University Hospital of South West Manchester. I've really got to get on with some work now but it might be interesting to do a little digging into the others
www.teli.org.uk/annual-conference

"Tara Hewitt, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead at UHSM, said: “It is a real chance to celebrate our hospital and community services as well as having a fun day out taking part in the carnival atmosphere that the parade generates alongside people from right across our local community."
www.uhsm.nhs.uk/news/2473/

See report in which mention of protected characteristics lists only 'gender':

SophoclesTheFox · 30/07/2018 15:28

Jesus Christ 😂.

I’ll give you this, genderskeptic, you’re going ALL IN on this derail.

If you’re going to bring Mao into it, then by all means let’s talk about the authoritarian elements at play here. Note: these are not coming from feminists.

VickyEadie · 30/07/2018 15:31

Anyway, batshit quotations from murdering communist dictators aside, back to the plot.

JB seems to prove that women's fears - that self-id allowing male-bodied people into women's spaces will allow perverts, fetishists, sex offenders and rapists in there - were entirely correct.

Moreover, JB seems to prove that the high-level lobbying that's gone in has a certain amount (and I'm not sure how much, obviously) of interest in exactly that - opening up women's and girls' spaces to male-bodied individuals who want to abuse the women and girls in there.

The fact that TRAs have happily thrown transsexuals completely under the bus en route makes me wonder just how many of those TRAs want nothing to do with transsexuals precisely because they themselves are nothing to do with them.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 30/07/2018 15:31

@genderskeptic just stop. I'm embarrassed for you.

BertrandRussell · 30/07/2018 15:31

Incidentally, genderskrptic, the other thread ended before you could explain how the Yoruba identify the people they are going to perform FGM on.

BadassUnicorn · 30/07/2018 15:33

Placemarking so I don't miss a thing.

sorenipples · 30/07/2018 15:35

As fun as some of the derails are, I've lost track of what evidence there is that Jess was indeed responsible. Is it the mail article and Jess's statement which didn't deny it and appeared to acknowledge some questionable behaviour? Is it clear why other newspapers have not picked this up?

Dottierichardson · 30/07/2018 15:35

genderscepticCheck out One Is Not Born A Woman by Monique Wittig, link here canvas.instructure.com/courses/881484/files/29889512?module_item_id=6278065

Again Wittig an odd figure to cite in a feminist forum, since Wittig broke with the feminist movement and is an outsider figure at best:

“Eventually, Wittig broke from the Mouvement and went to the United States. Her problem was this: she did not believe in the concept of "woman" - as in women's studies, the women's movement, or even in the theoretical style of writing écriture féminine, identified by her compatriots Hélène Cixous and Cathérine Clement. www.theguardian.com/news/2003/feb/05/guardianobituaries.books

Wittig was a theorist, nothing more, a controversial theorist, her arguments (not facts) are part of a branch of theories on gender, they are not some form of scripture or holy lore that all who speak about women have to adhere to…The fact that she has recently been ‘rehabilitated’ in the sphere of queer theory is irrelevant to this debate. Perhaps you should Google ‘Arguments against Wittig’s arguments against Monique Wittig's “One is not born a woman”, you will find there the many essays/articles arguing against her position.

Also your latest quote from the charming mass-murder and totalitarian leader Mao Zedong, is at least useful as it reinstates men and women as a category. I think you would find that given that Mao's regime would be a rather less sympathetic place than you obviously think.

sorenipples

The allegations have been made and jess has allegedly been suspended pending investigation by their employer, the NUS.

Carter Ruck have been hired on grounds of privacy not libel, to prevent publication in the press. DM have done so anyway. Sun has run blind item.

No denial from Jess, although of course that doesn’t equate to guilt and may have been done under instruction.

The exhibitionism blog/tumblr doodah has had screenshots taken from it. Whether that’s proven to be the work of JB or not, whether it’s their penis in the pics, it is up to their employer to decide whether they should retain their post after due process has taken place. Everyone is entitled to due process.

The question of whether the blog thing had video footage of minors masturbating as some have alleged is more serious and if that is confirmed to be the case I would expect the police to be involved, however that’s pure hearsay and I have no intention of traveling through the archive to look for that.

That’s about the state of play I think?

trumpetoftheswan · 30/07/2018 15:46

That sounds about right Bowlofbabelfish.

