Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Green, I don't agree that every company who advertises with Primesight needs a boycott - you'd have to boycott everything!

Only those who have expressed support with them removing the Adult Female banner like Ocado did.

Ocadodumped · 27/09/2018 15:02

Can I ask those who've had a call what number (or area code) Ocado are calling from. I think I'd like to pick up but at the moment am getting loads of cold calls so wish to spare myself from those.

NonaGrey · 27/09/2018 15:02

I don't agree that speaking to people personally - and risking verbal abuse - is a cowardly way out.

The point Tanith is that it’s verbal only. It’s not searchable or shareable.

Fair enough to call everyone back but if they are avoiding a public statement it’s because they are afraid of a backlash from TRAs. So it would appear to be a rather craven response.

Pootlebug · 27/09/2018 15:03

"I've just had a telephone call, too. A management team lady apologising very sincerely for any offence caused and explaining that the tweets should not have been posted and have been removed as a result."

But that's a bit shit. They have removed the public record of their mysogynist attitude but not apologised publicly. Looks way more like damage limitation than genuine regret to me

TrumpsToddlerTantrums · 27/09/2018 15:03

I've just had the phone call! As above, tweet shouldn't have been made, not a topic Ocado should comment on and went on to list gender and then sexual reassignment as protected characteristicsConfused. I asked if a public statement was going to be made. She said at the moment it was her and a few colleagues calling complainants. I said I would reconsider my position once I had read a public apology.

Personally, I'm quite excited at the prospect of having to shop locally. Ocado made shopping too easy! We have a great local greengrocer and several butchers. Not to mention a fabulous off licence that stocks loads of regional produce.

Maybe Mr Harrop will go down in history as revitalising the High Street as well Grin

thiskitten · 27/09/2018 15:04

Yeah calling people individually is total bullshit.
Might seem like they are being nice and taking the time to be "personal" but it's purely so they can say one thing publicly (women are something other than adult human females) and another to their largely adult human female customer base.
It's a win win for them. It appears to the outside that they can say what they want about women and silly women will still hand over £100 per week.
If they called me (they'd better not as I asked them to remove my data) I'd explain the above and tell them to make a public company statement detailing their stance

Procrastinator1 · 27/09/2018 15:04

Amazing isn't it. One tweet from Harrop (male) got a 48 sheet billboard ad taken down. Hundreds if not thousands of tweets from women who are consumers to Primesight and Ocado, and now more of Primesight's clients, nothing, not even one tweet.

JamAtkins · 27/09/2018 15:10

I don't agree that every company who advertises with Primesight needs a boycott - you'd have to boycott everything!

I agree. Not only would you have to boycott a ton of stuff (and be constantly researching) but I feel its outwith the remit of grocers to police the other clients of whoever does their billboards. The relationship is too tenuous. I guess it's the tenuousness (?) of the relationship that also means Ocado shouldn't have let in with their size nines to scrabble for virtue crumbs.

Have Primesight put their heads up yet?

Nope, they even still have the tweet up.

Haha that sounds like a Fuck You to women, doesn't it?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/09/2018 15:10

Nope

No good for me
I cancelled my delivery that would have come today
Currently setting up first waitrose order

Public apology is required as for everyone who bothers to complain, plenty more will not, and they will not receive this call

Also apology for offence caused is a non apology everyone knows that I'm surprised companies still use it.

plus they care about gender equality not sex so they still don't thikn that woman is anythign more than whatever a man says it is

Ocadodumped · 27/09/2018 15:20

Interesting they have not sent emails. Almost as if they don't want their name linked with anything in black and white.

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 27/09/2018 15:21

My card on my smartpass has expired anyway, so it shouldn't be able to renew, but will be emailing to be sure.

In the meantime, I cannot find a Waitrose app except the magazine and quick check - is there one?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/09/2018 15:26

Just done waitrose shop, coming sat

Site is MUCH better to navigate than when I last tried 10 years ago or so :D

YY to is there an app?

SolidarityGdansk · 27/09/2018 15:28

I have just had a phone call.

As suspected it was just a junior person making an unauthorised tweet.

I Don’t think that they plan on making a public statement. And I told the caller that it would be good to see Ocado standing by its customer base.

I am not sure yet whether I will keep next weeks order or not. Let’s see if they follow up with a public statement.

JamAtkins · 27/09/2018 15:29

I've cancelled. No questions or saying I'm valued. Been with them yonks and probably spend 120-150 a week including pet stuff. Feel slightly insulted that they didn't even pretend to sound arsed

Xiaoxiong · 27/09/2018 15:32

Once upon I had the same problem at first - the home delivery app is "Waitrose and Partners" not "Waitrose Food" for some reason Hmm

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/09/2018 15:38

Is it only iOS I wonder? Can't see it on play store

Coldallthetime · 27/09/2018 15:43

@nothingonthetellyagain Agreed. It has to be written down and public to be meaningful, just as their tweets were.

Attempting to silence women by getting no doubt poorly paid customer service handlers to call them really shouldn't cut it.

Even better, Ocado should boycott Primesight until they reverse their stance, that would be proactive and a meaningful defence of us adult, human females.

NotZenEnough · 27/09/2018 15:44

I've just had a phone call which was very nice, but largely irrelevant. Nice that 'woke bros' on their twitter feed will be kept in line a bit better in future. This narrative will not pass unchallenged
I said I'd like to see a written statement which apparently they are going to discuss at a higher level. Woman I spoke to said on a personal level she was very aware of the issues, although it's not possible to say with 100% confidence which side she would come down on.....
Written statement please Ocado,

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 27/09/2018 15:45

Bollocks! Only just found this thread and had my weekly delivery this morning.

Another smart pass customer spending £500 + each month.

Going to try shopping in person for a bit.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/09/2018 15:47

Waitrose app is only on iOS!

Oh noes!

They are DISCRIMINATING against me as an andoroid person! Funnily enough I probably feel more strongly about my "identity" as an android person than an apple person Grin I CHOOSE android and I don't like apple products. I AM a woman, that's just a boring old fact. It has nothing to do with my "identity".

Now,

Do I worry more about a company who doesn't care about android people
Or who thinks women are nothng more than an idea in a man's head

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Tricky Grin

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/09/2018 15:48

(DH is an apple person
He can do the shopping
Win / win Grin)

Floisme · 27/09/2018 15:53

That tweet was very public. Any withdrawal needs to be equally public.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/09/2018 15:56

They won't as they are scared of what men will say about them on social media.

I am going to call in a bit.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 15:59

I have emailed customer services to ask when they will be making a public comment. Autoreply says they will contact me within 24 hrs...
