Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

I keep tweeting Ocado, they keep ignoring me, I have asked if it is because I am an adult human female.

Any lawyer know where I am on sex discrimination?

TheElementsSong · 27/09/2018 13:25

What, still no statement? Null points to Ocado on the “brave and stunning” front, then.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 13:28

Even if they did send out a 'were soooooo soooooo soooorrreeeeee' announcement with a huge donation to a (actual) women's aid hostel - it's all just too late.

Bugger me, I worked in business long enough and they will have 'disaster' procedures and an expensive PR firm on retainer to handle this crap.

They aren't doing their job are they?

WokerThanWoke · 27/09/2018 13:28

I think they might be writing this statement on vellum it's taking so long.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 13:29

I can't see trust pilot reviews though.

Urbanbeetler · 27/09/2018 13:32

Nothing they say will make everyone fell ok. They are better off keeping quiet until it gets forgotten. There’s a new hoo-ha every few days: gulags and challoners, women’s awards and girl guides. I bet they have decided least said, soonest mended.

sashh · 27/09/2018 13:35

Ocado are offering a year's free smart pass to new customers, they have just given me three months free, I've only ever shopped with them twice.

Still ignoring my twitter though.

Charliethefeminist · 27/09/2018 13:36

Oh my, that's their response? Or was the promo already in place?

Needmoresleep · 27/09/2018 13:37

Yes, but their customer base is so MN. And their tweet so unnecessary. To then not to put their hands up and admit a mistake is shocking, suggesting they really dont understand their adult human female market.

Perhaps they need a few lessons from Birds Eye!

thiskitten · 27/09/2018 13:39

Yeah, whilst I cancelled on principle - I thought it was probably just a rogue / stupid twitter account monitor. However this lack of response Shock. They really don't care, do they?
They think they are untouchable.
They need to be proved wrong.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 13:43

Oh I can read the trustpilot comments now. I was having a bad day but they have really cheered me up Grin

Funny that they are responding to the 'you sent to wrong cat food' reviews but not the 'You creeps, I'm off' ones.

secretsciurusvulgaris · 27/09/2018 13:48

Yes, curious that they are unworthy of a reply. I wonder how much they have lost in annual sales so far? I have added a review too - though it looks like their ratings were mediocre before this debacle.

StealthNinjaMum · 27/09/2018 13:54

I'm quite sad about the Trustpilot reviews but I might write one too

My first Sainsbury's order has arrived. On time, no substitutions. I might start a Christmas Waitrose order later.

I haven't cancelled my Ocado smart pass yet but I guess that's next.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 13:58

I'm watching their star rating decrease..... 3.....

sashh · 27/09/2018 14:02

They are not replying on trust pilot to any comment about their values and the poster. So they are ignoring women.

So they are discriminating against us.

Who's got legal experience?

Funny that they are responding to the 'you sent to wrong cat food' reviews but not the 'You creeps, I'm off' ones.

This is so stupid of them, how long do we leave it before we go to the EHRC?

GulagsMyArse · 27/09/2018 14:06

Fuck um, fuck um! I'm so over all this stupid shit now ( sorry just gotta rant a bit).

Ignoring us, is not a strategy, it just makes you look even worse Ocado.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 27/09/2018 14:09

They fell over themselves to please a male complainant.

Now they're stuck between losing female customers who actually spend money with them and previously supported them, or getting screamed at for 'transphobia' and dragged through the mud that way if they admit they made a bloody great huge mistake.

As usual, women are safer to upset. Thank you whoever mentioned Riverford, having I'll switch to them forthwith.

TheElementsSong · 27/09/2018 14:12

As usual, women are safer to upset.

THIS is the key point in the entire wider debacle. That actually nobody has any difficulty identifying who is a man and who is a woman when it comes to which to throw under the bus.

Charliethefeminist · 27/09/2018 14:14

As usual, women are safer to upset

Word. Share price has recovered yesterday's losses. Interesting that the Ocado boycott over the Presidents Dinner made the news, but this has not. Everyone is too afraid of the borg, in case they put a word wrong. This is bigger than the PD boycott and will be longer lasting.

kikashi · 27/09/2018 14:14

Just what I was going to say The Elements So True

sashh · 27/09/2018 14:14

OK I have put a complaint in to the equality advisory service. Unbelievably the drop down for the type of discrimination says sex/gender!

For a start sex and gender are not the same thing - you need to correct that.

I, like many women have complained to Ocado because of their support for Dr Andrew Harrop and their unwillingness to engage with women, appoogise for their tweet implying that women are a) a hate group and b) not adult human females.

Contact by email, twitter, online contact and reviews on trust pilot are all being ignored while other messages with the namesJamie, Arun and Steve are replied to.

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 14:16

Yes. No response to the complaints of misogyny but if they sent you the wrong brand of cat food they are on it.

It tells you exactly how much Ocado views the majority of its customers. ie adult human females, with contempt.

TheFemaleGaze · 27/09/2018 14:18

Delurking because this gave me a good laugh. No Ocado where I live. As a former PR flunkie, I have to say I’m rather dismayed at how they’re handling this.

Definitelygoingtodebate · 27/09/2018 14:19

Just had a phonecall from the management team apologising and saying the tweet should not have been posted and that it wasn't an issue that Ocado should have been commenting on. So far spot on, but they then gave a long list of the categories of people they wanted to be inclusive of which mentioned gender but not sex. So while I appreciate the apology and retraction of the tweet I don't feel they've entirely got the point yet...

(Waves hello - I'm a long term mumsnetter under another username who has finally decided to unlurk.)

Coldallthetime · 27/09/2018 14:21

This really needs to hit the mainstream media to make a difference I fear.
Strange how the Daily Mail hasn't picked up on it when they're normally all over MN like a rash.
The Trust Pilot reviews alone are worth coverage.
Any fancy tipping off The Times? It's as much a business/consumer story as anything else.
