Professor Rosa Freedman

As some of you on here know, I am an academic and I have just seen on twitter that another prominent voice has been added to the GC side: Prof Rosa Freedman, professor of Law at Reading:

twitter.com/GoonerProf/status/1029037165815185413

I cannot begin to explain how significant this is. Until today literally no legal academics have come out in support of the GC side and no articles are being written from a GC perspective, even in feminist journals. Given that the whole debate is around law-reform (duh) this is quite astonishing. Loads of woke-bro articles in support of course though.

Part of Rosa's motivation was the way that the academic community closed ranks on Kathleen Stock (one of my heroines). She says on her thread that she has already been thrown out of an academic online group for defending Professor Stock.

So, round of applause for Rosa and I hope this marks the beginning of many more female academics 'coming out'. I know quite a few of them think it (I can see who follows A Woman's Place Grin) but nobody dares say anything. I am far too junior and unimportant to risk being the object of vilification, so I am being a coward and keeping quiet, but inside I am celebrating.

The reason why there is such vitriol from the other side is that they know that their argument does not stand up to any sort of scrutiny, so they must resort to bullying, intimidation and #nodebate instead.

This.

SeaWitchly · 13/08/2018 21:40

Thank you Rosa. You are incredible Flowers

Doyenne · 13/08/2018 21:50

Thank-you Rosa

Cartertheunstoppablesexmachine · 13/08/2018 22:09

Thank you Rosa.

HerFemaleness · 13/08/2018 22:12

Thanks for this Rosa.

I'm disappointed at the treatment you've received from other female academics. It's quite shocking that women are effectively telling other women to submit without question to this gender ideology.

PyeWackets · 13/08/2018 22:13

I cheer every time I see another woman put her head above the parapet.

We need to defend the rights our great grandmothers won for us. It's our turn now, stand up, speak out. Thank you Rosa Flowers

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 13/08/2018 22:15

Thank you Rosa.

They want to silence to dissenters, as there is no logic to their arguments.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/08/2018 22:16

Thank you Rosa.
There are many women who just won't be silenced any more, won't recite the script, won't tell the lie.
And many thousands more finding their voices and willing us on.

Courage.

AnchorMum · 13/08/2018 22:17

Rosa - I thank you with all my heart for speaking out with such wisdom, compassion and courage.

Rosa, thank you. Every one of us appreciates the courage required to stand up and say what you're saying.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/08/2018 22:27

Thanks for speaking out, Rosa. The very fact that it's dangerous to speak out means it must be done.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 13/08/2018 22:30

heresyandwitchcraft · 13/08/2018 22:33

There are many women amongst us who will fight for trans-rights, but not when they are instrumentalised to undermine women’s rights, to erase women, or to exclude women.
Beautiful. Thank you so very much Rosa. Flowers

Voice0fReason · 13/08/2018 23:06

Thank you Rosa. It is helpful when academic voices speak out.

EmilieDuChatelet · 13/08/2018 23:11

Thanks and Flowers for speaking out/up Rosa.

20nil · 13/08/2018 23:11

Thank you from one academic to another. I know so many GC women in my university, Students and staff.

Janie143 · 13/08/2018 23:14

Thank you Rosa You are a woman who is genuinely stunning and brave Flowers

Datun · 13/08/2018 23:24

Thank you Rosa. Mumsnet is one of the few places where women are allowed to speak about this. So I am very glad you have found your way here.

This is why it is relentlessly targeted by transactivists.

However the tide is turning and women are speaking out.

Well done. Whoever named you knew what they were doing and must be proud.

Vickyyyy · 13/08/2018 23:51

Very brave to 'come out' as GC, especially knowing the threats and such that will come from being open, ad even moreso when you are identifiable. Hell it scared the shit out of me starting talking about this stuff, and I am anonymous!

I can see, soon, many women standing up together and 'coming out'. It starts as a trickle, then more and more until you have a waterfall.

I see henrietta spoon is all over this talking nonsense, claiming there is no increase in violence towards lesbians and that the only sex based protections women have are materity rights Hmm

RosaFreedman1983 · 14/08/2018 00:02

I am only annoyed with myself for not joining mumsnet 10 years ago when pregnant -- this thread has made me feel immeasurably better than I could have imagined. Thank you, all, for taking the time to write such supportive posts. Those posts (and playing Beach Boys and TuPac) have provided a counterbalance to the 'joyous' emails pinging into my inbox!

ChattyLion · 14/08/2018 00:12

Thank you Rosa Flowers you taking this stand really means a lot. I have tried talking to a couple of academics even privately around these issues and it is really shocking how the shutters come straight down. They are very scared. Thank you for being so brave as to speak out with integrity.
Please, keep it up! Flowers

Angryresister · 14/08/2018 00:18

Good to see you here...it is really brave to come out as GC these days, but there are more of us all the time and speaking out is the only way of stopping the rot.

Ereshkigal · 14/08/2018 00:36

A village is missing its useful idiot.

vicviking · 14/08/2018 01:21

Thanks Rosa. More male and female profs should join you in your stance.
