Children raped and trafficked in plain sight on the streets of Glasgow

www.heraldscotland.com/news/12766853.The_Child_Sex_Scandal_On_The_Streets_Of_Scotland/

This has been going on for years. Every now and then there is another article written or another news report, like there was on Scottish news last night.

The police know about it
The social workers know about it
The Children's panel know about it
The press know about it
The politicians know about it
The people of Glasgow know about it
The people of Govanhill see it evry day and many continue to report it, but yet nothing happens.
This is Nicola Sturgeon's constituency

It's Rotherham all over again, except here these children are often being sold by their own parents. Parents who do not care if their daughters skip school, because they are girls. Girls are referred to the Children's panel, but the parents don't attend, because they don't care. They see no point in sending girls to school, educating girls. Girls are only good for one thing. And they are sold in the streets of Glasgow.

It's a scandal that this is happening in plain sight.

This is the Government who are proposing NAMED PERSON legislation, where every child in Scotland will have a named person who can intervene and overrule a parent's authority. This authoritarian proposal is being pushed as 'progressive'. Yet the authorities will not take actions against parents who are clearly neglecting, abusing and prostituting their children NOW. The government has that power now and they are choosing not to take action.

The Scottish Government is a disgrace. They come up with all manner of 'progressive' proposals yet they allow the rape of children on the streets of Glasgow.

It’s just awful and as others have said widely known about for years.

VeryBerryAugust · 01/09/2018 16:10

Clicking on through his articles I found Kevin using the phrase "new right platitudes" about Jordan Peterson. That did make me smile.

Kevin seems a self consciously Niceguy but rather platitudinous himself.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/09/2018 16:14

I was going to complain to Police Scotland about the cloth eared comments about "child prostitution" from Superintendent Dean compared to the (so spot on I want to give him a hug) comments from the local resident Jim Miller, who correctly described what he saw as child rape, but the online complaint form doesn't cater for that.

I am away from home at the moment and don't have access to anything which could print a letter.

I don't tweet or Facebook but would it be possible for someone else to tweet this point? I assume Police Scotland tweets.

hackmum · 01/09/2018 16:21

Being racist is morally worse than raping children - that seems to be the logic.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 01/09/2018 16:24

The Guardian can just Fuck Off. 'Lurid'?? Fuck off

LadybirdsAreBirds · 01/09/2018 16:24

"I was almost hysterical by this point," said Miller. "I'd just seen a child being raped in broad daylight."

LemonJello · 01/09/2018 16:43

Certainly, the claims of child sex abuse, no matter how threadbare, need to be investigated. Let’s just hope that these are not merely being used to mask something sinister.

This, from Kevin McKenna, is unconscionable. That this would be your take on CSE allegations really beggars belief.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/09/2018 16:55

I feel like mary whitehouse

the "liberals " (who only seem interested in being more liberal with where men can stick their cocks) and the leftybros (who bang on about awful capitalism, all work is coerced etc etc but for ONE "job" >> prostitution where it's totes empowering and great and not a single one of them is capable of applying the analysis they apply to everything else to it)
are pushing hard to remove boundaries and increase male sexual access to all sorts of people

Mary Whitehouse and Germaine Greer both did a great disservice to the concept of morality in the 70s. Whitehouse with her OTT frothing and Greer with her super cool, oh so blasé attitude ( eg watching the Animal Farm video was no big deal)

Morality in the context of sex is now twisted to being "anti- sex" . That isn't what sexual morality means- it should mean treating your sexual partners (whether it is your spouse of 30 years or the person you met in a club and don't expect to see again) with dignity and respect and a concern for their enjoyment too (and obviously not cheating or knowingly passing on STDs)

Elllicam · 01/09/2018 17:08

This is horrific, I used to live near here and it was never like this. Why aren’t the police arresting more of these people, they clearly aren’t aiming at the top if they are arresting 16 year olds.

welshmist · 01/09/2018 17:30

Cannot find out much about Kevin McKenna by googling so have no idea if he has children. I know the Guardian is liberal but this is moving them into murky waters. It is the first time I personally have seen a nod towards thinking what is happening is OK in the media. It does make you wonder.

