Previous thread here:

Will post links to AC's public statement and Caroline Lucas's appalling white wash job in a moment, but for me, Andrew Gilligan nails it yet again:

oops. sorry, didn't see it had already been posted.

The seat does look safe, she's got a 15,000 majority but that was based on the LDs not standing a candidate too

Ahh. I thought if she was stepping down as a leader she was done with the whole thing. Didn't realise she was going to stay as an MP. I seem to remember either the Lib Dem or the Greens (lower down the ranks, not the top people) grumbling a lot in comments in the Guardian about not standing candidates for the sake of other parties after the last election. Depending on how this plays out, maybe the Lib Dem's will chance their arm if they think they can swipe a seat to make up for the ones they lost at the last GE.

EverardDigby · 31/08/2018 17:33

I think Caroline is in a very difficult position. Look at her language in The Guardian - "My party has long recognised that trans women are women and trans men are men" - it's not actually saying this is her belief, but in Brighton she would get so much grief for saying anything different. But that still doesn't excuse the dreadful article, she would have been better staying quiet (like Jonathan Bartley).

Aimee's statement

This Lunchtime I was informed I have been given a “no-fault” suspension by the Green Party of England and Wales so that an investigation could be carried out. I tweeted on the 28th of August my support of their investigation, and that I am working with it.
This remains the same, I will continue to cooperate with the Investigation, and hope that the Green Party will continue to work with me through this time.

I want to thank everyone who has sent me their support, from sitting Labour Councillors, to Young Liberals, to Young Greens, to those in the Green Party who stand by my side. I am thankful. I am saddened to see circumstances have forced me away from the Greens at a crucial point for our party, though I remain fully committed to our shared Green values of Environmental and Social Justice.

I hope that the Investigation is able to run efficiently, so that we can all move forward together.

theOtherPamAyres · 31/08/2018 17:40

The 'no fault' thing is a bit laboured. David Challoner's trial started from the same principle (ie not guilty).

I just don't see what was so difficult for Caroline Lucas. All she had to say was something along the lines of, 'This is absolutely horrific and we will not rest until we have got to the bottom of it. If we find that anyone in the Green Party has colluded in covering up for the child rapist and torturer, David Challeonor then they will be severely dealt with. We will also look into our safeguarding systems and ensure lessons are learned.'

She didn't even need to mention Aimee being trans.

RedToothBrush · 31/08/2018 17:50

Wouldn't at all surprise me if 'Anonymous Angry Green', was Caroline herself or the silent Bartley

CesiraAndEnrico · 31/08/2018 17:56

RedToothBrush

Well that would put the cat among the pigeons.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 31/08/2018 18:02

I still think the offer for mumsnet to run the inquiry should stand. And that way you might not have to have four stabs at working out what self-serving conclusion will lose you the fewest votes.

CesiraAndEnrico · 31/08/2018 18:15

Might be something, might be nothing. Might just be about a tweet he (the jouno) made earlier.

But I think Big Greens might not be wholly sanguine about Aimee possibly looking to go off piste alone so soon after a temp. suspension and the release of Aimee's own statement.

Sarahconnor1 · 31/08/2018 18:18

Aimee asking to direct message the political correspondent at the guardian. Wanting to control the narrative?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/08/2018 18:24

Why has Aimee got someone else writing their statements now?

TwistedStitch · 31/08/2018 18:24

So an inquiry will take place but some senior greens have already defended AC to the hilt, calling anyone questioning things haters and trolls. I wonder how independent this investigation will really be.

WomblingWoman · 31/08/2018 18:46

CL and senior Greens knew about TerfBlocker....

Green Party thread 3
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/08/2018 18:48

I just saw that too Wombling - I find it hard to believe that they actively chose to do nothing about it Shock

thecatfromjapan · 31/08/2018 18:54

So, is it possible that the Internal Comms department have been .... erm ... running without a leash for some time?

Did they fully inform CL of all the issues in play before that Guardian statement?

Poor CL. I looked at her Wiki entry. She seems to have been central in the drive that turned the Greens from an earnest fringe to a credible -seeming Party.

CL's main focus seems to be more on the economic, ecological side of things (though I'm sure she cares deeply for social justice).

It would be sad if it was the 'new era social justice' issues that blew a hole in what was primarily an ecologically-focused Party.

(And goodness knows, we need focus on issues such as global warming).

arranfan · 31/08/2018 19:02

Would a parody conspiracy theory version of all this be that Big Oil is the shadow funder of all this, precisely to discredit Green parties? Overrun them with SJW and bring the movement into disrepute? Wink

heresyandwitchcraft · 31/08/2018 19:25

Whoa....
One question: did the Greens use the Blocklist on official Party accounts?
Wouldn't this be discriminatory to constituents/voters/Green Party registered members and directly contravene said democratic principles?
(This same question extends to other official parties/organisations.)

CesiraAndEnrico · 31/08/2018 20:11

I'm assuming the bio has been updated to exclude former mentions of Rising Green Star jobs. So that leaves Stonewall and Global Greens dragging their heels behind the pack.

Dragging of heels behind the Green Party proper is starting to look like a very slow response time indeed at this point.

Green Party thread 3
heresyandwitchcraft · 31/08/2018 20:26

Hmmm... What is Stonewall going to do about all of this?

Natsku · 31/08/2018 20:27

Been reading this threads but haven't been able to catch up until now but just want to say thank you to everyone for these threads. The backlash the green party has received has clearly made a difference.

MnerXX · 31/08/2018 20:35

It’s good that they’re doing something but not holding out much hope that it would be as thorough as a MN enquiry!

Natsku · 31/08/2018 20:38

Well obviously a MN enquiry would be much more thorough, no need to protect a woke image here!
