Given how much recent news has been horrifying I thought some of us could do with a laugh, so hear you go - Robert Smith's eyeliner is oppressive to people who want everyone to know that wearing makeup means you're a woman.

Oh ffs AAK I just spat my pepsi max all over my keyboard......

dolorsit · 03/09/2018 23:43

My pronouns are Angst and Despair.

I think we have a winner! Grin

BeyondAnOmnishambles · 03/09/2018 23:46

Got it. AAK appears to be enjoying angstself a bit much here though imo - can I be the first to suggest “fake goth!”
Hang on - are you Cathy Brennan?!

AngryAttackKittens · 03/09/2018 23:47

(Sways in place morosely and calls it dancing)

Oh the comments, the comments Grin

"For those feeling stress from being labelled or invisibled, walk around in a fursuit for a while. Nobody can tell if you're male, female, cis, trans or anything. Nobody can tell if you're black, white, yellow, red, green or burnt sienna. Nobody can tell if you're wealthy or poor. Nobody can know anything except what you present by your actions.

This is why some people react so strongly against fursuiters, because they can't get an instant read on the persons identity. But kids get it. They see a fursuit and immediately break into a smile and ask for a hug. They accept what they see.

Once I was at the fursuit parade explaining all this to a bemused non-furry. He asked, "Is that person male or female?"

I had to reply, "That person is a cheetah. The person under the cheetah could be either.""

hipsterfun · 03/09/2018 23:49

By the time I realized I was queer and nonbinary, I had called myself a goth for over a decade.

Isn’t your mid-twenties usually when you start getting the fuck over yourself, instead of writing articles so self-absorbed that nobody can be sure they’re not parody?

Seriously, kiddo, you really need to get a grip before the big three-oh strikes please tell me this person isn’t over 30

BeyondAnOmnishambles · 03/09/2018 23:54

I don’t know a single goth-gendered person who isn’t “Queer” or non-binary. They both kinda come with the territory.

NoSuchThingAsAlpha · 03/09/2018 23:56

Goth top tip: if you want your gender identity to be clear, don't be a goth.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/09/2018 23:58

(Announces gender, stands there awaiting big dramatic reaction)

Goths - Mate, we're goths. This is about as much of a reaction as you're going to get.

I met one yesterday Beyond, a Swedish one no less. He definitely wasn't non-binary. I could tell by the codpiece!

I have a picture, not sure if posting it might get the thread deleted though......

GlomOfNit · 04/09/2018 00:00

Oh god, this thread has lifted my spirits so much! Grin

WTF sort of Goth name is Zoe, anyway?

picklemepopcorn · 04/09/2018 06:13

I read it several times trying to work out in what way Zoe was non binary, and how on Earth anyone was supposed to notice. Bless.

Angst and despair work really well as pronouns. Perhaps trans pronouns for non goths could be injured and piteous.

picklemepopcorn · 04/09/2018 06:17

Actually, affronted and hurt.

sportinguista · 04/09/2018 07:18

Oh dear, they just sound like the ones we used to avoid because they took themselves waaaay too seriously, like the one who used to insist people called him 'Count Dave'. Was a goth, still am as far as real life will allow these days and being 47 too. Knew loads of guys with eyeliner etc, only 1 out of hundreds was trans, non binary would have been chalked down to thinking you were a computer perhaps. Most of the goths I knew were out to have a good time and that was about it, anyone who took themselves too seriously soon found themselves on their own.

picklemepopcorn · 04/09/2018 07:21

I think men look great in eye liner.

”For those feeling stress from being labelled or invisibled, walk around in a fursuit for a while.”

Indeed, everyone should be entitled to life, liberty and the fursuit of happiness.

catkind · 04/09/2018 14:57

I think I have the solution: everyone, goth or not, should be obliged to go around with a blue or pink colour flash in their hair according to gender identity. Save all that guessing. No more precious flowers keeling over from being misgendered. And we'd have a proper definition of woman at last: human with pink colour flash.

AngryAttackKittens · 04/09/2018 22:08

Count Dave! I knew one who had artificial fangs made. He used to wear them to clubs.

Wanders into thread moodily.

BettyDuMonde · 05/09/2018 00:20

My friends were goths but it was way too-labour intense a look for me.

One of my friends once ran out of talc so used his mum’s flour to get his rubber trousers on.

3 hours of swaying at the indie disco later, plus a 8-goths-in-my-mum’s-hatchback ride home, and he found the flour had mixed with sweat and turned to glue, which had subsequently hardened in the cold night air.

He had to soak his trousers off his legs in the bath. True story.

FloralBunting · 05/09/2018 00:20

This thread is a joy. In a chipped black nail-paint, dyed black hair in my line of vision sort of way.

The article is all so petulantly 'Stop looking at me! WHY ARENT YOU LOOKING AT ME?!!!'

M3lon · 05/09/2018 00:21

I've spent actual time today wondering to what extent I am transphobic for not believing toys/clothes etc. have a gender, or that people convicted of sex crimes should be setting the agenda on self-ID and female spaces for the green party....when all along I am transphobic for working in STEM, wearing jeans and a T-shirt with no make up while failing to identify as a man.

I give up.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/09/2018 00:23

Sometimes if you try to just pull the trousers off anyway they take all your hair with them, I have been informed. Impromptu waxing.
