Posie Parker will be on This Morning tomorrow.

Not sure which TRA/AWA will be provided for her to chew up and spit out though.

Posie has done a terrific job in bringing this topic to a much wider audience. She isn’t going to win every argument or convince everyone but she doing a great job on shining a light on issues that have been hidden from too many people.

Floisme · 28/09/2018 16:17

I’m not convinced about media training either. Posie reminds me a lot of Julie Burchill - she says the things a lot of us still tiptoe around and she doesn’t care whether people think she’s nice.

She’s never going to chime with everyone but I think it’s horses for courses. Sometimes we need a Dr Nic and sometimes we need someone who will just say straight out that they don’t think transwomen are women. (That’s out there now and there’s nothing the TRA lobby can do to tow it back.)

She also keeps her cool under pressure.

RepealtheGRA · 28/09/2018 16:18

Posie’s followers on Facebook just keep going up

Yes Lang!! Giving no fucks!!!!!

I am quite a giving no fucks person in RL but sometimes less so on here.

FloraHiggins · 28/09/2018 16:20

There are still GC comments on Facebook despite the absolutely hatchet job they tried to do on Posie and despite the fact they are deleting GC comments.

Not on facebook but is there any value to screenshotting the GC comments in case they are all deleted? I wonder on what grounds they're being removed

Dragon3 · 28/09/2018 16:21

I'm not sure that my blood pressure would take watching this. But thank you Posie. And well done.

seafret · 28/09/2018 16:22

LittleMissedTheSunshine I was just clarifying my own position.

LangCleg · 28/09/2018 16:22

She’s never going to chime with everyone but I think it’s horses for courses. Sometimes we need a Dr Nic and sometimes we need someone who will just say straight out that they don’t think transwomen are women.

Exactly.

LangCleg · 28/09/2018 16:24

Does it matter whether people come away thinking Posie is my shero or I can't stand that bloody woman but she's right about this?

No. It doesn't.

seafret · 28/09/2018 16:24

Do watch it Dragon it is ok. Not an assassination. Just the predictable idiocy I think.

WomanLifeIsGoodish · 28/09/2018 16:28

lang ... That anyone could think India - the person who threw a narc rage and got in the face of an eighty-year-old woman for not being sufficiently submissive and affirmative - could possibly belong in a refuge for women escaping male abuse is quite beyond me.

That was my first exposure to IW. Not the scene with Amanda, I didn’t see that, but I think later when India cornered the women in the kitchen.

I know Ann Widdicombe isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I saw a scared woman with her head bowed whilst she was yelled at in an aggressive manner by a very tall, angry individual. It upsets me even now remembering.

Badstyley · 28/09/2018 16:29

I thought Posie did brilliantly. The amount of cool headed clarity and patience it must have taken to deal with that barrage I can’t imagine. India just came across as pathetic. I know I’m biased but they just looked ridiculous. Posie is great, and love her or hate her, she gets chins wagging. I come from a pretty lowbrow working class background, and her no bullshit couldn’t give a fuck attitude is exactly what speaks to people like us. She doesn’t mince her words and she doesn’t fuck about, and she probably reaches audiences where other more academic people struggle.

Honestly I don’t think it can be overestimated how difficult that must’ve been today for her. It’s all well and good saying she should have said this and she should have said that, but sitting on that sofa on live television with those three spouting bollocks and trying to discredit her must’ve been really tough. Don’t try to polish her, her hard edges are what make her so effective, and so successful.Other people can be nice and consiliatory, and she’ll open doors for them, but Posie is Posie, and she does Posie, and she does it brilliantly. Three seasoned media savvy people colluded to try to make her look stupid today, and they failed miserably.

Juells · 28/09/2018 16:30

I think that there are debatable points to be made within the gender critical argument, but hanging your hat on the “dictionary definition of woman” is a weak tag line. To me it makes the “movement” a bit of a joke every time I see it.

Yeah, we're all laughing. Did you not get the point that the poster was put up so that MEN would object to it? And they did. And Dr H said women were appropriating the word. All that passed you by?

