Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

@HaveIDoneSomethingSilly

I’m not sure how integrated they are but when Morrison’s started doing home delivery at the massive business park I work at Ocado were involved. They work out of the same building I believe but I don’t know exactly how ‘together they are. I’m a bit pushed for time but this article from 2016 has some details.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/09/2018 10:29

Rae what was transphobic about that poster? And what do you think led to that poster springing to life at all?

Charliethefeminist · 26/09/2018 10:30

Oh wow la pufalina. They'll miss you. They'll miss us all.

HaveIDoneSomethingSilly · 26/09/2018 10:31

@kimberlyS2. Thank you. I was just having a google and found that there was some sort of connection with the technology they share or something along those lines. I’ll have a read of that but looks like I’ll have to keep looking😟. So glad for the awareness that this thread is generating. Going to be much more careful where I shop from now on.

MistOnTheWater · 26/09/2018 10:33

And their profits go down. no wonder they're in a meeting (as a PP was told). Probably trying to think of a way to turn it around, whilst tearing their hair out. I wonder if the person who put that Twitter statement out has been sacked yet? Didn't realise their CEO was at that horrible dinner where the waitresses got groped.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/09/2018 10:34

Just called Ocado. The lovely chap I spoke to had just come back from hols and didn't know anything about this, so I referred him to the Times article.

He spoke to a manager and has confirmed that Ocado will be issuing a press statement later today. I said that I will await the statement with interest.

blamethecat · 26/09/2018 10:36

Cancelled my account. Idiots.

Xiaoxiong · 26/09/2018 10:39

I'm at work so can't phone them till later on. Have they issued a statement yet?

AbsintheFriends · 26/09/2018 10:40

LaPufalina thanks for your solidarity. Not easy to take a stand in your circumstances, but it's appreciated.

GulagMilkMonitor · 26/09/2018 10:45

Is there anywhere independent online where one can review supermarkets or online retailers?

Well done everyone.
TRAs on twitter spend their time threatening companies who advertise on Mumsnet. It's about time that we used the power of women was used to demonstrate just what we think of those companies supporting misogyny and the erasure of woman as a legal identity. (and I'm about to put lots of lovely Bird's Eye products in my shopping trolley today! )

LaPufalina · 26/09/2018 10:50

Thanks Abs and Charlie
Women's rights > free stuff, obviously!
Not even a sad face from DH, he's massively concerned as to how this is all going, as a teacher and father to two girls.

sorenipples · 26/09/2018 10:53

I'm waiting for the press statement before I cancel my smart pass.

I have mixed feelings about the billboard, as I see unnecessary reminders to transwomen that they aren't woman as cruel. Like telling a fat person they are fat when not medically relevant or explaining why a size 8 doesn't fit. Unfortunately the actions of TRAs mean such measures do seem proportionate . If TRAs didn't try and redefine "woman "there would be no need to emphasise the correct definition.

thiskitten · 26/09/2018 10:53

What's the deal with Birdseye?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/09/2018 10:53

A whole lot more people are starting to become aware of what is actually happening now with regards to trans policy.

JackieReacher · 26/09/2018 10:54

Tim Steiner's personal values are dubious to say the least, and not just over the president's dinner. Check out what he puled with his wife / mother of his many children / supporter during decades of starting the thing up and is now shacked up with a plastic filled lingerie model 20 yrs his junior. Of course.

(thank god I got my 13th anniversary £10 of chocolate last week...)

Charliethefeminist · 26/09/2018 10:59

Sorenipples

If there was a poster with pictures of a group of ambitious black people and the message said 'we are black:we are here' it's not offensive in the same way as if it were white people. Both are true but one group is systematically discriminated against (like women) and that makes it a message of equality, not phobia.

Transactivists are not the victims or the discriminated against. They gave so much power, so much money, so much support in parliament and the media. Women need to do something to say 'we are still here!'

DereksSexyPyjamas · 26/09/2018 11:01

What's the deal with Birdseye?

They know which side their fish finger butty is buttered on and have avoided getting sucked in.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/09/2018 11:01

But some who identify as trans - aren't really are they? Not in the old sense of the word. A man who says 'I'm a woman because I feel like it but I'm not going to have any surgery as unlike my willy' isn't really someone who believes he is a woman

Molokonono · 26/09/2018 11:02

Like telling a fat person they are fat when not medically relevant or explaining why a size 8 doesn't

Ironically it was replaced by an obesity poster. Obesity being a big cause of cancer.