Jess's statement implies that the police are involved, as it mentions 'not unlawful'.

Dottierichardson · 30/07/2018 15:46

Also since Wittig did not believe in the concept of 'woman' I find it fascinating that she is so beloved in Queer Theory circles; as her stance makes it impossible to be a transwoman or transman; or woman or man for that matter. If Wittig's arguments are accepted how can anyone transition to something that doesn't exist? Also if Wittig's theories are upheld then how can one have an innate sense of being a 'man' or a 'woman' as by her logic there is no such thing?

Eden Ladleye (NUS LGBT+ Women's place officer)

Recent panelist with Jess Bradley and Lily Madigan

www.nusconnect.org.uk/elected-officers/lgbt-officer-women-s-place

Lily Madigan called for support for student sex workers from the panel.
(see Tweet support from Tara Hewitt and Neville Southall)

This has also been a focus for NUS LGBT+ / Trans officers:

I'd like to know the answer to that too.

DodoPatrol · 30/07/2018 15:48

Does the equivalent of facial recognition software exist for the nether regions, I wonder?

Dottierichardson · 30/07/2018 15:50

sorenipples the statement taken with the article strongly suggests that the online material does exist and is attributable (in some way) to Bradley, and that what is in question is what/if any laws were broken. Or at least that's what seems to be being said. I assume if the images didn't exist or they weren't uploaded by Bradley, Bradley would have said so in the statement?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/07/2018 15:53

So Bradley is a naturist. My recollection of naturists is that they simply like being naked. They see nothing sexual in it and tend to Get Upset if they are misrepresented. I wonder what they think of Bradley?

Dottierichardson · 30/07/2018 15:55

Dodopatrol if the person behind the Twitter feed (that was part of breaking the story, see link below) is to be believed there are witnesses, people who were there, took photographs perhaps? Even gendersceptic seemed to be saying that trans people were behind the revelations.

If you’re going to bring Mao into it, then by all means let’s talk about the authoritarian elements at play here.

I think we should go for Pol Pot - it's Year Zero and we must forget everything we have ever learned on the subject of women's rights and child protection. Because the Green Cross Code - or was it the Geneva Convention, I forget? - says so.

iamawoman · 30/07/2018 15:59

'Intersex isn't a disorder its a natural variation that disproves binary categorisation'

so does every variation that can arise following fertilization, or foetal growth ie people born with missing limbs for example does this disprove that humans arent bipedal?

LangCleg · 30/07/2018 16:00

And, lest anyone has forgot, three deletions in a six week period (especially defamatory ones about paedophilia) result in withdrawal of posting privileges. The rules at the top say so.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/07/2018 16:03

I think people are badly misunderstanding Wittig. Remember that she is from the tradition of Francophone feminism and is responding to theory that has de Beauvoir as its foremother. Wittig isn't saying that biology does not exist, she is saying that biology, as it has been understood by patriarchy to create the category 'woman', does not exist. Or, at least, this is how I read her many, many years ago.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/07/2018 16:04

Maybe in a genderfree world women hold up half the sky with their penises?

sorenipples · 30/07/2018 16:04

Thanks bowlofbabelfish. This just seems such a gift to the gender critical cause that I fear it may be a plant. How stupid or arrogant do you need to be to have managed the achieve the level of influence Jess had and yet maintain a blog like that which could destroy everything if uncovered?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/07/2018 16:05

I've been thinking similar.

LangCleg · 30/07/2018 16:07

I'd like to repost Fionne Orlander's response to the Bradley allegations:

I get why trans people don't put their face/name forward and get vocal about this, but times running out. If we don't address male pattern abuse it transitions with us.

Our movement is overrun with it, speak out or sink us with it. #selfID absolutely not.

Our media cheerleaders who probably are genuine sufferers don't speak out and by doing so incubate a 'safe space' for it to fester.

twitter.com/FionneOrlander/status/1023604707586134026

All abuse scandals are characterised by negligent media, institutions and authorities. Many are characterised by actual cover-ups from the same bodies. The Bradley whistleblower - who says they are trans themselves - is saying the same thing as Fionne.

So we need to know - if these allegations prove founded - who of those involved had knowledge of these activities and why they said nothing. This is not just about Bradley.
