If they had a shred of integrity they wouldn't even be thinking about votes right now.

RedToothBrush · 29/08/2018 08:14

I feel a bit bad for Caroline Lucas here. If she supports Aimee, she will lose he public' support, but if she doesn't support Aimee, she loses the trans vote.

What do you think the job of a leader of a political party is? Its to resolve serious party conflicts and controveries such as this and to show some leadership over them...

... looks around at Labour and the Conservatives ...

...well thats supposed to be their job but I can appreciate why you might be confused and unaware of this!

RedToothBrush · 29/08/2018 08:16

How many people are single- issue voters on this who will only vote for a party that supports self-ID? The people who fit that description are exceptionally vocal, but I'm not convinced that there are very many of them.

Willing to bet there will be a lot of Green Party members very disgusted about the animal cruelty issue and standing for the party. Less divisive.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/08/2018 08:28

It's been lost in the shuffle given the importance of focusing on the child abuse part of this mess, but seriously, how does the Green Party justify using as their local headquarters a house where the residents had been banned from keeping pets due to animal cruelty convictions?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 29/08/2018 08:35

I think anybody primarily assessing these events in terms of political capital rather than an urge to immediately address the systemic failures that allowed their organisation to enable a child rapist can fottfsofatfosm

Floisme · 29/08/2018 08:36

Exactly.

theOtherPamAyres · 29/08/2018 09:24

I had a feeling that ACs career in the Green Party would be finished by the Cruelty to Animals that took place at the Challoner house.

The party is home to people who have this single issue and are not interested in much else.

The main difference between the animal and the trans lobby groups is that trans people and their supporters have managed to get themselves into positions of influence. They have seats on the Executive with portfolios, positions in the Young Greens and Green Women - and, more importantly the ear of the Leaders.

raisinsraisins · 29/08/2018 09:33

So angry at the BBC not prominently reporting this, as this is the main website read by a wide variety of people.

Today their headline story is that a quarter of girls self harm, in part due to gender issues! Yet they won’t explore these issues in any depth at all.

RedToothBrush · 29/08/2018 09:35

As a country we do not have a good record on which of these two we prioritise first.

The thing I have in my mind is that the Victorians introduced laws to legislate against animal cruelty before they introduced laws to tackle cruelty against children.

Victorian morality at the time with regard to children was held back by the notions that children could consent / were free to leave if they wished / belonged to parents and laws interfered with the authority of the head of the house / the state should not interfer in private matters, whereas animals were just helpless and at the mercy of their owners.

It took more work to point out and establish the vulnerability of children and the need for safeguarding.

raisinsraisins · 29/08/2018 09:36

The cruelty to animals may have happened while AC was not living in the house? I’m not sure when she came back to live with her parents?

RedToothBrush · 29/08/2018 09:41

The cruelty to animals may have happened while AC was not living in the house? I’m not sure when she came back to live with her parents?

Chain of events.

If the greens had known about the animal cruelty, then DC and TC should have been thrown out the party then and there.

The situation with AC would never have arisen in the first place.

Because they missed a huge issue, the party left themselves exposed to an even bigger one.

theOtherPamAyres · 29/08/2018 09:43

The Green party has to square the fact that at least one Challenor was a candidate for local council elections after being convicted of crimes involving the mistreatment of animals.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/08/2018 09:46

In terms of all of the crimes committed by DC, in what way does not actually being in the house at the time absolve AC of responsibility? If you hire someone to be your campaign manager/photographer/whatever after the event and fail to inform your party of the crimes then you're complicit even if you were in a different location when they happened.

Amalfimamma · 29/08/2018 09:56

The cruelty to animals may have happened while AC was not living in the house

The police came to arrest young Aimee for the anonymous video, saw the state of the house and called rscpa so on the same day Aimee was arrested for cyber terrorism kids were taken into care and animals were taken out of the house.

OrchidInTheSun · 29/08/2018 10:06

Case against Tina and David for animal cruelty (they were both convicted) was heard in December 2012. Ashton was arrested in February 2013.

Amalfimamma · 29/08/2018 10:08

In terms of all of the crimes committed by DC, in what way does not actually being in the house at the time absolve AC of responsibility

Ac was resident when all crimes were committed

theOtherPamAyres · 29/08/2018 10:08

When did Tina stand for election to the council?

Anyone recall?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/08/2018 10:10

Do you have to have a DBS check to be an election agent? If so, then DC's conviction for animal cruelty would have shown up and Aimee should have declared it even if she wasn't aware of it.
The Green Party are behaving appallingly over this. They are minimising the rape and torture of a small child by one of their election agents and still haven't come out with a statement acknowledging the severity of the situation.

OrchidInTheSun · 29/08/2018 10:18

Both Aimee and Tina stood for election as councillors in May this year. David was election agent for both of them (as Baloo)

theOtherPamAyres · 29/08/2018 10:41

The Green Party person holding the Animals portfolio is an MEP , Keith Taylor @GreenKeithMEP.

Is he comfortable with the fact that a person convicted of offences against animals stood on the green party ticket?

Amalfimamma - thanks, I wasn’t sure of the timeline for this.

Can you believ this thread?

BraveAndStunning · 29/08/2018 10:57

Why did DC receive bail? And why did it take three years to bring him to trial? And why were organisations such as the girl Guides not informed? But some did, like Coventry Pride. Why is it only women asking these questions?

arranfan · 29/08/2018 10:57

Allowing AC to remain in this role is sending all sorts of messages.

You cannot demand "privacy for me and my disabled mum" and remain in public life, fulfilling a senior role for a national political party.

What is Caroline Lucas doing? Are they waiting until after the election closes?

raisinsraisins · 29/08/2018 10:57

Nothing I can see on Keith Taylor’s Twitter regarding this.

Only thing I can see is that he liked a tweet that refers to bullying of “21 year old trans woman who spent her teenage years in care because the father with whom she was only recently reunited committed horrific crimes”.

So they are all going along with the “recently reunited”.
