You make a fine point. It wouldn't matter how Cath Kidston the invitation to tea and chat, there'd need to be 24 lever-arches of undertaking that no matter how vicious the disagreement about milk first or second, there would be no kerb-stomping of MNetters. (As far as I know, there have been no offers of violence the other way round so we're pretty much in need of one-way assurances here.)

Would it be better if the major political parties and women's organisations gave up all pretence of having women's backs? Give up the rhetoric of women's committees and groups and Special Interest panels.

Because, sometimes, pretending that you have an commitment, and procedures in place, is more dangerous than admitting that nothing exists beyond a deceptive name and some soothing rhetoric? (It's well established that companies that virtue signal their equalities etc. in their annual reports routinely have a substantially worse workplace reality than their competitors.)

I've done some work with a few former TERFs here in Vancouver. It's exhausting work and you need a lot of patience. You also can't expect them to give up all their harmful attitudes quickly, a lot of it is really deeply ingrained.
