Going on in Somerset this weekend. They advertise it as FEMALE only, then this is on their fucking website.

My first thought was "what rotten timing, tomorrow's going to be a wash-out". But having read that, my next thought was "meh".

NoProbLlama78 · 25/08/2018 10:54

aside from the female energy in a male body or whatever, how can they possibly exclude transmen? there's no way of telling if a born woman identifies as male unless they say.

Popchyk · 25/08/2018 10:59

So they welcome some biological women, but not others.

Some biological men, but not others.

And some non-binary people but not others.

Because "we have to draw the line somewhere". Grin

Any of you lot going? You could update us live on here.

thisonebreath · 25/08/2018 11:02

How would they be involved in all the yoni activities. 🤔

And on another note, why is a woman's festival automatically filled with woo bollox? In the words of Donna Haraway: 'I'd rather be a cyborg than a goddess'

AssortedPhenomena · 25/08/2018 11:03

however, if you are non binary but grew up being treated as a woman because of your physical body...

This is really fucking transphobic. Bodies have nothing to do with whether people are men or women. Women are treated as women because of their female gender identity. Angry

Fairenuff · 25/08/2018 11:03

It's very limited. Who actually can attend?

No men, no transmen, no transwomen with male bodies, no transwomen that don't look fully female.

I think what they are trying to say is 'women only' but of course they have to try and clarify what a women is. Very clumsy.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 25/08/2018 11:04

I can see why they would want to exclude male energy in male body. (Think of all of the work that wouldn't be done) But why include female energy in a male body yet exclude male energy in a female body? Is it the energy that's doing the work, not the body?

I have no energy, male or female in my body, therefore I'm cruelly excluded from this event. Sad

FeminaSum · 25/08/2018 11:06

how can they possibly exclude transmen? there's no way of telling if a born woman identifies as male unless they say.

Maybe they can just tell, because a transman has male energy in a female body and that male energy will disrupt everything!!!

It's as if they started from an essentialist cultural feminist/goddess spirituality position, and were just like, oh well, if that man says he's a woman he must have female energy. Biology and socialisation mean nothing. I used to be in those circles as a young woman but even then I liked a bit of logic with my woo. Wink

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/08/2018 11:06

I'd forgotten about this. There was a long and rather funny thread about it. Did no one volunteer to attend and report back?

FloralBunting · 25/08/2018 11:10

I love a bit of woo as much as the next person (and not because I actually believe it, purely because I enjoy the general Glastonbury aesthetic) but I really, really, really don't understand the appeal of steaming my fanny over herbs.

I'm happy to steam chicken breast and herbs, maybe some veg, but my fanjo gets clammy enough without doing it deliberately with added oregano.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/08/2018 11:12

What on earth does "fully " identify as a woman mean?

Are they trying to say old style trans sexuals with genital surgery only? But they can't actually say that?

Of course anyone can say "I fully identify as a women" even while dressed as a blokey 90s oasis fan and shouting "look at the tits on that" straight afterwards, nevking a beer, throwing the can at someone and then going and pissing at a tree in full sight of everyone. Who is anyone else to say they do not identify as fully female?

Urbanbeetler · 25/08/2018 11:13

It’s the worst of all worlds, offending both radical feminists and trans people. You either let trans women in or you don’t- how can you differentiate? Who is going to test every male bodied person who comes to see if their mans energy is too strong or if they are girlie enough. Fucks sake.

thisonebreath · 25/08/2018 11:13

I have a feeling steaming my fanny would result in burns. I'm 37 weeks pregnant, I'm about to put it through enough punishment without adding second degree burns into the mix.

Albadross · 25/08/2018 11:13

Assorted are you being sarcastic?

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 25/08/2018 11:13

Fucking hell. So men in, women out at women fest! Great.

Mrskeats · 25/08/2018 11:14

What a pile of gobbledegook

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/08/2018 11:17

I had some clickbait about this and pressed. The woman who ? started it said a lot of women do it to help with heavy periods.

The doc was poo poohing it as the herbs have no medicinal value.

But it thought, maybe having your nethers warmed can help with that period stuff. Getting in a hot bath is a common thing to suggest after all.

And anyway they aren't hurting anyone, placebo effect is real, if they feel like it helps then have at it I say!

Mrbatmun · 25/08/2018 11:17

The tripping over themselves to be inclusive whilst also having to keep the exclusive nature because that's their USP is fucking hilarious! I bet whoever wrote that needed a lie down afterwards.

Datun · 25/08/2018 11:18

Oh dear. They're going to get lambasted from every single side.

FloralBunting · 25/08/2018 11:22

There's quite a significant difference between dunking your body in a big bath of hot, clean water and crouching over herby steam.

But then I don't really like saunas and sweating and all that, so I think that's probably related.

FeminaSum · 25/08/2018 11:22

What on earth does "fully " identify as a woman mean?

I think you're being slightly optimistic thinking that they might mean old-style transsexuals only, since they say that 'male bodies' are fine, and presumably, according to the ideology, those people now have female bodies.

I think it's to exclude male non-binaries, Pippa Bunce-style part-time "women", and other special varieties of genderist.

Compare it to the more 'inclusive' policy of a feminist society which will not be named but has events for: "self-defined women and those who have sometimes identified as women or sometimes been identified by others as women" which would include all of the above.

GenderApostate · 25/08/2018 11:23

It really is top level insanity.

Just the place for the type of AGP narcissists who a. Love to make Women uncomfortable and b. Crave ultimate validation.

Exactly my thoughts - so the way I read it, I he only group that would definitely be refused entry on arrival to this women only event are trans men, who are biologically women. Fucked up.
