I so enjoyed the evening and met up with a few from mumsnet.
Couple of things. At the meeting I went to the toilet with one of the security guards. When we got in past the door he looked at all the signs and asked me: 'Now which one do I go in?'
He was joking and went into the toilet for men, obviously.
Lisa, it was a pleasure to speak to you and offer you a light.
Regarding the conflation of the GRA passing in Ireland and the passing of the overturn of the eighth amendment in Ireland. This is what I wanted to say:
'Don't you dare conflate the two. As a mere slip of a lass, a student in Galway Uni, I campaigned against the amendment in 1982. Several decades, a few more referendums later, it was overturned. Whilst my heart sang with joy, it reminded me how long it takes for women to introduce change.
The GRA in Ireland was passed without hesitation, deliberation and most importantly public consultation. Just like that! '
However, Anne and the woman from Ireland were brilliant in their response.
