Channel 4 appoints a new advisor on inclusion

www.channel4.com/info/press/news/channel-4-appoints-sue-pascoe-as-advisor-on-inclusion-x

Sue Pascoe, who 4 years ago was Graham, and who said "that while a man, he was the embodiment of the all-action, red-bloodied alpha male."
Of course, by 2015, this evolved to "'It's funny, I'm 55, I am very hormonal, I am going through puberty again which means that I am just getting to my teenage girl years - so watch out world."

Perhaps those teenage girl years have been outgrown now that Pascoe is 58. Here's hoping.

I'm not convinced this will result in a better proportion of those of us who are female being represented though.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of the recent 'inclusivity' appointments actually included women? By which I mean, the old fashioned ACTUALLY underrepresented, female type human.

When they say "some cisgender people will radically narrow the terms male and female" to half the human population, who do you suppose they imagine themselves to be talking to?

thebewilderness · 09/08/2018 19:44

I suppose that like Facebook some mods operate on the basis of what we are accused of rather than what we actually said if there are enough reports. We explained brigading but I do not think all of the mods grasped how it is being applied here.

I think you're right.

placemats,

Oh come on, I think MNHQ understand very well about brigading.

We're doing our best (under rather difficult circumstances) to let these conversations happen - please help us out!

They're not the bad guys here. Thanks for allowing the conversation to continue JoanneMumsnet

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/08/2018 20:01

Is a couple of years as a transwoman really enough to qualify someone as a diversity expert?*

What about all the people who have been women/ethic minorities/disabled people for their whole lives? Would they not been better qualified to talk about diversity Channel 4?

This.

But they're just boring disadvantaged people without a fantastic glittery brave stunning I Am What I Am unicorn to ride in on innit?

placemats · 09/08/2018 20:03

So, if 100 posts to a page that makes nine deletions on page 1 and 2 deletions on page 2.

Fairly normal.

That song Sue is misogynist.

They're not the bad guys here.

No one is suggesting that the mods are the "bad guys".
I am suggesting that some appear to be uninformed and inattentive.
Not an unusual circumstance in any business.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/08/2018 20:14

yy thebewilderness. The general public are waking up to what's going on but still most don't realise about the surgery, AGPs etc. The whole nation would peak trans in seconds flat if they realised what's been going on with the girlslikeus stuff and the rifling in sanitary bins for used tampons etc.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/08/2018 20:15

cross posted there. Never mind.

ReluctantCamper · 09/08/2018 20:16

a bit of a non sequiteur

but Sue. why pick Sue?

Juno, Paris, India

Now those are names I would pick if I was in the market for one

But Sue?

placemats · 09/08/2018 20:16

To be honest I really don't think that bottom surgery should be allowed, ever, it's horrendous and leads to all sorts of complications re urinary and bowel disorders. This on adult humans. Pre teens and teenagers should be allowed for their urinary tract and their bowels to grow as they reach adulthood.

dontbringmedown · 09/08/2018 20:17

. A 55 year old male teenage girl.

It's sickening how many middle age men seem to have a desire to transition to a teenage girl or very young woman.
They even pick cutesy, young, inappropriate names.
Privately, I question the motives of such actions.

If a middle age man is serious about becoming a woman, surely he would aim become a middle aged woman and pick an age appropriate name.

Makes me wonder what's really going on in their minds.

ReluctantCamper · 09/08/2018 20:18

and yes, like others, I suspect the teenage girl hood that Sue is picturing for themselves is quite unlike my teenaged years, spent as a fat, spotty girl, made extremely uncomfortable by any male attention I received.

dontbringmedown · 09/08/2018 20:23

If you've grown up male you are going to have a hyper sexualised, fantasy type version in your brain of what it's like to be a 'teenage girl'.
It will be based on a set of male values.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/08/2018 20:27

How do you do your trans name??

2rebecca · 09/08/2018 20:33

Why is it always transwomen in these roles? I wouldn't mind a trans man getting it as they are under represented. I think people employ people like them. The BBC is full of white wealthy woke Oxbridge left leaning types who vote Remain and read the Guardian and their idea of diversity is lots of transwomen from similar backgrounds with similar views. C4 go for a Tory variation on this.

ReluctantCamper · 09/08/2018 20:35

How do you do your trans name??

you mean you haven't thought about this? what do you do with your evenings?

mine is Heathcliffe Dexter

obvs

ReluctantCamper · 09/08/2018 20:36

sorry. daft and unrelated derail on a very serious subject that does make me furious

shutting up now

stillathing · 09/08/2018 20:37

Ah my deletions were for misgendering. Genuinely hadn't realised I'd done that as I'm very sleep deprived (thanks baby). Apparently several people complained about my post. Does that mean that my name will be watched from now on? I wouldn't want to get ideas above my station re my importance.....

annandale · 09/08/2018 21:00

Sue is surely a good choice. It fits the age group and milieu this person moves in. I know another late transitioner who just added an e to their previous name. All fine with me. I sometimes think about my own male alter ego, who would be called Martin - not a great name but absolutely typical of my age group. I prefer it when people who are transitioning pick names that seem to fit.

I was thinking that name choice doesnt affect others' safety or rights, but it does, a little - I would have to remind myself to take commonsense precautions when meeting anyone new on my own, and not to be relaxed just because the person uses a female name. Which really is reasonable advice in all circumstances.
