Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

PerverseConverse · 25/09/2018 21:59

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Tim Steiner, the CEO of Ocado attended that horrendously misogynistic President's Dinner earlier this year, didn't he? Talk about having form:

I just called and the person I spoke to had no comment to make, they removed my details straight away and cancelled my smart pass. One more email and I will refer to the ICO.

thiskitten · 26/09/2018 09:50

@GoldenWonderwall no way do they really? (used to live in the north and miss that place so much! Makes Waitrose look like a Poundland!)

PerverseConverse · 26/09/2018 09:51

Wow, I had no idea there would be this level of desertion! Good on everyone for taking a stand and standing with women!
I've not heard back from ocado yet. Where will they post their statement?

Molokonono · 26/09/2018 09:53

I emailed their values and also told them that this has revealed that their CEO was an attendee at the infamous 'man's night' and that it was a spectacular own goal.

Idiots. Honestly, fuck any statement I'm out of Ocado forever now.

TeaEnjoyingRadiantFeminist · 26/09/2018 09:54

I don't shop at Ocado (they don't deliver in my area) so I can't boycott, but can confirm that if they do decide to deliver where I am I will not be using them. I just wanted to say how impressed I am at the sheer amount of support for women that has been displayed here, you're all fabulous!

BangingOn · 26/09/2018 09:54

I suggest a search for “Ocado PR” on LinkedIn which gives you the names of people currently employed in that role. Their email addresses are formatted [email protected]

Sarahconnor1 · 26/09/2018 09:55

It's not based on the actions of the third party, it's based on Ocado's reaction and tweets.

This. I cancelled my account last night.

GoldenWonderwall · 26/09/2018 09:59

Yes kitten it’s just the Booths Xmas stuff but they deliver it nationwide! We had the Xmas dinner in a box affair last year and it was amazing.

I’d forgotten about the dinner where waitresses were sexually assaulted but everyone who attended left early and didn’t see anything. If you’re going to make out your company is dead principled you’ve gotta walk the talk imho.

SolidarityGdansk · 26/09/2018 10:03

I just cancelled my order for tomorrow morning.

And told the the phone handler that I would reassess whether I cancel my account completely with them (after 10 years) depending on the strength of the statement they are currently drafting

If it is a non-apology “we are sorry you feel that way” statement then I am switching to Waitrose. I have already downloaded the ap.

HaveIDoneSomethingSilly · 26/09/2018 10:03

I’m going to try Morrisons. I can’t see mention of gender on their values page but they do list sex as a characteristic. Please let me know if you know of any reason I shouldn’t give them my business! I will be emailing to check though.

Magair · 26/09/2018 10:06

Would anyone be willing to post the wording they used in they email, or PM it? I wouldn't c and p but brain not really working on where to start right now and could use a jumping off point. TIA.

Gentlygently · 26/09/2018 10:08

Do phone up! Think of all the call handlers going home and saying ‘guess what happened at work today’. Plus a phone call takes a lot longer to deal with than an email.....

TimeLady · 26/09/2018 10:09

Anyone emailing should perhaps include a link to this thread. Y'know, like a free focus group...Wink

Oh, that'll be an interesting starting point for their senior meeting today PerverseConverse,

The power of Mumsnet in action.

AbsintheFriends · 26/09/2018 10:16

Nice work TakeAbow Grin

Looks like they generally respond to reviews, so I look forward to reading their reaction.

(Is it easy to register with trustpilot? Asking for several thousand MN friends...)

ArtemisWeatherwax · 26/09/2018 10:19

Another one who has booked a Waitrose delivery slot. I've also bought a Tesco delivery saver.

Having a CEO who thinks its acceptable to grope waitresses and a PR account who think it's transphobic to state a woman is an adult female is TOTALLY BONKERS for a company who depend on women to spend their money with them.

ShovingLeopard · 26/09/2018 10:20

Oh dear. I was about to try them again, after boycotting them for over 10 years after too many fucked up deliveries (bear a grudge, what me?). I will just be sticking with Waitrose now.

ourkidmolly · 26/09/2018 10:23

I've just phoned and cancelled my smart pass too. The guy said he hadn't seen poster. Been with Ocado for over a decade and spend thousands. Have a work account too so will not be using that either. I'm not prepared to keep putting up with this crap.

SlightAggrandising · 26/09/2018 10:24

I never buy dove any more because of that ad.

This is great work. Women are awesome.

LaPufalina · 26/09/2018 10:24

First post on the feminist board
I'm a long-standing ocado customer (ten years this month and they have me on their super-users reviewer list so I get sent free stuff to review every month). We spend about £6k a year with them.
I've just cancelled my delivery for Saturday and phoned to tell them that depending on their statement today I'll be cancelling my smart pass and future orders too. The call-handler didn't seem surprised.
Unfortunately I'm sleep-deprived with a newborn and poorly toddler so wasn't the most articulate!

RaeCJ82 · 26/09/2018 10:25

I'm so confused by this. I don't think Ocado are saying they don't support women. I think they're saying they don't support transphobia. I'd say that's fair enough in this overly sensitised, politically correct on steroids world we live in.