53rdWay · 01/09/2018 17:46

We need a Victorian moral panic imho

yes, I’d be fine with this. Say what you will about Victorian prudishness, at least they finally raised the age of consent to 16 after the Pall Mall Gazette ran an investigation about children being sold into prostitution and there was a big public uproar ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Maiden_Tribute_of_Modern_Babylon )

(although even then - the issue was known about for years, reformers like the feminist anti-prostitution campaigner Josephine Butler who was part of that undercover investigation had been banging the drum on this for years, but it took lurid newspaper reports the general public read before the law got changed.)

NothingOnTellyAgain · 01/09/2018 18:02

YY although plenty of push at the moment to try and return to framing those who disagree with fucking kids as "prudes".

Other threads on here at moment give info

It's PIE all over again

Meanwhile, the "authorities" repeatedly fail to act with csa / cse as they don't see the victims as victims really ("child prostitutes" keeps coming up), they see them as scum essentially (poor / not going to amount to anything anyway) and going after the people exploiting them seems / feels a bit tricky and complicated and may make them unpopular in some circles (e.g with that bloke in the Guardian).

practicallyperfectinmyway · 01/09/2018 18:05

I've been away from Glasgow for 25 odd years. I travelled through Govanhill every day, down Vicky rd. I was back there last month and the area is so run-down now. Furniture dumped on the pavement, all male groups congregated on street corners, rubbish piled up, tenement flats in disrepair with most likely overcrowding and absent landlords.

As for the points raised above, SS and Police Scotland need to pull together all knowledge and resources to make arrests & jail time for the ring-leaders. Beggars belief this is Glasgow in 2018. Feel desperately for the young girls.

It's not racist to hold people to account for the trafficking, abuse, exploitation and rape of children, no matter what race the offenders are.

It is racist however to fail to protect girls because they are of a particular race, which is what is happening here. I don't understand why the authorities (and idiots like that Guardian jouno) who claim to be concerned about racism are prepared to turn a blind eye to abuse of children which is happening not just because they are girls but also because they are Roma. There is no way in earth they would accept their own privileged non Roma daughters being sold into sexual slavery. This is the real racism here.

It's like people who won't criticise FGM because they don't want to appear culturally imperialistic. All that says is it's ok for black African girls to be mutilated but not their own white, middle class daughters.

littlbrowndog · 01/09/2018 18:29

About 31 mins in for Glasgow

Whole vid is shocking

dementedma · 01/09/2018 18:33

Jim Miller admits to seeing a young child being raped in front of him...and went off to find a police officer. No doubt the correct and safe thing to do but there is no way I would have been unable to stop myself from physically intervening, while screaming blue murder and raising as much noise as possible.Even if the men had run off, the child would have been saved. not the recommended course of action, i know, but I don't think I coul dhave turned my back and walked out of that close

littlbrowndog · 01/09/2018 18:38

The price fo4 a girl being trafficked for sex abuse is 1- 2000 euros

Sick to my stomach. So so

Gronky · 01/09/2018 18:41

I find it hard to blame the parents because they are living in such poverty that it might be the difference between eating and not. The blame seems to me to rest entirely with those creating such a vile market in the first place and sustaining it.

AndYetItMoves · 01/09/2018 18:42

This is horrifying. I feel like nothing I thought I knew is real.

ToeToToe · 01/09/2018 18:44

Erm, I don't think there's a single thing in the universe that would make me prostitute my own child (or any child)... but ok...

However, I agree with you about the creation of such a vile market, and as usual it is created and perpetuated by vile men.

Which is why women and children need such strong safeguarding protections in the first place.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/09/2018 18:47

I find it hard to blame the parents because they are living in such poverty that it might be the difference between eating and not

I don't find it in the least bit difficult to blame the parents. I don't believe for one minute it is a choice between allowing one's child to be raped and starving. Obviously the rapists are as vile as you will find but so are the parents

ScrambledSmeggs · 01/09/2018 18:50

Horrific, poor children Sad

terryleather · 01/09/2018 19:02

I agree with Lass here, that's just insulting to people in poverty to say that it would be understandable to pimp your children - I'm sorry but I don't see how there could ever be a good enough reason to do that and I can't believe I'm actually having to say this.
