Using Suffrage Colours symbol for our activism

Inspired by Linda Bellos hanky and it being referred to as causing offence by a court adversary I popped into Museum of London on my way to a meeting to purchase some pins and a suffrage bag.
Their 'votes for women' pins were disappointing as they look more navy than purple.

Wearing a suffrage pin strikes me as a perfect way of signalling the fight is not over and 100 years from getting the vote it is not sufficiently political that employers and colleagues can complain (although I thought that about my women definition bag). It is a way of starting the conversation with anyone commenting on it.

So does anyone know where I can buy a suffrage colours scarf & pin?

Boyond those were the colours I was looking at but wasn't sure if the green was quite right.
Style craft have lots of greens and I couldn't decide.
Which wool shades have others gone for? Or can recommend? Preferably style craft special dk.
There's a statue of a suffragette in my nearest city. Might make her a scarf.

I was going back and for between different images and decided it was close enough as there were a few variations even in the old images I was looking at. I also have this sparkly white...

Ooh love that sparkly white.
Think I will go for the same, I ended up over thinking it massively and gave up in the end.
What are you making?
I'm doing a scarf, was just going to a thick stripe in each colour but I might do 5 with the white in the middle and smaller purple ones with green on the outside.
Green will look better next to my face than purple. Over thinking again..

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 01/10/2018 14:04

I was just drawing it for you - just a basic-ish scarf (need to remind myself how to purl before I do anything!) thinking sort of a squarey pattern - don't really know how to describe it Grin

Yes that looks nice, I'm doing my stripes long ways.
Was thinking to get some ribbon to make the tassel bits for the ends. Will decide when it's finished.
I crochet, stripes are about the limit of my skills.

Ooh I've just spotted Fearlessly Feminist kids tshirts on RedBubble. Think I'll get them for my boys....

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/10/2018 17:26

I got some really vivid green and purple aran from new Lanark mill just now.
Am going to do cabled ribs lengthways and maybe white in the fringe.
So excited!

Loving the scarf. How many stiches did you / will you cast on?

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 01/10/2018 18:32

50 on 5mm needles. Gonna make a little start this evening (as I only have the white atm)

Theinconstantgardener · 01/10/2018 18:59

There we go - started. Hope my new wool comes tomorrow!

First thing STBXH asked when he saw me knitting was if I was copying Jane Fae... Grin

I’m going to crochet some flowers in the colours. I actually think it could be easy to crochet rosettes too.

concretesieve · 03/10/2018 10:43

Lovely thread - I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished items Flowers

Beyond that's a fantastic start.

I don't knit, crochet or sew, sadly, but have ordered the sparkly brooch and raided charity shops for the colours

I'm not a natural, hands - and arthritis in my hands isn't exactly helpful Grin apparently knitting is supposed to help it, but I've not noticed any positives yet!!

FullFatCoke · 03/10/2018 22:25

I'm going to have a go at a scarf I think !

Thethiniceofanewday · 03/10/2018 22:49

If anyone would like to knit a womb this pattern is brilliant

I have started a scarf, Hobbycraft have WI yarn in the colours

VeryVerySilly · 04/10/2018 11:59

Yeah one way to help the cause of women is get knitting and browsing etsy all day for pretty things to put on your clothes to make you feel like you are doing anything comparable to what women did in the suffragette movement. Kudos truly. If you want a place to start actually doing something helpful for women id recommend protesting for women's education in the middle East or their right to do anything really. Then put on the pin because you are actually risking something then, like your suffragette ancestors proudly did.
