Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

PerverseConverse · 25/09/2018 21:59

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Thanks tenbob.

TerfsUp · 26/09/2018 15:21

What does that have to do with it other than a bid for sympathy and distraction?

Exactly. And why did Stonewall need to comment on it, anyway?

ImPreCis · 26/09/2018 15:28

I have cancelled, they didn’t try to persuade me to stay, but I haven’t used them for a while.
It’s a shame as I am just about to change jobs and was looking to go back to them.
Thank you to Perverse, Posie, everyone on this thread that has gone out of their way to do something. THIs feels like the key, protesting where we spend our money, , even if that is subs, council tax etc. I am feeling cheered by this thread.

Good one Brendan O'Neill
Whatthefoxgoingon · 26/09/2018 15:32

I’ve cancelled. I’d urge anyone who doesn’t use Ocado to email them to say why you won’t consider using them in future either. They need to know they’ve alienated their potential customer base as well.

charlestonchaplin · 26/09/2018 15:33

I think they're waiting to see how bad it gets. If the cancellations taper off and they think they can cope with the numbers who've left they'll do nothing or say they do of course support women but pretty much leave it at that. That is, they won't pick a side. Only if the cancellations show no sign of stopping will they put out a stronger statement but I still think it will be pretty weak. Who wants to face the wrath of the TRAs? So many women don't know what is going on and think transactivism won't have any significant effect on their lives.

Needmoresleep · 26/09/2018 15:33

As well as losing current customers, they have damaged their brand. I live in Prime Ocado territory, indeed I think the children of one of the Ocado founders was at my kids prep school. I am impressed by my neighbour's weekly delivery. Clearly she values quality so she pays more.

I wont think the same now. The kids have left home and we have given up our weekly trip to market, baker and butcher, plus the odd stock up at Majestic or Lidl, though parking is a nightmare at both.

I quite liked the thought of clicking on the internet and having nice Waitrose goodies delivered. A luxury we can finally afford.

But why would I buy from a tarnished misogynist brand? And why would I admire my neighboir for doing so?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 26/09/2018 15:34

Oh and we spend £250-300 a week at Ocado. Not anymore we don’t. Angry

Coldallthetime · 26/09/2018 15:34

It'll be interesting to see if they want to retrieve us high-spending customers.
Not bothered if not, there are other retailers and I was already questioning their over-usage of plastic packaging.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/09/2018 15:42

OK, that's what I found.

BiologyMatters · 26/09/2018 15:43

Oh my god. A news piece that fully supports the feminist view point. Have I slipped into an alternate dimension?

Posie has played a blinder with that poster. Well done that woman. Thanks for your contribution too harrop. This wouldn't be happening without you kicking up a fuss.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/09/2018 15:53

The general public are starting to get it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/09/2018 15:56

Who wants to face the wrath of the TRAs?

The thing is the TRAs may have the wrath and in some cases the earn of significant people, but women overwhelmingly have the purchasing power.

Every TRA and TRA ally boycotting Ocado would have no impact especially as they are all penniless students . A small chunk of the female population boycotting them on the other hand...

ImPreCis · 26/09/2018 15:58

We have moved away from supermarkets, across to Riverford box deliveries. WOnderful organic veggies, meat, dairy, bread and wine, all delivered to your door in returnable packaging. They also do larder foods, although I havent tried those yet. Their customer service is first rate.
We think it works out cheaper than Waitrose, although I do still go there for fish and a few frozen items.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/09/2018 15:58

Geraldine -

Your mum is awesome Smile

Cuntysnark · 26/09/2018 15:59

I’ve emailed them and told them I want nothing more to do with them.

borntobequiet · 26/09/2018 16:05

Dr Wotsit is apparently "not transgender". But we have seen pics of him dressed as a woman, haven't we? Was it not as a sort of Spice Girl lookalike? And wouldn't that put him under the trans umbrella? Or am I thinking of someone else? And why would he say he isn't, anyway?
So many questions...

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/09/2018 16:10

Caught up. See that we have:

CEO is misogynist bastard
No statement

Right.

Anyone use Wairose to deliver? Yes i am a giant ponce with more money than sense and a taste for hand-woven organic semi-neutralised grass fed sung-to-daily crab based yummery. Surely exactly the sort of customer they like to have?

I will miss the free stuff.

Need to talk to DH as he is also extremely interested in eating very nice things, and loves a freebie. He knows about all this though, and is constantly aghast that he could say "I'm a woman " and BINGO into topshop to mingle with the teenage girls and the gappy-curtained changing rooms, rocking up as a guide leader and sharing with the female leaders, taking a shit in the women's bog at work with impunity and oh yes I'd immediately be a "lesbian" etc etc

Stupid fuckers.

As an aside that Brendan O'Neill clip, I really thought the woman nest ti him was going to disagree strongly - then she agreed! Wow!!!!

(I assume she's a woman but I haven't actually asked so hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm shoudln't have said that should I...)

wiccamum · 26/09/2018 16:11

Confirmed I want all my details removed from their database and account/smartpass closed. The woman I spoke to on the phone sounded a bit fraught. I explained I had waited off cancelling to hear a statement from Ocado, but if it has taken them this long and still no word then it’s pretty clear to me who’s opinion they value more. And I’m clearly not valuable enough so you can do one Ocado!
I also pointed out to her that she might want to check out what a sleazy misogynist her big boss is!

blamethecat · 26/09/2018 16:12

I have just emptied the dirty cat litter into an Ocado bag, as I do most weeks, but today it felt good.

Knicknackpaddyflak Exactly - how can they use those figures without referencing how many women also receive the same treatment?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/09/2018 16:24

Why don't they say how many nurses or charity workers get assaulted at work?

Ikeasucks · 26/09/2018 16:26

I’ve happily used Ocado for yesrs spending thousands a year - time for a change - bye bye.

sorenipples · 26/09/2018 16:28

Ocado - if you are reading this I'm deeply disappointed. I didn't rush to cancel, I've given you time to get your house in order and understand the hornets nest you may have accidentally stumbled on. But I expected action.

Don't think the cancellations of smart pass/boycott are over, I'm sure I'm one of many who was giving you a chance before taking action. I also will be mentioning this to friends/family so expect more action as the word spreads.

If Waitrose don't offer the same range, I may contact some of the niche brands I buy suggesting they move to a different vendor as I (and presumably others) are now unable to purchase them.
