Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

Of course Datun is welcome at Pride she could be in the parade, dance in the dance tents, come and watch the drag queen comedy, cheer Britney. It's a brilliant day.

The only thing that would make Datun unwelcome would be hateful behaviour towards LGBTQI people.

Datun · 09/07/2018 14:44

To me, looking back in time, this seems such a reversal of Pride was originally for.

It was called Gay pride, not Pride.

It was about fostering acceptance through public celebration.

The fact that lesbianism is now unacceptable to the very people involved in Pride, is utterly shocking.

It's a travesty.

Datun · 09/07/2018 14:47

Tell that to the man who threw a glass bottle at a lesbian.

YourMajestyJ · 09/07/2018 14:48

I guess you're not welcome for being hateful towards lesbians.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/07/2018 14:48

CertainHalfDesertedStreetsyou would be more than welcome at Pride as long as your intention wasn't to be hateful towards another group the event is celebrating.

Oh I've been to Pride. Back when all this were fields. But I wouldn't go now because limited numbers innit. So it would be a complete appropriation and I'd be taking a space from someone for whom the spaces are reserved. And I don't do that because it's cuntish. What kind of person claims a space for themselves among an oppressed group without any thought for the members of that group?

See what I did there? Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 14:50

I know daim

As soon as i typed that i thought 'oops' Grin

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/07/2018 14:52

Knick knack I made a great date cake t'other day with a dort of squidgy date layer.

It was in the Leith's baking bible.

ImpYCelyn · 09/07/2018 14:52

As previously stated, lesbians and bisexuals have a list of hateful behaviour they have experienced from other members of the community during Pride events. This is not a rule.

Agree re gay pride. And I was genuinely shocked this year by the primary school that staged a "pride" event, rainbows galore, to celebrate the families of students and all they things they were proud of. Talk about missing the point. It'd be like a Black History Month assembly where the kids talk about people they admire including Einstein, Tim Peake and JK Rowling.

YourMajestyJ · 09/07/2018 14:53

It was called Gay pride, not Pride.

It's amazing to think that although 2 lesbians and 2 men came up with the idea for pride, it was a bisexual woman, Brenda Howard that organised it. She is known as "The mother of Pride." Yet she had no problem with it being called such.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 14:54

Gay Pride was called gay pride before marriage equality, before gay people could adopt, foster, be in the army.

We now enjoy much more equality and much less prejudice than 30 years ago. We can afford to extend our pride to those still suffering prejudice and hostility from society.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 14:54

Daim: Datun could you go to Pride?
Datun: I dunno what are the rules?
Daim: Ah Ha! So you don't know the rules!!!
Datun: No, what are they?
daim: Anyone can go as long as they're not mean.

Us All: So what was the bloody point of the question??

littlbrowndog · 09/07/2018 14:56

Lols

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 14:56

Daim what do yo think about lesbians setting up female only groups?

UpstartCrow · 09/07/2018 14:56

We now enjoy much more equality and much less prejudice than 30 years ago.

Unless you are a lesbian. In which case much of the prejudice is coming from inside your own community.

YourMajestyJ · 09/07/2018 14:56

"daimbars why have you ignored all the screenshots of people promoting lesbians rape/coercive sex culture?"

They always do, and then continue to pretend they haven't seen it and that it doesn't happen.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 14:57

Oh I was just pointing out the irony that Datun is straight but feels her opinion about who is and is not welcome in the Pride parade is more valid than mine as a lesbian.

Datun · 09/07/2018 14:58

We now enjoy much more equality and much less prejudice than 30 years ago.

Whilst it's admirable to extend a march to other people, it's not if it loses sight of the original people for whom it was intended, as a result.

justabout2016 · 09/07/2018 14:59

"I repeat my offer that I made on the other thread. £100 to any trans charity if anyone, daim included, can show me the same volume of threatening hate filled tweets coming from GC feminists and directed at trans people. Made in the last couple of days, as these were.

I’m pretty sure my money is safe."

pretty much every post on this thread.

Mermaids please.

Daim, your posts are articulate and represent the majority.

Datun · 09/07/2018 15:00

For the last time, the lesbians were not part of the pride march, they were protesting at the pride march.

YourMajestyJ · 09/07/2018 15:01

Oh I was just pointing out the irony that Datun is straight but feels her opinion about who is and is not welcome in the Pride parade is more valid than mine as a lesbian.

Seeing as Datun doesn't hate lesbians like you do, I'd argue it is.

LangCleg · 09/07/2018 15:01

oi oi Daim. Where's the receipts of the GC hatred and threats of violence?

ImpYCelyn · 09/07/2018 15:01

Hahahahaha! Shit, it's intersectional gay pride. "I think we've made our point and stuff has really improved, now we're inclusive and fighting for everyone". I look forward to the diverse range of floats for next year then. Perhaps the incels can have one, they self-id as persecuted. And the zoophiles, they're misunderstood.

How can any lesbian think that? It's like when my year 10 students at a an all girls school told me we dont need feminism anymore because "things have really improved".

those still suffering prejudice and hostility from society - that would be LGB people.

littlbrowndog · 09/07/2018 15:01

U kidding me just about

Oh haha

UpstartCrow · 09/07/2018 15:02

Its OK Datun, we can all smurf the thread and see what was smurfed.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 15:02

Confused

But its gay pride

Even a straight woman can say that lesbians should be able to go to gay pride surely

Or have i missed something....i may have missed something
