassment and victimisation of any sort.

I apologise again for any confusion or offence caused. I have now as requested closed your Ocado account.^

It was from a female name. Ocado clearly don't give a shit or want my custom!

PerverseConverse · 01/10/2018 14:07

My email too. Verbatim. Strange that!

Mine was slightly different but along the same lines

IckyPop · 01/10/2018 14:09

It's utter bullshit, isn't it? Very, very disappointing Ocado.

IckyPop · 01/10/2018 14:42

LaPufalina Just found that response was for an older account I had with them. The response for my live account is the same as yours.

I've replied asking them to explain in more detail how/why the error was made.

I'm not holding my breath.....

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 01/10/2018 14:58

I just called as I hadn't heard back from earlier call (wed) and follow up email on fri morning. Customer service guy answered and was very pleasant until I said what it was about then his tone changed, very buttoned up and slightly hostile. Said it was taking them time to call round everyone. I replied that I didn't need a call - just a public statement. He said that wasn't going to happen so I cancelled smart pass and weekly reserved delivery. As soon as he knew what it was about he seemed desperate to get me off the phone as soon as possible.

I really can't believe they are handling like this. Are we missing something here that explains their seemingly nuts response???

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 01/10/2018 15:04

They are scared of TRA's
They didn't realise that there are more women (and even a whole bunch transwomen / transmen with sense) than TRA's because their business is based inside a bubble and operated from the internet.

Now they have realised that maybe the TRA's are just a small but very vocal group who claim to have a lot of power by whinging and Ocado don't know what to do.

The solution they've come up with is to not say anything and phone round to keep public knowledge to a minimum but try and get back the customers who have left.

RepealtheGRA · 01/10/2018 15:46

I too don’t think they will crack. However I do think ‘doing an Ocado’ will take over from ‘doing a ratner’. I also think companies will realise that their best course of action is to stay out of it like Birdseye, so perhaps the next billboard will stay up?

Fishywishyhead · 01/10/2018 15:57

I got the same stock reply. I’d have forgiven them the original transgression if they’d managed to respond better. This seems to be blaming woman for their response rather than themselves for their point scoring.

OrchidInTheSun · 01/10/2018 17:38

Oh dear Ocado.

I sent an email asking for my details to be removed from their database on Wednesday. On Thursday Millie left me a voicemail but didn't call back as promised.

Today I have received not one but two emails from Ocado! It appears they have not removed my details as requested after all. Isn't this in breach of some kind of code?

And no, £45 off my next 4 shops will not induce me to come back to you.

Sorry - no idea why that posted twice!

starlingsintheslipstream · 01/10/2018 17:49

I've just had a similar email but to be fair I didn't contact them asking them to remove my details until the weekend. I can only think they must have a lot of slots to fill all of a sudden...

StealthNinjaMum · 01/10/2018 17:53

I just had an email from them trying to sell me Phase Eight clothes for a 20% discount. I wonder if Phase Eight know what a woman is?

I haven't actually cancelled my account with Ocado, curious if I'll ever get an apology.

Trousered · 01/10/2018 18:01

How interesting, we get gendered away as mothers in the Standard when we are being patronised about shopping choices, but mother can't be used if there a political inclusion point to score...
