Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Just seen this written by MB in The Times comments -

To put this into context a Melton Mowbray Pork pie has better protected status than a women.
the worlds gone bonkers!

VillageCats · 26/09/2018 14:33

Inadvertent my arse! They waded straight into the moment they started spouting about their values. Bollocks they didn't know what they were doing. What they didn't know was that women, ya know, the ones that do the shop wouldn't just take it. Fuck them.

sorenipples · 26/09/2018 14:42

Does anyone have the original tweet they responded to? A lot of the country still aren't aware of the nuances of this debate, and asked if they supported transphobia or transphobic messages being advertised would automatically say they didn't. In corporate speak they would say the message wasn't aligned with their values. I agree it's poor due diligence, but I will judge them by what they do next not two now deleted tweets.

And I am impatiently waiting to find out what that is.

In a thread about Ocado, someone shared this really good blogpost (apologies if it's a well-known one, it seems to be up-to-date with the latest revelations)

It's a good one to start the discussion

Which article in the Times is it, Reallylongstory?
I only have the Poster Girl one (and there’s bo bloody comments in the Times app although there’s every chance I just cannot find them).

Batteriesallgone · 26/09/2018 14:46

Has there been a statement yet? Just seen all this.

Not sure what to do, I have to boycott I guess. I’m autistic and have severe anxiety so changing food suppliers is going to cause a lot of stress. I would like to see the statement before I decide but the strong part of me says if it’s taken them this long to write a statement they are clearly actually giving headspace to MRAs / AWAs so whatever they say they are shits.

FFS Ocado.

I have just cancelled my recurring Ocado order, and switched to a local farm veg and meat box, plus a Waitrose order. I've also deregged from Ocado marketing and emailed to explain why they've lost my business. It lost me half an hour of work time which I'm not best pleased about but actually has been cheaper for the same items.

tenbob · 26/09/2018 14:57

@WokerThanWoke

A SmartPass is a monthly fee you pay in order to get all your deliveries for free

So instead of paying a delivery fee with each order, you pay a flat rate each month

It works out cheaper if you use Ocado as your weekly shop and shows them you intend to keep using them as your weekly shop

GeraldineFangedVagine · 26/09/2018 14:57

I’ve cancelled, can’t believe 1984 isn’t a work of fiction.

The story about the billboard is now on the BBC news app. Wonder if they’ll pick up the Ocado link later?

StealthNinjaMum · 26/09/2018 15:08

I have emailed Tim Steiner (thanks for the poster who gave his address) and the 3 PR contacts on their 'contact us' page although one email bounced back.

For people asking about the relationship with Morrisons, l used to know someone who worked for Ocado, and I think that Morrisons were investing money in computer systems and possibly even that Ocado were stocking Morrison's things and fulfilling and despatching the order. My friend told me that the reason that Ocado's bags are not Ocado branded (they're just grey with a colour related to fridge, freezer, cupboard etc) is so that they can use the same bags as Morrisons.

Assuming I am correct, and this hasn't changed, then anyone switching online delivery to Morrisons would still be giving money to Ocado and helping with the efficiency of their vast, automated warehouses.

What a pain switching supplier, I suppose I'll go with Sainsbury's and at least will be able to collect lego cards.

TerfsUp · 26/09/2018 15:08

The story about the billboard is now on the BBC news app.

Being the BBC, I am sure that they will spin it so that it looks like
women non-men are being horrible and hysterical over nothing.

Batteriesallgone · 26/09/2018 15:11

Ocado bags are branded, aren’t they?

Must go check. They’ve definitely got writing on the side and are quite distinctively ‘Ocado’

IndominusRex · 26/09/2018 15:11

Has anyone flagged the Ocado story to Hadley/Janice etc?

PerverseConverse · 26/09/2018 15:12

It's s shame the bbc haven't opened up comments on their page. Although if the usual idiots that post on there post then it's probably best they don't.

StealthNinjaMum · 26/09/2018 15:17

Batteriesallgone I have just checked and my Ocado bags aren't branded.

NameChangedAgain18 · 26/09/2018 15:17

I actually doubt that they will put out a statement. They can’t retrieve the situation, and will only piss off more people on both sides.

theOtherPamAyres · 26/09/2018 15:19

Do you think that Ocado feels on the wrong side of history today?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 26/09/2018 15:20

In response to the poster, LGBT charity Stonewall said: "Our 2018 Trans Report revealed that one in eight trans employees (12%) have been physically attacked at work, while two in five trans people (41%) have experienced a hate crime or incident in the last year.

And? What does that have to do with it other than a bid for sympathy and distraction? Is women covering up dictionary definitions and facts somehow going to control and reduce male violence?

How many women have been physically attacked, assaulted, sexually harassed at work in the last year, and how many women have experienced sexual harassment, assault, domestic violence, rape, murder, or any other incident committed by a man specifically because they were in possession of female biology? We're not allowed to call 'misogyny' a hate crime. And that's only the real, provable crimes, we're also not allowed to stretch 'saying things I don't like' to be a hate crime and it's almost impossible to get our voices into the national press.
