Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

What's with all the transgender hate?

Tiggy82 · 22/09/2018 23:23

I'm new to this and have been looking at the feminism chat and there seems to be so much hate and fear about transgender people! What's that about? And apparently you can't be a feminist and be accepting of transgender people, that just seems ludicrous to me, surely feminism is about equality, I am not pretending to be particularly knowledgeable on the trans subject, but i do think having equality for transgender people is nothing but a positive thing. Has anyone actually been personally negatively affected by a transgender person? Or is it all a theoretical fear?

I think we've not mentioned women in psychiatric wards, nearly enough. I am so sorry for what happened to you.

And you should keep contributing

speakingwoman · 23/09/2018 09:32

I am so sorry for your loss Panda

Flowers and you are extremely articulate so please post more.

I agree with Crackpots, mixed sex psychiatric wards is a topic that needs discussing much more. Especially locked ones - these women cannot escape in exactly the same way women in prisons cannot escape.

DuckingGoodPJs · 23/09/2018 09:57

Oh @Tiggy82**
You're not even a good troll.

Sums it all up for me Language.

Hey OP, troll harder! This is like shooting fish in a barrel. You cannot seriously come here and ask "what's with all the trans hate" when you don't even (apparently!) know "Karen White".

Trolling tips:
Don't come in at 101, especially as all the other explanation threads are frequently listed

Don't come in with 'it never happens', because it does, frequently

Don't come in and expect women to waste their time addressing inane questions that have been answered many times before

and finally...
Don't come in.

This is seriously trolling. These are not 'innocent questions', this is just a waste of bloody time.

Molokonono · 23/09/2018 09:58

Should that be allowed to happen?

No and yet again, the man won and the woman was kicked out.

The story of women. The End.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 23/09/2018 10:09

I have seen what you are referring to but have decided to keep my beak out of it until I've read more and can decide what is going on as I'm very behind in the debate. Something, I fear, you did not decide to do and are now being devoured by the nest of vipers

I like that plink...the rest of the post isnt aimed at you Smile

I have seen posts ive cringed at and ive also seen posts that are from brand new shit stirring posters that have said some of the most disturbing things about transpeople. Ive also seen anti-women posters make snarky posts which have been picked up by the media and others as being 'transphobic'

The vast majority of posters on FWR arent transphobic in the slightest...but there are always going to be outliers that are...as in all walks of life

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 23/09/2018 10:20

katara

Oh goodness, great post

As the trans activist campaigns (attacks?) on women’s venues and opinions increased, so did the threads on here

And i am so thick...why didnt i put this together!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 23/09/2018 10:22

Sorry panda Flowers

Thanks, I read the feminism topic a lot.

The psychiatric hospital issues bother me obviously drawing on past experiences but the same could be true of a normal hospital, a bed bound women couldn't remove herself from that situation either. Same with prison, a friend from that same hospital stay actually ended up in prison due too alcohol and mental health issues not a violent crime. Women in prison talk about this issue and they ARE scared.

Women who need home care or care home care, who are housebound, Ill even dying if they specify female or nurses for whatever reason what is that going to even mean with this new ruling?

When I was in hospital I wasn't well enough to fight what happened to me (I don't feel traumatised by what happened I just feel angry looking back) now I am. We need to stand up for women's rights when they for whatever reason can't stand up for themselves.

(I got my medication and life back on track, the rugby tacking patient in my story is now my DH, I've been stable four years and have a little boy)

I hope to remain stable but with bi-polar that isn't guaranteed if I need inpatient treatment in the future I would like to be in a relatively safe position while receiving that care.

hackmum · 23/09/2018 11:01

As we frequently have new posters asking this question, either in good faith or (as I suspect) not, could we have a succinct one sentence answer that we can direct them to, and then we can all move on?

I'd like to suggest: "We believe that trans rights are being used as a Trojan Horse by male sexual abusers to gain access to victims."

Obviously it's more complicated than that, and there's much more we could say, but how does it sound as an easy-to-understand summary?

CrackpotsArePots · 23/09/2018 11:02

Yes. We need to speak up for all women. Elderly women too. Women with dementia who cannot speak for themselves

Have you filled in the Consultation, or written to your MP. If you think you aren't articulate enough, believe me; you are

CrackpotsArePots · 23/09/2018 11:02

Johndoe10 · 23/09/2018 11:12

Tiggy you haven’t actually read the board have you? Because if you did, you would see how massively mistaken you are.

Tbh it’s insulting. Just read what the posts are actually about.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 23/09/2018 11:14

Tigbot or too busy doing his homework?

Onemorefortheroad · 23/09/2018 11:26

Haven't read all comments here but can see where OP is coming from. I had a look at some of the feminist threads on here and it's full of posts about trans people. I understand the issues and why it's important but surely there are also other things to discuss in terms of feminism no?

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 23/09/2018 11:28

Onemorefortheroad. You could always start a thread about something else.

VickyEadie · 23/09/2018 11:30

I understand the issues and why it's important but surely there are also other things to discuss in terms of feminism no?

(a) There are threads on other feminist issues

(b) There's nothing to stop you starting more.

But here's why this is now central to discussions on here: the very definition of 'woman' is being taken away from women. And with it go all our hard-won rights and protections - all of them.

This issue is central to feminism itself.

Nagsnovalballs · 23/09/2018 11:36

Seen 5 of my team mates end up with nasty injuries from playing rugby against a transwoman. That peak transed me. Another is a student of mine who clearly has poly cystic ovaries and struggles with their body is now trans as a form of rejection and distancing from her medical problems. They might find it easier if someone gave them space to vent about the social expectations placed on female bodies regarding aesthetics, and the conditions that are uniquely female instead of encouraging them to manifest their horror in their body as being trans, which is a simple sticking plaster solution to a deep and complex mental and physical health issue

Onemorefortheroad · 23/09/2018 11:48

I could, you're absolutely right.

Happy to admit that I'm fairly 'new' to the concept of feminism and a bit of a lurker on here, so was just an observation - when Iv been looking at the feminist posts to find out more in general, an awful lot seems to be focussed on trans stuff.

MrsKCastle · 23/09/2018 11:54

Tiggy: I'm not saying a man can just say they are a woman and that be it, and that isn't how it works, at least not in the uk

It's how it works in GirlguidingUK. In TopShop changing rooms. In schools that follow the AllSorts guidance. In the NUS. In many swimming pools. In many companies. In British Gymnastics.

And it is exactly why the government is currently proposing: fill in a form and change your gender.

CrackpotsArePots · 23/09/2018 12:30