Best get on the blower and make your complaint eh? Best identify as a man first though.

If the definition of woman is transphobic, then you are saying that transactivism is opposed to the rights of women. Which it is. But you need to see this for what it is

If we cannot define sex then we cannot define sexism.

If women cannot define women then what is the word you will use for those becunted types that previously were known as 'women'?

GulagMilkMonitor · 26/09/2018 11:03

What's the deal with Birdseye?

They advertise with Mumsnet and have some products with “approved by Mumsnet” on the packaging. TRAs keep threatening Birdseye and telling them now triggering the MN logo is for them and asking them not to advertise on Mumsnet at all.

I have a netball team sized family of kids, we get through a heck of a lot of their zip lock peas, chicken dippers, fish fingers and an assortment of their products. Good luck to them if they want to ditch the business of thousands or even millions of women who feed the faces of small folks with their products daily.

Charliethefeminist · 26/09/2018 11:05

They have, not they gave

TimIsHavingABadDay · 26/09/2018 11:05

For the person that asked what had been included in emails, this is what I sent to Tim

to ocado

Dear Tim,
I am an existing customer and my flat mates and I share an account from which we get our weekly food shop delivered. We are all women and work plenty of irregular hours in the NHS. Your food delivery system has, up until now, been the perfect solution for speedy, accurate, home deliveries. However, I would very much like some clarification why the term "Woman=Adult Human Female " is such an offensive term, you supported it being removed from a billboard in Liverpool? I am a very proud Scouse WOMAN. I am an adult human female. I walk past that billboard every single day. I saw nothing offensive at all about a sign that displays the definition of WOMAN.

You may well claim that the group behind the sign is a radical hate group that are spreading poison and bile but a simple google of the website that was at the bottom of the billboard proves otherwise. It is simply a group of women that are trying to protect the rights of biological women (as protected by law in the UK) and prevent erasure of the term WOMAN. They are not against trans people but wish to keep single sex spaces as exactly that. Single sex for women. So women would be protected in prisons, and fully intact penis owning male prisoners that identify as women, are kept out. But that would never happen surely? It already has and women were raped while in prison by a male prisoner named Karen White, that was previously convicted of sex crimes against women AND children.....so they put him in a female prison with a mother and baby unit. But surely that is the end of women's rights being trampled on?

A little more googling says no, it is not. Trans people are fighting for unisex toilets. Where is the harm? I hear you ask. Well actually, you may never guess this but once again it puts biological women at a disadvantage. Sex crimes shoot through the roof in mixed sex facilities and guess who are the victims? it is WOMEN.

www.independent.co.uk/life-style/women/sexual-assault-unisex-changing-rooms-sunday-times-women-risk-a8519086.html

Now, Imagine you are a woman. It's the period from hell, you are approaching the menopause and your genitals are spewing out what looks like chopped liver. You fight your way into a cubicle to change your moon cup. There is blood everywhere, you use your last three baby wipes and scraps of loo roll to tidy up as best you can. But you look like a murder victim, whoever said a period is an egg cup full of blood must have been male. You exit the cubicle to look for extra loo roll and find yourself face to face with 3 men. They look over your shoulder, they see the blood they sneer at you as they elbow each other in the ribs. You have to deal with this when you feel at your most vulnerable. You are forced to wash your hands at breakneck speed as they tell each other how gross it is, how can somebody bleed for 7 days and not die. You start crying, big fat sobs as you run out the room leaving your mess like a shameful stain. ( yes, that actually happened to me in a mixed sex toilet.) Now imagine that is your 13 year old daughter and tell me mixed sex toilets are ok.

Now in a women's toilet, the woman in the next stall would pass me paper, put a reassuring hand on my shoulder and tell me its ok, it happens to us all. In a very good women's toilet, there may even be san pro for free that makes us feel like we are normal people that don't have to pay tax on our tampons just for the very decadent luxury of menstruating! But there would be no MEN. But I don't expect any of this to matter to Ocado as I am going to assume the top tiers of the company are penis owners and not in fact a majority of women (unlike your customers though eh?)

So Ocado. Why is the term "Woman" so offensive to you that you could only continue to use PrimeSight after they had removed that billboard? Us continuing to use your service is dependent upon your reply. You either support the biological women that make up .....what? 80% of your customer base? or you don't.

I look forward to your reply.
