Gender Critical Greatest Hits

I am trying to compile a list of the key highlights of the gender debate, a ‘greatest hits’ if you will Grin of the most succinct and shocking things that have happened over the past few years. The sort of thing that would ‘peak’ people.

It’s for a (creative) project that I can’t say anything about just now.

If you could contribute anything I would be very grateful. The kind of things I have so far are:

Bomb threat against WPUK

Danielle Muscato taking a place in a woman’s shelter and tweeting “some women have penises. If you’re bothered by this you can suck my dick”

Shon Faye “enjoy your erasure”

Lily Madigan comparing race for life with apartheid. Looking for a more up to date Lily abomination but there are so many, any suggestions?

Kimberley Nixon suing Vancouver rape relief

What would you add to the greatest hits?

I've forgotten the name, but the transgender former Marine (I think) who told Ben Shapiro that if Ben didn't respect pronouns he'd be going home in the back of an ambulance. It's on YouTube.

Depending on your audience, I would add Dr Stock's piece on academics who are unable to speak out: medium.com/@kathleenstock/anonymised-responses-from-other-academics-to-my-articles-on-sex-gender-and-philosophy-f1cc0db04554

Chris Williamson

"Jeremy Corbyn supporter Chris Williamson, MP for Derby North, said he believed that “Trans women are women”. "

www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/01/26/activist-who-launched-anti-trans-crowdfund-campaign-suspended-by-labour/

There's probably a few others listed in the article. The original interview was in the Derby Telegraph

Ofew · 27/07/2018 12:06

India Willoughby's outburst on Big Brother.

And IW telling Jenni Murray (I think) that women who don't shave their legs are dirty.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 27/07/2018 12:10

Lily Madigan claiming they can get pregnant.

Munroe Bergdorf telling women that discussion of reproductive issues at the Women's March is 'exclusionary'.

Paris Lees very male flavoured Vice articles, including telling women how sexy it is to be catcalled, and pontificating about what women should find sexy about sex.

The Green Party looking for 'non-women'.

Travis Alabanza deciding that he should get to change next to teenage girls in Topshop because he feels like it.

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 27/07/2018 12:10

Lesbian protest at start of Pride parade.

Riley J Dennis's creepy YouTube videos.

Magdalen Burns and her fantastic videos.

Mermaids. Will say no more.

FloriDada · 27/07/2018 12:10

These are all so good, thank you very much everyone Smile

It’s quite something seeing it all together though Hmm

Oh and the trans mantrums just after the NI abortion referendum because the language was excluding transwomen. Because abortion isn't just about women you know.

R0wantrees · 27/07/2018 12:14

India Willoughby on Woman's Hour last year saying women's hairy legs 'are dirty'. I was parking at the time and remember it vividly!

Discussed by Jenni Murray who was interviewing India in an article The Times March 2017:

'Be trans, be proud — but don’t call yourself a “real woman”
Can someone who has lived as a man, with all the privilege that entails, really lay claim to womanhood? It takes more than a sex change and make-up'

(extract)
"The fury that a male-to-female transsexual could be so ignorant of the politics that have preoccupied women for centuries hit me again last year — 16 years after I had met Carol. This time I was speaking to another trans woman, India Willoughby, who had hit the headlines after appearing on the ITV programme Loose Women.

India held firmly to her belief that she was a “real woman”, ignoring the fact that she had spent all of her life before her transition enjoying the privileged position in our society generally accorded to a man. In a discussion about the Dorchester hotel’s demands that its female staff should always wear make-up, have a manicure and wear stockings over shaved legs, she was perfectly happy to go along with such requirements. There wasn’t a hint of understanding that she was simply playing into the stereotype — a man’s idea of what a woman should be.

She described hairy legs on a woman as “dirty”. But hairy legs are not considered dirty in a man. Did she not know that the question of whether a woman should shave her legs or her a rmpits had been a topic of debate among women for an awfully long time? And that to describe a woman who chose not to shave as dirty was insulting and again suggested an ignorance of sexual politics?

Unsurprisingly, my polite and informed line of questioning exposed me to a barrage of criticism on social media. I was a Terf and didn’t understand what Simone de Beauvoir, the author of one of the great feminist tracts, The Second Sex, meant when she wrote: “One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.” (continues)

Jenni Murray was publically rebuked by the BBC for the article

People who Maria Miller took advice from:

GIRES Who claim transitioning cures autism.

www.gires.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/GIRES-Young-People-Response-to-Service-Spec-1.pdf

Action for Trans Health. In their manifesto, they want the immediate release of all trans prisoners, hormones to be given out over the counter, and for trans people to be trained in surgery so they can operate on one another. They also 'liked' the post where the transwoman who was convicted of battering Maria Mac, said let's fuck up some terfs.

Jane Fae: Before they were a trans activist, they advocated for the legalisation of extreme porn, which involves the viewer being convinced of the injury to breasts, vaginas and anuses. They also campaigned for lowering the age limit of participants. They identify as a feminist.

You might have to google, on that one. But it's all out there.

These people were invited to give evidence for transgender equality headed by Maria Miller.

Floisme · 27/07/2018 12:42

I'd go for stuff in mainstream media - I think that's far more sinister than some nutjob on Twitter.

E.g. that news report (on LBC?) of a man being beaten up by four women when it was clear from the video they were male.

Or Maria MacLachlan being directed by the judge to refer to her attacker as female. (I assume it was recorded as a female crime too.)

Or the Guardian report a few months ago of a transgender prisoner going on hunger strike to be transferred to a woman's prison. that neglected to mention the prisoner was a sex offender. That was possibly the story that pushed me over the edge.
