Inspired by Linda Bellos hanky and it being referred to as causing offence by a court adversary I popped into Museum of London on my way to a meeting to purchase some pins and a suffrage bag.
Their 'votes for women' pins were disappointing as they look more navy than purple.

Wearing a suffrage pin strikes me as a perfect way of signalling the fight is not over and 100 years from getting the vote it is not sufficiently political that employers and colleagues can complain (although I thought that about my women definition bag). It is a way of starting the conversation with anyone commenting on it.

So does anyone know where I can buy a suffrage colours scarf & pin?

The Houses of Parliament outside Westminster Station has pins, scarves and pens.

I'm 1000% behind this idea. As the original badges would have been home made this might be a good one for crafty types to knock together themselves. There used to be a rad fem facebook page full of knitted vulvas iirc...

Thank you madvixen

I think I might get some wool in appropriate colours and knit myself a winter scarf. I'm not as crafty as the awesome Leeds spinners but they are inspiring

I'll dig it out and take a pic later, but I was given one of those ribbon loops last year when my all-women choir sang for International Women's Day - you know, like the breast cancer ones - made of the three colours and a safety pin. Dead easy to put together and you could knock up a dozen for a gathering very quickly. I'll probably have it on on Friday if anyone's coming to the Manchester meeting.

For the lazy less crafty, there are some here:

I've ordered some ribbon off eBay. They have pins too. I have no idea on the quality or colour accuracy.

gamerchick · 26/09/2018 17:31

eBay do the pins for quite cheap I think.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/09/2018 17:44

Right, well, that's decided me. OP, Museum in Docklands had some decent pins that didn't look navy to me.

Funny you should say that op, I was thinking the exact same thing. I am going to wear suffrage colours somewhere about my person all the time till this is won.

What happened with Linda Bellos this morning has given it a powerful resonance beyond the trans issue and concerning the modern day silencing of women when we speak all our truths. The Guardian piece I read yesterday about women who report rape having all their personal data and browsing history gone through is another example.

Mil got me a sparkly Suffrage brooch recently from Museum Selection. She's going to be pleasantly surprised when she hears how much use I am getting out of it.

Suffrage bling

I will also be knitting socks.

FloralBunting · 26/09/2018 17:56

Yes. I think should all continue to 'appropriate' everything that is obviously ours and pisses the AWAs off. The word woman, the suffrage colours, the whole damned lot.

Sorry boys, but no, we won't go away, and we won't share.

Redbubble has an extensive range of Suffragette items - I'm just trying to pick out leggings and a bag.

seafret · 26/09/2018 18:08

Yes 100% behind this.

I think Fairplay for Women used the colours before changing to the red and black (and stupidly I didn't get it) Maybe a good idea for FPFW to go back the them again?

jenthelibrarian · 26/09/2018 18:16

"Purple symbolised dignity, white purity, and green hope."
OK then....I think I might stick with the purple and green.

BeenHereAWhileNow · 26/09/2018 18:17

Ooooo I like the bling at museum selections

I think the current Fairplay stuff looks really good, like they mean business.

MipMipMip · 26/09/2018 18:23

You can get site a lot from Etsy. But please don't get the prision medals - they were given for a specific purpose and as you haven't been in prision for suffragists you don't quality. It's insulting in the same way as people wearing war medals they haven't earned.
