Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

999 replies

PerverseConverse · 25/09/2018 21:59

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Lol @ trust pilot

Not so lol @ when you scroll down, there a load of reviews saying about this - no responses
Then someone talking about baby milk who is likely to be female TBH and no reply
Then someone called "Jamie" talking about plastic bags (likely to be a man, much more common name for men) and is a big apology

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Maybe Ocado actually don't know what women are,
And can't actualyl see or hear us?

tinabloodysparkle · 27/09/2018 14:24

This thread gets me riled, how DARE they ignore this!!

We've spent around £8k a year for over 10 years with them. I didn't want to leave them, they didn't want me to go, they offered a 6 months free membership to try and keep us. When all they really need to do is make a public apology and tell us that they respect their adult female human customers.

The problem now is that they've left it so long that we won't believe them.
Idiots

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/09/2018 14:25

Are Ocado under the impression that their core customer are of the "gender" female but actually people who would be welcome to join the boss at the "presidents club" men only dinner?

How would the presidents club feel about the waitresses given to them to gawp at and feel up all being penis people?

Charliethefeminist · 27/09/2018 14:27

Definitely that's the only actual response I've heard anyone getting.

Lemonyfuckit · 27/09/2018 14:27

Right, another one who does a £100+ weekly order with Ocado, and will cancel. And emailing them to spell out exactly why. I also particularly like the idea up thread re buying a share - on the one hand I don't want their share price to go up with lots of angry women buying shares but on the other hand I like the idea of all those pesky women turning up to their AGMs and being an irritant. Waitrose it is.

Tanith · 27/09/2018 14:31

I've just had a telephone call, too. A management team lady apologising very sincerely for any offence caused and explaining that the tweets should not have been posted and have been removed as a result.

I'm actually quite happy with that result. I appreciate they shouldn't really have got involved but they've said so and apologised. I do think they're trying to do a difficult balancing act to please everyone.

I'm wondering if a statement will be forthcoming or if they propose to telephone everyone personally(!) If so, it's no wonder they're taking so long! They'll be here until those Christmas slots they've just advertised!

secretsciurusvulgaris · 27/09/2018 14:33

What Ocado said in the tweet was public so the apology should be public too!

Tanith · 27/09/2018 14:33

I'm also quite amazed at the purchasing power that women evidently have. I know it's been mentioned before, but I'm not sure I completely believed in it until now.

No wonder Birds Eye are staying well clear and keeping their noses clean!

Charliethefeminist · 27/09/2018 14:34

Yes, needs to be public. JeffiNG cowards.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/09/2018 14:34

Yes, whiever said that it’s easier to upset women is spot on. I still have had no response Angry
Can’t call today, will do so tomorrow!

Tanith · 27/09/2018 14:37

Perhaps it will be once they've got round to everyone, Secrets.
We shall see...

BettyDuMonde · 27/09/2018 14:37

They should send Posie a gift voucher for the balance of the rent on the poster...

Definitelygoingtodebate · 27/09/2018 14:38

Charlie, I assume they've started calling everyone who's contacted them - it sounded like a prepared statement. I think they have certainly received the message about how angry women are about this and are a bit shocked by the response and the damage done to their brand. That said I suspect they're hoping to get away with individual apologies rather than any public retraction.

Definitelygoingtodebate · 27/09/2018 14:41

Ah, I see Tanith has been called too. I would love to know how many people have contacted them!

Coldallthetime · 27/09/2018 14:42

Cowardly way out. I'm not returning to them without a very suitably worded tweet.
'Sorry if anyone was offended' really doesn't do it.

Beamur · 27/09/2018 14:46

Three months free delivery is not such a special offer really. They've offering Boden shoppers 30% off a first shop and free deliveries for a year. Plus same for a friend. I was tempted but maybe not now.

GreenWi82481196 · 27/09/2018 14:46

This is a great idea. Thanks, PerverseConverse.
I suggest that we contact not only Ocado but all the other firms currently advertising on Primesight and tell them we are boycotting them too until Primesight restores the posters it banned.
To forbid someone from saying "Woman = adult human female" is totally ridiculous and humiliates women. The company gave in to the bullying of a man who is not a judge, a lawyer or even a policemen. He has no authority to tell others what to do. Harrop is also a well-known woman-hater, rude and aggressive.
Companies they are advertising at the moment include
@lotd_com
@theCOOKkitchen
@CamdenGardenCentre
@vitabiotics
@isawitfirst
@sweatunion
@theetileshed
@AwakeConBal
@ArnoldClark
@EntitledOnline
@WamBammCabs
If we all boycott the companies advertised on Primesight Direct @Direct_PS they will lose business and may start to listen to us.
Be sure to tell them why you are boycotting them.

GreenGloves · 27/09/2018 14:48

Sorry we let the mask slip and showed we don't give a shit about our core customer base, which is women. We'll be much more careful at hiding our attitude in the future.

Tanith · 27/09/2018 14:48

No, they apologised for any offence caused to me and anyone else.

I don't agree that speaking to people personally - and risking verbal abuse - is a cowardly way out.

GreenWi82481196 · 27/09/2018 14:49

I will go and look to see how many of these companies have a Facebook age, If they do, it would be a good place to notify them of our boycott and draw attention to it.
Woman = adult human female.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 14:50

Have Primesight put their heads up yet?

Beamur · 27/09/2018 14:53

Credit to them for contacting people personally, but a public response is also needed.

NotTerfNorCis · 27/09/2018 14:59

Slightly off-topic, but I just heard that a gender critical sticker appeared in a supermarket toilet in the little East Midlands town where I live. They are getting everywhere! This is great. Smile

sashh · 27/09/2018 14:59

Have Primesight put their heads up yet?

Nope, they even still have the tweet up.

Coldallthetime · 27/09/2018 15:00

I think I'll ask them to tweet me to apologise if I get a call, although I have deleted my account and removed my email.address so they shouldn't really contact me.
