Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Woe betide any self ID bearded women who want to share their shower. Swiftest ever recoversion back to using a male space, I reckon

Bolloxio · 28/09/2018 02:06

I spend over £250 a week with them.

Bloody hell..what on earth do you buy?! I am always interested in other peoples shopping. I spend about 60 quid a week for 2 adults and 3 kids.

I don't use ocado, they don't deliver to my area, so I can't boycott really, but the thought is there!

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 28/09/2018 03:35

I used to teach crisis management. The first rule is to admit your mistake, right upfront. The second is to make an apology and the third is tell your stakeholders how you’re going to fix things going forward.

This is a fascinating case study of how-not-to manage a crisis. And if the company is so poorly placed to manage a crisis triggered by an aberrant tweet, you’d have to wonder what capacity they have to cope with anything bigger.

The piss poor response here suggests to me a real lack of management capacity and an over-confident and arrogant executive.

Organisational resilience is a thing Ocado - learn it; live it.

KLAXON

Sorry just needed to get your attention.

I have had a response from the Equality Advisory Support Service. I'll post it below.

Basically they are looking for evidence of discrimination. I have screen prints of trust pilot and twitter, if anyone has other evidence and would be willing to pass it on please DM me.

@MNHQ hope this doesn't breach any rules and, as it is public, I assume it's OK to use this thread.

OK email.

The EASS can provide you with advice and guidance on the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998; however, if you require a legal opinion on the merits of your case, you would need to consult a lawyer. For more information, please see our legal disclaimer.
To my understanding, you have complained to Ocado because of their support of Dr Andrew Harrop, and their unwillingness to engage with women. You would like for them to apologise for their tweet implying that women are a hate group and not adult females.
You have tried contacting them by e-mail, twitter, online contact and reviews on trust pilot, but they have failed to engage.
On the other hand, they are responding to messages signed with men’s names.
There may be an equality element involved, but more information is needed with regard to the specifics of the incident.
You have stated that they are replying to individuals named Jamie, Arun and Steve; have you contacted them using one of the aforementioned names? If not, would you be able to clarify the methods through which the intelligence was gained?
Are you trying to establish contact to discuss your complaint? Are they refusing to take complaints from women, but not men? Have they acknowledged the receipt of your complaint (automated generic message), or are they are simply ignoring it?
Answering the questions above, may enable us to advise you further on the subject.
I look forward to your response.

seafret · 28/09/2018 06:42

I have had no reply to either of my emails. I also mentioned sex being a protected characteristic in my first email.

But I only spent an average of about £60 a week about twice a month though (as they were not that great but have a wider range than others here) so I suppose they don't care about me as a woman or a valuable customer.

Their packing is so awful that items often arrived broken or cardboard soaked through by the condensation from milk bottles eg into boxes of sanitary products. Grr.

They have just tried to tempt me with a pass offer but they can fuck right off.

glassandahalf · 28/09/2018 06:47

Hey Olennas, I was just scrolling through the Trustpilot reviews and came to Jeremy's one (about the paper-thin ham). Guess what? He's had a reply! Amidst a sea of reviews from us mere adult human females, his is the only recent one to have had a response from Ocado. Grrrrr.

Hi Jeremy. We're sorry to hear about your experience, we'd like to feedback about this to the relevant teams as this is very disappointing to hear. Please, could you call us on 0345 656 123, email us at ocado@ocado or visit our Live Chat Team on the website.'

sashh · 28/09/2018 07:02

Oh nice glass I'm off to get more screen shots

PerverseConverse · 28/09/2018 07:04

We obviously need to write reviews under male names 🙄

It sounds like, in you compliant to the EASS, you will need to be very clear who said/did what. Their tweet was in support of Primesight's tweet and actions.
Good luck - what a bunch of numpties Ocado seem to be!

Meet0nTheIedge · 28/09/2018 07:07

I had a reply overnight along the lines of "sorry you wish to cancel your Smart Pass, I have done this for you, please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with". No acknowledgement of my actual criticism.

JamAtkins · 28/09/2018 07:19

They have responded to me on Trustpilot with my womanly name

I didn't complain about the misogyny because while that is obviously a MASSIVE deal, the thing that pissed me of the most was their lack of response to women. They ignored me on twitter, hung up on 2 live chats and thus far haven't answered my email. They wouldn't even give me a link to their values (I had seen them on the website but couldn't marry it up with the 'align with our values tweet)

I also didn't want someone looking at reviews to skim through and think of a whole chunk of the reviews as a single issue problem that doesn't concern them and ignore it.

Hence, I just wrote in my review that the customer service is awful (it is) and they were ignoring my communications (they are). Their response suggests I email or live chat them, which I will do once I've found my eyeballs which have rolled across the floor.

a lot of people will be put off more by poor customer services and paper thin ham than misogyny.

Gentlygently · 28/09/2018 07:30

I am not on Twitter, but has someone tweeted the email they are sending, asking them to admit publicly they should not have got involved? And pointing out sex is a protected characteristic?

gilchrist168 · 28/09/2018 07:55

Hmm
Jeremy Lunn got a reply on Trustpilot.
He posted 10 hours ago.

I did not get a reply and also posted 10 hours ago.
I'm clearly a woman in name on Trustpilot.

Either, they are very worried about their thin ham and Jeremy's custom,
or, they don't like a Mrs suggesting that they are on glue and referring to their misogyny.

( I usually use another name on MN )

tinabloodysparkle · 28/09/2018 08:08

I spotted the glue comment - only a mumsnetter! Grin

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/09/2018 08:10

I see their 1 star rating has gone from 20 to 21%.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/09/2018 08:13

And their score was 5.6 yesterday and it's now 5.3.

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 28/09/2018 08:18

I'm thinking maybe the Ocado apps might also need some reviewing...

Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action
MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 28/09/2018 08:19

Oops, sorry - didn't mean to post the photo, but that was just an example of a manly-names reviewer who has also not been replied to.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/09/2018 08:21

They've only tried to general food and delivery issues. Just the 'serious stuff'.

MnerXX · 28/09/2018 08:25

This thread is amazing. I wish I shopped at Ocado so I could cancel!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/09/2018 08:28

Im assuming there is a counter 'support our dusters at Ocado!' campaign going too.

sashh · 28/09/2018 08:59

My latest email

Thank you for your response.

I would like to make three points.

On trust pilot you are ignoring many many comments from women but in between you are answering comments from people with traditionally male names, Tim, Arun, Jeremy. So again why are you ignoring women?

Point two, are you still doing business with Primesite? And have you expressed to them that their values are at odds with yours?

Thirdly, oh WOW are you making huge mistakes. Your email lists most of the 'protected characteristics' as identified by the Equality Act, but for some reason you have left out the characteristic 'sex'

So what can you do to make things better?

  1. issue a public statement, the original tweet was public so your response should also be.

  2. Actually answer women and their comments on twitter, mumsnet, trust pilot etc.

  3. Make a substantial donation to a charity that supports women eg Refuge.

  4. instruct Primesite to reinstate the poster defining the word 'woman'

  5. After (4) change your advertising to a different company.

I look forward to your reply

Oh and I have replied to EASS including screenshots from here, twitter, trust adviser and my emails.

If anyone else wants to do a report it's a really simple form.

gilchrist168 · 28/09/2018 09:17

Good work sash and everyone Smile

I have a big order on the way, from a willing alternative.
I also appear to have saved some money on our usual shop.

(Waves sad farewell to kindly Ocado delivery staff)

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/09/2018 09:21

What about primesight?
