Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

There's a hashtag to check out... twitter.com/hashtag/LWithTheT?src=hash

Just to be clear, lesbians are able to meet other lesbians without setting up special secret penis excluding societies.

We meet each other at work, at parties, at Pride, online. Our lives are not being overtaken and colonised by trans women muscling in on our book clubs and closing our lesbian knitting circles, as much as posters on Mumsnet claim they are.

BeyondRaggydoll · 09/07/2018 16:12

DAAARRRLINNNNNGGGG!!!!

Datun · 09/07/2018 16:13

LGBTQIA

Maybe you are trying to be inclusive, and not be a git about it.

But it's impossible. There is a direct conflict. Without having the definition of the word woman based on biology, you can't address oppression, based on biology.

Everything else flows from that.
If you have a cohort of people born male, many of whom are just cross dresses, or transvestites, or AGP who claim they are lesbians, their only cohort for sexual congress is lesbians.

You can say, all you like, that you disagree with them calling those lesbians transphobic, but if you subscribe to the view that those male born individuals are lesbians, you are complicit.

It comes across as lily livered.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 16:13

I cannot give an example, I think they have all been shut down due to pressure.

This is so funny! Have you ever met a lesbian in RL Baby? Do you know where we meet our partners?

Yes, yes I've met many lesbians thanks.

You have avoided the question at least 6 times I think. Why??

I'll post it here again so everyone can see what you will not address:

What do you think about female lesbians forming groups which exclude lesbian's with a penis?

I didn't mean marraige, obviouly. You knew that

I don't have a specific example.

Finding a partner could be a hypothetcial example.
A book club may be another.
Or scottish country dancing.

You know the activity is not what this question is about.
It's about homosexual women having the right to define themselves and in doing so exclude penis bearers.

But you will not address the question at the heart of it.

ChampagneontheNHS · 09/07/2018 16:14

And don’t forget the clitoris, that purely female anatomical part purely for female pleasure. People keep forgetting the clitoris.

Such a shame I do love blackadder

*What do you call the specific class of people born with the biology to potentially gestate young?

And how do refer to the adults of this specific class of people?*

People born with the biology to potentially gestate young. No more, no less.

UpstartCrow · 09/07/2018 16:16

I'm sure women everywhere will thank you.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 16:17

Daim you so airly dismiss the experiences of other lesbians, if it is not yours.

No one talked about 'secret' clubs why would they need to be secret?

Maybe you are right, they are not needed. But just wanted.

So if some lesbians wanted them, is that OK?

is it OK for female lesbians to want to have space only for people born with female biology?

Datun · 09/07/2018 16:17

if they are attracted to those of the female gender,

And this just needs saying, again. Sex is a protected characteristic. Sexual orientation, based on sex, is a protected characteristic.

There is no such thing as a sexual orientation based on same gender attraction.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 16:19

Baby your questions are so bizarre.

I used to go to a lesbian line dancing club (brilliant fun btw) so that's quite a good example. It was run by lesbians but straight women used to come too. Nobody was on the door asking women to prove their sexuality and nobody particularly cared. If a trans woman wanted to join in that would have been fine. Why wouldn't it be?

Datun · 09/07/2018 16:19

People born with the biology to potentially gestate young. No more, no less.

Lol.

And your definition of woman is?

Datun · 09/07/2018 16:20

Baby your questions are so bizarre.

And never to be answered, it would seem.

53rdWay · 09/07/2018 16:21

People born with the biology to potentially gestate young. No more, no less.

Okay. So I am of that class. I’m curious: going by your definition, what else would make me a woman? For me it’s just that I belong to that reproductive class. What additional/different thing about me would make me a woman in your worldview?

LGBTQIA · 09/07/2018 16:21

*You can say, all you like, that you disagree with them calling those lesbians transphobic, but if you subscribe to the view that those male born individuals are lesbians, you are complicit.

Please don't call me lily livered, or imply that I might be a coward. Thank you.

A transvestite is someone who dresses as the opposite gender. Obviously, a male transvestite isn't a lesbian and it is wrong if that person calls himself such.

A transwoman who has followed the necessary process to legally be recognised as a woman, and has legally been recognised as such, however, is perfectly entitled to call themselves a lesbian.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 16:22

What do you call the specific class of people born with the biology to potentially gestate young?

And how do refer to the adults of this specific class of people?

People born with the biology to potentially gestate young. No more, no less.

And there we go: women no longer means adult female, female no longer means reproductive sex class which bears young, there is no term any more for that group of people they must just be referred to by describing their reproductive function everytime.

Why would women be upset by thist??? Eh??
What a silly old fuss we're making.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 16:22

is it OK for female lesbians to want to have space only for people born with female biology?

It depends what you mean by space? You do realise the Equality Act means you cannot have gay only spaces such as bars and clubs? They have to be open to everyone. That's why all the best gay bars get overtaken by straight women on hen parties.

LGBTQIA · 09/07/2018 16:23

Okay. So I am of that class. I’m curious: going by your definition, what else would make me a woman? For me it’s just that I belong to that reproductive class. What additional/different thing about me would make me a woman in your worldview?

Identifying as a woman.

Floisme · 09/07/2018 16:24

So basically a woman is anyone who says they're a woman?

Good luck with that, the human race.

UpstartCrow · 09/07/2018 16:25

Its only an administrative change. No need for any hysteria from the class of people it won't affect. Nothing to see here, you are free to go.

53rdWay · 09/07/2018 16:26

Okay, so what do you mean by ‘identifying as a woman’? If it’s something like ‘you use the term ‘woman’ to describe yourself’, then yes I do - but as I’ve explained, that is only and entirely because of my biology. By your definition, it would be incorrect of me to define myself as a woman on those grounds. So what else is it that I’m doing/being/thinking that would make me a woman, over and above that biology?

LGBTQIA · 09/07/2018 16:26

And there we go: women no longer means adult female, female no longer means reproductive sex class which bears young, there is no term any more for that group of people they must just be referred to by describing their reproductive function everytime.

I think you misunderstand me. A woman is an adult female. I am a woman. I have the potential to gestate. That in itself does not make me female. I'm female because I identify as such.

Sarahconnor1 · 09/07/2018 16:27

A transvestite is someone who dresses as the opposite gender

You do know transvestites are now included under the transgender definition?

LangCleg · 09/07/2018 16:27

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... BINGO!

We're back to circular definitions.

HQ needs better substitutes. Methinks a new training module or two are required.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 16:28

Baby your questions are so bizarre.

And never to be answered, it would seem.

You now what I'm asking Daim, and what you are avoiding.
