Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

I've emailed them to tell them why I won't be shopping with them any more.

Ikeasucks · 26/09/2018 16:30

I’m sure they’ll get plenty of new transfolk with families to feed rushing to replace us, students in student digs, and school kids with blue hair.

Datun · 26/09/2018 16:31

How many women buy billboard space? Women don't have the leverage to stop Primesite making ignorant, misogynistic decisions.

They do have leverage to challenge Ocado wholeheartedly agreeing with them though.

It never ceases to amaze me how certain businesses have such contempt for their customer base, presumably because they're merely female.

You would think, wouldn't you, that a business which relies on women would know little bit about them.

So no, I don't feel sorry for Ocado. Maybe representing your business and putting your opinion on Twitter should be preceded by some training.

In the past I have used both Ocado and Waitrose. IMO Waitrose delivery was just as good as Ocado with regard to costs, timings and service. The Waitrose delivery areas and range of goods are I think smaller, because AFAIK the stuff comes from the nearest actual Waitrose supermarket rather than a big logistics centre.

It's been quite a few years since I used Ocado, but I still get occasional emails with various offers, asking me to come back to them. Had I been thinking of it, I definitely wouldn't be, now.

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/09/2018 16:34

Can someone organise a crowd funder to try and get a a mirror poster with the dictionary definition of "man" on it?

See if Harrop complains?

After all self id will work both ways?

Gentlygently · 26/09/2018 16:38

Still no statement? How long can it take???

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/09/2018 16:40

Thank you Elements!

We are in London and near a waitrose so won't have trouble being in delivery region I'm sure.

thinking about it and with recent news re john lewis i can sell it to myself and DH as supporting something we like (LOVE john lewis & waitrose!)

the free stuff will be missed

Does anyone know what the Ocado top management looks like? How many women execs do they have? I just wonder if there's an ingrained culture within the organisation. Because I don't believe for a minute that if there were women properly represented, that this would have happened at all. Someone would have said something and put a stop to it early on. Or at the very least it would have been amicably dealt with by now. This is why women are needed at all levels of company structure - we need our voices heard before the point at which a company like Ocado forgets we exist.

PineappleSunrise · 26/09/2018 16:45

I've been an Ocado customer since they launched. Between this and the Presidents Club fiasco, I can see all too clearly where they stand when it comes to women.

I have cancelled as well today. They've had more than enough time to retract that statement, and they've failed to do so. Deleting it just isn't good enough.

LaPufalina · 26/09/2018 16:49

I've emailed asking if the statement will come out today, as I need to book my weekend's grocery delivery.
Occasionally checking ocado's mentions on twitter, some people are having a bad day at work at ocado hq today.

seafret · 26/09/2018 16:49

Me too Sorenipples. My smart pass runs out on Friday so had already stopped the auto renew hoping for an offer, so my leverage was to cancel today's delivery, email last night and wait for a response before either closing my account completely or buying another pass.

But having waited all day, I have the answer I need. They don't care.

We rely on home delivery so Ocado could be handy for some non-food items too. But I prefer much Sainsburys anyway so have Ocado much less than I did, and what I can't get from Sainsbury's limited range in my area, I can get from other shopping companies like Goodness Direct etc in mini bulk every so often .

I am off to cancel Ocado completely now.

Remember I saw on the Ocado Twiiter that one of their staff members had won a Women in Retail award. I ownder how she would have felt had she lost out to a Bunce or bearded transwoman.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 26/09/2018 16:51

I am not sorry for them: I mailed their pressoffice yesterday lunchtime with a clear and corporately written message on this so they have had over 24 hours to get their crisis communication in order. I did a live chat today and they clearly were expecting this kind of message. They have to respond rapidly or else they are history. I depend £500 a week with them (big family, expensive tastes, many pets).

Whatnextfred · 26/09/2018 16:53

I sent a live chat message asking for a response and it was seen and deleted Hmm

seafret · 26/09/2018 16:55

Too clarify, I am not sorry for them, I am angry that they haven't responded but not at all surprised!

Had an edit fail when I refreshed the page and lost my words!

I emailed last night and have had no reply, whereas some people seem to have had a more personal reply already.

Bastards.

Mammysin · 26/09/2018 16:56

I have emailed Tim Steiner. I’m so grateful to you all for bringing this to my attention. In sisterly support x

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/09/2018 16:56

I think they will brazen it out. It's taken too long and they will be hoping that it will flatten out and blow over.

Tanith · 26/09/2018 17:01

while two in five trans people (41%) have experienced a hate crime or incident in the last year.

What sort of hate crimes? Reading a dictionary? Passing a dangerous billboard?

I’m surprised it’s as low as 41% if that’s the case!

Tanith · 26/09/2018 17:02

I think there are 3 non-executive women on the board, by the way. Better than some.

SolidarityGdansk · 26/09/2018 17:04

I have cancelled my order for this week. And will wait to see their statement before I decide whether to order from them again.

While waiting I have downloaded the Waitrose ap and it really looks rather good. I am going to try them out this week.

10 years I’ve shopped weekly at Ocado. But I am not spending £100 a week with an organisation who stand with TRAs

pinkcardi · 26/09/2018 17:07

Oh bugger. Just cancelled mine.

Went onto live chat, and hoped they would say something sensible but they didn't.

It's a huge inconvenience and I love Ocado but the world has gone mad and they've just joined the madness

redshoeblueshoe · 26/09/2018 17:09

Has nobody had a reply yet ?
0/10 Ocado

TerfsUp · 26/09/2018 17:10

No response - I emailed at lunch time.

TerfsUp · 26/09/2018 17:11

What sort of hate crimes? Reading a dictionary? Passing a dangerous billboard?

I believe at least some of them were exposed to a handkerchief. How's that for literal violence?

JamAtkins · 26/09/2018 17:11

Went onto live chat, and hoped they would say something sensible but they didn't

They won’t even speak to me on live chat. I’m just talking to myself

TerfsUp · 26/09/2018 17:12

They basically told me to piss off and stop bothering them on live chat. Not a good look, Ocado.
