Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Antifeminist movement...

Spinflight · 21/08/2018 13:52

Seems to be gathering pace, faster than any other movement that I can recall..

Red Pill, MRAs, blogs and youtube channels seem to be springing up aplenty.

Can we put all of this down to misogyny or admit some failings of feminist thought?

OP posts:
LangCleg · 21/08/2018 18:46

Nutella hot chocolate: stick Nutella and milk in pan. Whisk. Heat. Bloody gorgeous.

Beamur · 21/08/2018 18:46

My DH would eat Weetabix with butter on but has too much self control to allow himself to do so.
After a long train journey recently with much discussion about the benefits of more plant based foods my chum suggested I try porridge made with chocolate soy milk. I haven't tried it yet. Any thoughts on chocolate milk/soy milk on cereal?

LangCleg · 21/08/2018 18:47

lang, if it's any consolation, my ears always prick up if the word horror is added to food.

This is why I love you, Datun.

TornFromTheInside · 21/08/2018 18:51

I thought an anti-feminest movement was when TRA's ate too many prunes.

Pywife2 · 21/08/2018 18:53

Maybe it's because we're doing the feministing right! Ever think of that, OP?

Bound to cause a backlash. Bit like spreading butter on your Weetabix and dipping it in whisky or whatever that was someone's been doing...

sociopathsunited · 21/08/2018 18:54

Well, I WAS hungry, till people mentioned nutella. What, in the name of the wee man, makes that vomititious substance appealing? Then again, I like Marmite.....

Vive la difference!

terryleather · 21/08/2018 18:55

And now my world crumbles as I contemplate the fact that the mighty Datun may in actual fact be a Notorious Weetabix Banana Horror lover...woe, woe and thrice woe!

tobee · 21/08/2018 18:56

I like cornflakes made soggy by warm milk. Best of all was a bowl of freshly opened cornflakes with top of the milk. But you don't get top of the milk anymore. Sad

Datun · 21/08/2018 19:11

terryleather

In my defence, I haven't actually eaten it.

Although, being a bourbon and whiskey fan, this caught my attention

Bit like spreading butter on your Weetabix and dipping it in whisky

I do wonder, if I could just dispense with the 'it's not good for you' ringing in my ears, quite what is I might do with food and alcohol, tbh.

louiseaaa · 21/08/2018 19:16

Otoh.. a balearic breakfast when camping/festivalling is red wine and cornflakes

Yum

terryleather · 21/08/2018 19:24

I'd take Buttered Whisky Weetabix over the horror-that-shall-not-be-named any day of the week Datun...but then I am scottish Grin

Datun · 21/08/2018 19:26

Buttered Whiskey Weetabix

🤣

bd67th · 21/08/2018 19:39

I suspect a distinct lack of good faith from the OP.

For the lurkers:
I would vote for misogyny. One contributing factor to misogyny is modern porn. The porn that young men consume gets ever-more abusive and violent, whilst, women, having options other than "try to marry well", get ever-pickier and more willing to bail out of an abusive marriage. Result: you have a bunch of men who are conditioned to believe that the world owes then a pretty, submissive, female fuck toy whose injuries and tears of distress they can disregard and that women have no other value, whilst women en masse are rejecting men with those attitudes because we can now do so without starving. Hence the men are bitter and blame feminism, when in fact they should blame porn. The increasing popularity of websites like No Fap and Your Brain On Porn would indicate that men can and do realise the harm that porn is doing to them, their sexuality, and their attitudes towards women, and can choose to "detox".

It has all the necessary food groups:
Fats
Carbs
Alcohol
😏

arranfan · 21/08/2018 19:47

That sounds more like a building material than a foodstuff

It does, indeed, have to be consumed within seconds. There is a critical window beyond which it turns to mortar. It has to be said that I was brought up on porridge or ground wheat both made with water so I am accustomed to such substances and the need to swallow them before they start to set.

A big bowl of granola and lemon curd yoghurt is beyond amazing if you chop a juicy ripe peach into the mix. Just sayin'......

white knuckles as I recall just how very fragile my teeth are
I must not eat granola. x 100 or to be engraved on every bit of cutlery (as if I wouldn't eat granola neat, by the handful from whatever contains it).

Beamur · 21/08/2018 19:52

Pywife2
Yes, I think this ' backlash' could be because the feministing is working.

AllDayBreakfast · 21/08/2018 20:00

Having lurked on this forum for a while I've seen a few of these types of threads. They usually end up going on about Tumblr feminists and 'misandry' - although with a fair few feminist orgs supporting the trans lobby (Everyday Feminism I think was one) they might also be referring to that type of thing instead.

AllDayBreakfast · 21/08/2018 20:02

...and it has to be harvest crunch and yogurt. Much crisper than muesli!

silentcrow · 21/08/2018 20:05

I, too, am a fan of the concrete porrage made with water and coated in brown sugar. The slight dampening of weetabix with hot milk. The barely-there dressing of milk on crunchy nut cornflakes, and the sticky lump of peanut butter and honey in a blob of thick Greek yoghurt.

What I can't fathom is juice on cornflakes.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/08/2018 20:05

Yup. Feminism liberates women, men want to put us back in our boxes. I'm not sure there's really been an upswing in misogyny due to the successes of feminism ... it never went away. And now it has new tech platforms so some aspects are more obvious.

I had oatbran, cinnamon and banana porridge for lunch. It was ok, but weetabix would have been nicer than oatbran.

arranfan · 21/08/2018 20:31

That sounds like a positively Lucullan repast compared to oat fibre muffins* (the current breakfast/lunch accompaniment du jour (edits explanation as to why). Oat fibre is almost 100% non-soluble fibre. The fibre is from the husk/hull of the oat, not the groats. There is not the slightest hint of oat taste. Functional food at its most functional while remaining within just about tolerable limits...

*These cheery, life-affirming oat fibre muffins are oat fibre, a smidgen of coconut fibre, egg white, water and salt. 23g of fibre in every serving for a mere 50 calories (yes, the fibre = 46 of those calories). Despite the assertion in the information link, oat fibre is horribly expensive in the UK.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/08/2018 20:57

Just occasionally I crave cornflakes with sugar and hot milk. For some reason the way they go soggy and slightly bubbly really appeals sometimes.

terryleather · 21/08/2018 21:05

No more description of cereal with hot milk ...please I beg you...have mercy!!!!!!

TimeLady · 21/08/2018 21:14

I agree, terryleather, the smell of hot milk makes me boak. I never drank coffee until I was 18 and away from home, because my mum ALWAYS made it with hot milk. Still can't face a latte, forty+ years on

bd67th · 21/08/2018 21:22

I think I'll stick to fruit salad and yoghurt...
