Apologies for spoiling your Sunday, but i thought I'd best let you all know, according to some on an external site... Everyone here is part of a hate group..
I had no idea tbh.

Useful from that Twitter thread to see that Gill Furniss MP is another handmaiden.

picklemepopcorn · 19/08/2018 16:14

To be fair there are regularly posters who come on and complain that we are not very welcoming to men, As opposed to the posters who come on, don't make a fuss about their sex, and have no trouble getting on. Some people with penises seem to think that if they don't get special treatment we are being unwelcoming.

We need a red carpet emoji to roll out in response to complaints. Or first time posters. Please? Pretty please?

ErrolTheDragon · 19/08/2018 16:14

Yes, Vicky, I was just trying to make it totally clear. People without kids, trans people, men, non-feminists ... inclusive and diverse, just unusual in not being male dominated.Smile

MN welcomes people with dicks, just not too keen on those who behave like dicks.

Maybe we need a penis emoji. It would be particularly useful in the FWR board.

Remind me...when was the last time someone from MN threatened to bomb a school for disabled children?

(h/t to r/gendercritical for the link)

I wonder how much effect the local university, young labour and NUS officers had though?

Eden Ladley (NUS Trans /LGBT+ officer) commented that hers 'was the correct response' shortly after it was posted.

Eden Ladley also appeared with Lily Madigan and Jess Bradley at a Young Labour event recently on 'trans misogyny'

I wonder how many MPs like Gill Furniss think that they understand the issues because they're accepting their opinions, fully formed and pre-digested, from trusted sources. Like Bradley who contributed to Miller's report etc...

I wonder if Furniss and others are in for a very rude awakening at some point when the full extent of what they're effectively endorsing becomes horribly apparent both to their constituents and themselves.

TransplantsArePlants · 19/08/2018 17:10

Silent

Indeed. When was the last time MN threatened to bomb a peaceful meeting to discuss changes to the GRA?

Ofew · 19/08/2018 17:21

Is she a lawyer?

I don't think so, from that description. It sounds like she's not completed one/some of the elements required to qualify as either a solicitor or barrister. If someone is a qualified solicitor or barrister they would usually say so. You don't need to be a qualified lawyer to represent people in the employment tribunal.

That's not to say there aren't perfectly capable people who work as if they are lawyers who do a good job, know their stuff etc.

BraveAndStunning · 19/08/2018 17:38

Apologies, I took the person at their word - the bio said they were a lawyer.

R0wantrees · 19/08/2018 17:47

Perhaps they identify as a lawyer?

arranfan · 19/08/2018 17:51

Stephanie Hayden's blurb at the foot of that 'essay' states SH is engaged in employment tribunals etc. however, Stephanie's blog (Judicial Cat) claims this: I am a Landlord/Tenant law specialist with a keen interest in politics and current affairs.

RhythmStix · 19/08/2018 17:57

Stalinism doesn't even begin to cover it. Newspeak.

BraveAndStunning · 19/08/2018 18:06

Ha ha R0wan.

The HR world is certainly going to be good for a laugh the ways things are going

Popchyk · 19/08/2018 18:13

That is legal elitism right there, R0wan.

People on here are suggesting that actual qualified lawyers are somehow more valid than those lawyers who have no law qualifications.

That is elitist and reductionist and fascist and, worst of all, exclusive and not kind.

Here's the thing y'all - all lawyers are the same. The unqualified ones are just the same as the qualified ones; the unqualified ones just had a more difficult journey to become an unqualified lawyer, that's all. So, if anything, they are more lawyers than the qualified lawyers.

I wholeheartedly reject these outdated notions of academic and professional qualifications. Some lawyers have qualifications and some don't. Deal with it.

Hiring lawyers with no legal qualifications does not affect clients at all. And never would. Just the usual scaremongering from you lot.

LOL

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 19/08/2018 18:16

They will never ever know what it is truly like to be treated like a woman in a misogynist world. Their own misogyny thinks they know what a woman is for crying out loud. Their own dislike and warped view of women.
We will not be silenced, we will not be controlled.

R0wantrees · 19/08/2018 18:22

I would like it put on record that I made no value judgement as to those who are / identify as lawyers.
All lawyers are people who are valid and exist.

I do find it useful to understand the background to any source of material though. I also think that words matter

SimonBridges · 19/08/2018 18:24

I've seen at least 2 people on twitter saying they've called the police about Mumsnet

Did they call 101 to log it? That is the true MN way.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 19/08/2018 18:26

Popchyk

Grin

Same for doctors. Apparently some people only want to be cut open by someone with a medical qualification rather than someone who identifies with white coats and stethoscopes.

Although, to be fair, between a self ID doctor and the fragrant Adrian, I probably would plump for former...

Singlenotsingle · 19/08/2018 18:26

Stephanie may be a lawyer with a BA. Is she a solicitor?

Ofew · 19/08/2018 18:40

Stephanie may be a lawyer with a BA. Is she a solicitor?

Well she might be but I don't think she says so anywhere.

"Lawyer" is the generic term for either solicitor or barrister. Both are lawyers.

To call oneself a solicitor you need to have:

A law degree or a non-law degree plus a post graduate law qualification.

Passed the "Legal Practice Course" which is the professional qualification (1 yr full time study).

Completed a 2 year training contract in a law firm.

If you've been through all that you might as well give yourselves the professional title of solicitor.

Quite a lot of people do the first/second steps but for whatever reason don't go on to finish the qualification process. There are lots of legal roles they could do. But they could never be a solicitor.

Yawn. Couldn't care less what they think

May 2018 Trans Media Watch report to Home Affairs Committee on Hate Speech:
(extract)
"Of particular current concern is Mumsnet. Originally set up to be a support group for mothers, the website has expanded to have a variety of “boards”
. The feminist activism board seems to have become an area for those opposed to trans rights to organise. 18 out of the latest 26 threads are conversations on trans rights, with a large number of posts alleging variations of “trans women are men”. The feminist chat board also has a number of threads on the “trans agenda”, containing posts such as “I have no hatred for transwomen, I just don't want to be anywhere near humans who were born
with a penis”

. While concern is current, this does not seem to be a new phenomenon, as a piece published in Vice17 in 2016 reports:
“Are you saying it shouldn't affect us if a man walks in with cock and balls and expects us to just go about our business?" asked one user. "Where are these studies that prove trans women are more vulnerable to suicide and murder and all the rest of it? I've
never seen anything convincing compared to the stark statistics on the female victims of male violence," wrote another.

This is despite Justine Roberts (the owner of Mumsnet) saying “Transphobia is against our guidelines and we delete and ban users who are repeat offenders”

. On 15 April,
Justine was quoted in the Sunday Times alleging that trans activists are pressurising advertisers to remove their adverts from Mumsnet, saying “What’s worrying to me is the thought-police action around speech and the shutting down of the right to be able to disagree and immediately labelling it as transphobic.” (continues)
