This has been going on for years. Every now and then there is another article written or another news report, like there was on Scottish news last night.

The police know about it
The social workers know about it
The Children's panel know about it
The press know about it
The politicians know about it
The people of Glasgow know about it
The people of Govanhill see it evry day and many continue to report it, but yet nothing happens.
This is Nicola Sturgeon's constituency

It's Rotherham all over again, except here these children are often being sold by their own parents. Parents who do not care if their daughters skip school, because they are girls. Girls are referred to the Children's panel, but the parents don't attend, because they don't care. They see no point in sending girls to school, educating girls. Girls are only good for one thing. And they are sold in the streets of Glasgow.

It's a scandal that this is happening in plain sight.

This is the Government who are proposing NAMED PERSON legislation, where every child in Scotland will have a named person who can intervene and overrule a parent's authority. This authoritarian proposal is being pushed as 'progressive'. Yet the authorities will not take actions against parents who are clearly neglecting, abusing and prostituting their children NOW. The government has that power now and they are choosing not to take action.

The Scottish Government is a disgrace. They come up with all manner of 'progressive' proposals yet they allow the rape of children on the streets of Glasgow.

The children will soon be labelled 'sex workers' and the Guardian and Amnesty's work will be done

Safeguarding must rank first. Above worry of accusations of racism or any other ism/phobia. Organisations should be able to fulfil their primary function and still build community relations at the same time.

Strongly agree with both of these. The people purchasing and despoiling the children seem to be invisible in some narratives.

Trafficked girls and women, we aren't clear of the ages. Men running it are of a different country/culture. Police are called time after time, not interested.
Personally, I've been accused of being a racist and a bigot after raising concerns by both a social worker and police implied it.
Safeguarding has to be Universal, once exemptions/excuses are made for certain groups, oppressed or otherwise, that's when you start seeing perps and predators come through.

I've worked in this sort of area for coming on to a couple of decades. Even if stuff gets to Court and its laughably small, the conviction rate takes the piss.
The only thing the Justice system seems to give a monkeys fuck about is crimes involving money.

Well it was all set up from male establishment POV around crime against property.

This is not a recent thing. All those who say it was a great community in the 80s and 90s are deluded, I lived and went to school there and left because I was sick of being harassed by Asian men (I lived on Allison st).
I also had many family members who worked in the social work department who were overwhelmed by the sexual exploitation of children, especially those already in care in the many children’s homes in polloksheilds.
I now work with academics who are doing a lot of research on the Roma community and trying to tackle myths about them and how integration can be improved. But, there is also an unspoken rule that questions over child sex abuse is not to be touched very much like the situation in Rochdale, it’s very frustrating.

The thing is, no matter who the community are and where you’re talking about this is going on. Not one politician or police force can change this. This can only stop when OUR culture changes and let’s men know that no matter your ethnicity, wealth, social status you will be held accountable for sexual exploitation, abuse and violence against women and children.
