think they could have just shut all the threads on this down, for an easy life. That they haven't, is really quite impressive

Agreed

JillyArmeeen · 30/07/2018 23:28

Thanks all for the clarification, about being careful. So anything in the daily mail article, or the blog is OK to repeat.
Maybe I'm paranoid. I've shared the article on Facebook without being too careful in the comments.

Pratchet · 30/07/2018 23:30

Unless (bluff and double bluff) there's a hope at HQ that a handy mistake here could force MN to shut down FWR and save them an embarrassing decision. I'm sure that's not true, fingers and toes crossed that it's not true.

Pratchet · 30/07/2018 23:32

Rufus I just watched the first 20 minutes of Kath and Kimderella.

Pratchet · 30/07/2018 23:33

And that's all I have to say about that.

R0wantrees · 30/07/2018 23:33

Anyone know if the UK trans movement is linked to Ireland and if so how?

Going to bed would be a lovely idea if my cat hadn't camped out in the doorway to the toilet, clearly in the hope of tripping me when I get up to pee.

(Derail over, as you were.)

Pratchet · 30/07/2018 23:34

The first mad max was Australian no? Also Gallipoli.

But also Going Square now that's a smashing film.

AnyFucker · 30/07/2018 23:35

I love Kath and Kim Smile

Correct me if I am wrong, but haven't HQ been sparing the "misgendering" and "dead naming" delete buttons the last couple if days

Tiny little whoopee, if so 👍

Pratchet · 30/07/2018 23:37

Thanks Rowan!
Af it seems erratic and dependant on who's on shift.

Voice0fReason · 30/07/2018 23:56

I don't think it's possible to be a naturist and an exhibitionist.

Claiming that their actions were not breaking the law is a pretty low bar and does not mean that it's in any way acceptable behaviour.

BeUpStanding · 31/07/2018 00:03

Apologies for continuing the derail, but (for Rufus) Mary & Max is another good Australian film.

Back on track - I think CSI Mumsnet is doing a brilliant job.

First time I was flashed at was age 12 or 13. Walking with my best friend in a residential area, we heard a shout and looked across the road to see a man frantically wanking us. It was frightening and disgusting; of course we told no-one. Similar incidents happened a few more times over the next couple of years. It is grossly offensive when people downplay the distress, intimidation and fear these acts cause.

thebewilderness · 31/07/2018 00:58

Walking home from school when I was 10 there was almost always a man in a car parked about a block away from the school wanking and calling us to come over to him. Offering candy to little girls. 1956.

ReappearingWoman · 31/07/2018 01:06

It's all transmisogyny, according to an NUS trans officer from B'ham university.

OvaHere · 31/07/2018 01:15

So according to Finn

media reporting and distaste at someone getting their cock out in public = transmisogynistic

Alrighty then.

Ihuntmonsters · 31/07/2018 01:15

When my older sisters were flashed at, my mum told them to ignore it as 'that's just what men do'. Thirty odd years ago, but I suspect she'd say much the same thing now. On the other hand when an individual on the bus wanked at my dd a couple of years ago the driver reported it to the police and everyone was incredibly supportive. I don't think that the perverts that do this sort of thing change much, but hopefully society has at least learned that there are victims and that they need support because indecent exposure is frightening, not a funny dare.

Finn seems to currently be in the denial stage.

DonkeySkin · 31/07/2018 01:55

Finn seems to currently be in the denial stage.

And the reversal stage.

It's a spectacular reversal of reality to claim that women noticing male-pattern sex crimes is 'misogyny'.

haXXor · 31/07/2018 02:40

@sociopathsunited It wouldn't surprise me if some of these previous safe places had cameras installed too, just to collect the footage.

I did some research into the cameras that would be used for this.

I'm sceptical that way. I expect this new "realistic" type of nasty violence and porn will find its clientele very easily

Yup. All the jigsaw pieces are falling into place in my head and I am TERRIFIED by what I see.

In the political and social context we have:

In the technical context we have:

  • Tiny cameras built into innocuous-looking bathroom items (see first link in post).
  • TOR, which allows the footage from those cameras to be downloaded by viewers in a way that is difficult if not impossible to trace, via "the dark web", onion service websites that can only be seen by using TOR.
  • Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Etherium, which allow camera footage to be paid for by the viewer in a way that isn't traceable to that viewer unless they are exceptionally careless and publically associate identifiable data (e.g. name) with their wallet address.

To summarise, we already have the technology to record and replay sex crimes in public toilet, showers, changing rooms etc without the victim being aware of the camera, and monetise that abuse of women. If you google/duckduckgo/whatever for "toilet camera" with safe search off, you will find what men are already doing to unsuspecting women.

With self-id, it will be easier for males to gain access to female spaces and sex crimes against women and girls in public spaces will become more widespread and will escalate beyond filming women as they pee, because if a Canadian man will abuse a very light-touch medical reassignment system to get cheaper car insurance, men will abuse a self-id system to gain access to women's intimate spaces, and we will see vulnerable women sexually harassed in the showers, [[https://www.change.org/p/theresa-may-mp-keep-sex-segregated-areas-sex-segregated lesbians assaulted for refusing male advances, and worse being done to women and girls by males whilst hidden cameras capture the lot for later use as monetised porn.

haXXor · 31/07/2018 02:47

Gah, link broke.

"With self-id, it will be easier for males to gain access to female spaces and sex crimes against women and girls in public spaces will become more widespread and will escalate beyond filming women as they pee, because if a Canadian man will abuse a very light-touch medical reassignment system to get cheaper car insurance, men will abuse a self-id system to gain access to women's intimate spaces, and we will see vulnerable women sexually harassed in the showers, lesbians assaulted for refusing male advances, and worse being done to women and girls by males whilst hidden cameras capture the lot for later use as monetised porn."

And it will be hard for law enforcement to go after the camera operators and watchers of the porn crime footage, assuming that the police even notice that the cameras are there, because of the anonymising nature of TOR and cryptocurrencies.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 31/07/2018 04:49

It's decades since I saw anyone quote Mao in support of an argument. It quite takes me back, so charmingly retro.

WombOfOnesOwn · 31/07/2018 05:53

Ah yes, how did that old ditty go?

^But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
Everyone will agree with you and you'll win the argument!^

Kyanite · 31/07/2018 05:57

Finn thinks we're in the minority...no, they just have friends in high places and with deep pockets.

EntropicTupperwareDrawer · 31/07/2018 06:47

I note the absence of any concern at all for women from Finn's post.

Surprising.

I take it none of Finn's siblings that Finn wants to stand by and protect are women (old style ones).

That is a pretty horrifying landscape there, HaXXor Sad. It galvanises me to do more to stop this before we're too far down the path.