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 28/09/2018 16:36

My twitter notifications have gone bloody crazy on the back of this!!

Posie was fabulous. It was clearly an attempted assassination being triple-teamed by the ever so woke, but she kept her cool and made enough points clearly for people to get it.

Ereshkigal · 28/09/2018 16:37

but hanging your hat on the “dictionary definition of woman”

It's not just a dictionary definition though is it? I think it's people who try to pretend it means anyone who says they are a woman and that most people actually believe this that look like the joke.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 28/09/2018 16:39

I think she did great. To the point and no fake "niceness".
We don't have to be nice, we are still right.
Transwomen and men , I think, do need their own refuges and rape centres. Whoever said rape of men was rare-that's a bit dismissive actually. Reported rape of men is rare, but it happens more than you'd think, especially in prison and to male prostitutes (who are often heartbreakingly young).
So, yes, men need to set up refuges just like women did (on shoestrings with bugger all funding!)
Anyway, I don't want Posie to change. She does remind me a bit of Julie Burchill and as such she will become notorious which is no bad thing.
We need more like her.

Juells · 28/09/2018 16:40

India Willoughby hits back at woman who claims 'transgender women are not real women'

www.itv.com/thismorning/hot-topics/transgender-women-are-not-real-women

They absolutely know that 99% of the public believe exactly the same thing. But determined to make us submit.

Elephantinacravat · 28/09/2018 16:43

On what?

Datun · 28/09/2018 16:44

t, but hanging your hat on the “dictionary definition of woman” is a weak tag line.

Oh dear lord. What other definition IS there?

How about my definition then.

A woman is not a male rapist, neither is it a mad who yells at old women on the telly, neither is it a man who head-butts bouncers, neither is it a man who gets turned on by wearing women's frocks, neither is it a man who demands women's capitulation to his definition of the word woman.

I mean, we could be here all day.

So instead of pretending that language is something that you can just change arbitrarily, depending on your agenda, let's just stick to the actual definition of words, shall we?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 28/09/2018 16:45

sorry wrong thread.Blush

affectionincoldclimate · 28/09/2018 16:46

Interesting that lot of comments in This Morning's Facebook page are about how ladylike India was in comparison to Posie and how that's a good thing. Basically, India conforms to gender stereotype of a nice woman and Posie doesn't. So India is a therefore a woman. Posie is a harridan who transgresses rules of soft femininity mandated by men for women as an acceptable way of being. The absurdity of it makes my head hurt but it's really just misogyny in another guise.

DoctorFoster · 28/09/2018 16:52

That ‘intimate search’ question - ‘but if he believes he’s a woman’. WTH Eamonn?!

Kellie-Jay: If I was arrested today by a police officer who still had a penis but said he’s a woman he’s allowed to intimately search me. Now the reason he is allowed to intimately search me is because a transgender police officer who said he was a woman took the police to court to have that right because he said it was discriminatory (not to be able to)

Eamonn: But if he believes he is a woman. You’re saying that doesn’t make him a woman?

Kellie-Jay -: That’s saying I have to indulge in that belief also and I don’t.

Ruth: But when you’re sitting with someone like India...

affection -

there was a twitter post as well saying that women who don't agree that transwomen are transowmen and not women / female are BY DEFINITION not women themselves [grin

As usual >> rule of misogyny >> women are whatever men say they are. "Womanhood" is policed by men and women who do not comply / play the role (and it is a role) are not "real women". This is the excuse for much of the awful treatment by male establishment of women who are a different colour / race, who make money in certain ways (prostitutes), who have mental health problems, who are lesbian, who are poor, and along until even "aren't good looking enough" and "disagree with me" get put in the "not women" bucket and therefore you can do what you like to them. From the horrors visited on women across the globe and across time to the very basic removal of rights from women who do not capitulate into "self defining" into a narrow view of "womanhood".

Whole thing is in your face misogyny. All comes from the same place.
