Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

I know they won't go public. I also know I won't ever shop with them again unless they do.
The tweets werr public, a genuine apology to adult, human females would have to be too. They can't just pat me on the head and ask me to be a good little girl again.

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 27/09/2018 16:07

Hmm. Hopefully, they get Android up and running... Personal device is Android... Work phone is Apple... Do I allow the conflict between work and conscience...

CallingDannyBoy · 27/09/2018 16:07

I think it’s good and I’ll accept the call but I’ll ask for a written response as well. I understand a written response would be better but they won’t make this mistake again.

It’s a warning shot across their bow and other retailers and organisations to remember who has the purchasing power and how many women are out there and pissed off. I think it’s been a ‘good’ week as far as getting our view across. Personally i’m now taking action - contacted Ocado, completed the GRC consultation and peaked my parents (Dad got it straight away); next up girl guides. I expect there will be setbacks but the message is out there - don’t push us any further and women together are a force to be reckoned with. Let’s keep this momentum going.

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 16:10

I finally got a response from customer services in response to my email request for all information held on me and a complaint about their CEO being a raging misogynist.

The response was "A member of the senior management team have received your email and will be responding to your queries surrounding this concern shortly."

I emailed back to say that I would be sharing their responses with other posters on Mumsnet.

Worked out that I'm likely to save quite a bit of money now I'm swapping Ocado for Sainsbury's..so I've bought myself a few things from the shop linked to previously in the thread (which I didn't know about before)

Very gratifying..

thiskitten · 27/09/2018 16:17

The original tweets weren't just saying they didn't like the billboard. If you look at them they heavily implied that they would have ended their relationship with primesight had they not removed the banner. That's quite an extreme step for a junior member of staff to commit to.
Surely they need at least consider ending their relationship with primesight for their anti-women stance?

wiccamum · 27/09/2018 16:18

The number that called me back yesterday was an 0345 number, a pp wanted to know.
I haven’t had a call today, I’m feeling rather left out. Might have to send another email...

I also made another donation to SFW in their name, equal to the “saving” I made on my last shop, and thanked them for their support of the campaign

ImPreCis · 27/09/2018 16:18

Apologising, by phone, for the tweets going out is just wrong. So what they are actually saying is ‘We would have made the same decision and had the same thoughts, but we wish we’d kept them quiet and not put them on twitter.
Weasley words, spin doctored to death.

wiccamum · 27/09/2018 16:21

Exactly ImPreCis, they aren’t apologising for getting it so bloody wrong, they’re apologising for getting caught. Wankers

dolorsit · 27/09/2018 16:28

Can I suggest that those if you who get a call correct them on gender if they list it.

Artesia · 27/09/2018 16:39

I got a proper reply!! It’s long, but says absolutely nothing if any significance. They are obviously trying to back away gracefully without upsetting anyone...

“Many thanks for your email, I absolutely appreciate this is a very emotive subject and so I wanted to contact you personally with regards to this.

Earlier this week one of our customer services representatives, in a response on Twitter, inadvertently entered into a debate that did not relate to Ocado, our marketing, or our values. This issue was not for Ocado to comment on and as a result the Tweet has been withdrawn.

We apologise for any confusion or offence that this message may have caused. At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business activities that is completely free of discrimination of any sort. Our policies have always stated that everyone at Ocado is treated equally regardless of age, colour, disability, race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, political views or religious belief. This is as true of our employees as it is for anyone that engages with Ocado.

I hope this clarifies Ocado’s position in relation to the issues raised by this exchange, and apologise again for any confusion or offence caused.

Kind regards,

Millie Brookman
Ocado Management Team”

treated equally regardless of age, colour, disability, race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, political views or religious belief

they missed sex of the list............

RepealtheGRA · 27/09/2018 16:42

Why do Ocado not know what the protected characteristics are under the Equalities Act? That alone is enough to stop me shopping with them.

TrumpsToddlerTantrums · 27/09/2018 16:45

I asked them to repeat the list of protected characteristics and said to them that it was biological sex and gender reassignment that are protected, but they are just following a script. A script that is wrong. I wonder who helped them write it?

BrisaOtonal · 27/09/2018 16:46

Earlier this week one of our customer services representatives, in a response on Twitter, inadvertently entered into a debate that did not relate to Ocado, our marketing, or our values.

I'm confused. Didn't they originally say on twitter that they wouldn't use the billboard company and then go back on that once they had removed the ad? The twitter comments came as a result of this, they were not someones opinion. It wasn't a rogue customer service person.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 16:54

Someone without any authority was driving their twitter and took it upon themselves to make a decision that would be worth £££ in advertising space? OK - I don't swallow that!

redshoeblueshoe · 27/09/2018 17:11

Me neither Fekko

redshoeblueshoe · 27/09/2018 17:16

I think they are absolutely showing their true colours.

I emailed back to say that I would be sharing their responses with other posters on Mumsnet.

LOL! Grin

Can't believe they left sex as a protected charcterstic out of that email. Their PR person needs 'retraining' Ho ho!

Also agree that there is no way that it was some customer care rep who tweeted that tweet out: the language conveyed authority.

Molokonono · 27/09/2018 17:46

I've emailed again and got the 24 hours response.

I responded with the above, and asked if they surely mean the response they gave above.

I asked if I was bottom of their list and told them they sure know how to make an adult human female feel special.

I'll point out next time that they have the categories of the Equality Act wrong.

TrumpsToddlerTantrums · 27/09/2018 17:51

Apparently I saved the best part of £10 in my last (ever) Ocado shop. I've just rounded it up and donated to:

I e-mailed this morning and told them to cancel my delivery pass and wanted it to be known why. Bog standard auto response so far.
