Count the ladies

And 4 of them are transWink

SpartacusVonWaitrose · 08/07/2018 16:12

I'm looking forward to Stephen Fry getting back to us ASAP re: how he's getting on having sex with people with vaginas, since he doesn't mind homosexuals being asked to either challenge their genital preferences or face accusations of transphobia.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 08/07/2018 16:13

From the Pride London statement:

...we are shocked and appalled by this behaviour, not least because some felt threatened by the protesters. We are treating this extremely seriously and will be reviewing what happened with the Greater London Authority, the Metropolitan Police, Westminster City Council, TfL and continuing to consult with our Community Advisory Board.

So 8 women were THREATENING enough at Pride to warrant the involvement of the Met, GLA, TfL and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all. It's the fanjos with their laser beams, ya know. And their teeth. Grin

We will also be working with groups who have offered support given this issue must be stamped out...

This issue MUST BE STAMPED OUT. Holy fucking Christ. If I hadn't seen it I would have never believed it!

Again, we are sorry to any of our trans siblings and their allies.

But not sorry to their lesbian sisters. AngrySad

MillyTheKid · 08/07/2018 16:13

who are these so called Lesbians on the Pride Board?

Didn't realise that not agreeing with the general viewpoint on here made someone a 'so called lesbian'.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 08/07/2018 16:14

No current plans to look at Equalities legislation but I think the Equalities Act will be looked at post Brexit.
It would be a shame if we lost sex-based protection. As a gender-non-conforming lesbian, I don't have a 'woman' gender identity. I have a female sex. I find it hard to separate 'lesbian' from 'autistic' from 'woman' but I see myself as a woman because I have periods and I've given birth and nursed infants. Not because of any internal feelings. The idea of identifying into how women are treated in the world makes me uncomfortable.

Biology all the way!

The current consultation is about the GRA.

SuperDandy · 08/07/2018 16:15

" It's called derailing, moving the focus onto an insignificant point to distract from what the lesbians were saying/protesting about. But luckily, your posts are so transparent it's easy to spot.smile"

Transparent in what way?

You may consider it an insignificant point, but since it took a few posters responding to figure out what was (probably) even meant by it, it doesn't fit the mould of a derail. I asked because posters were noting the negative publicity, and to me it seems that the language used has contributed to the negativity. We had a discussion, the thread has now moved on.

Goodness knows we see a lot of discussion about how critically important language use is here.

Try to get along to (or help organise) a WPUK meeting if you have questions about the implications of this.

Well that came out wrong Grin

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 08/07/2018 16:19

I think there are probably a few definitions of lesbian. Monique Wittig might not think of me as one, because I've had children. But she's not doing a hate crime at me by thinking that. She's not forcing me to go against my boundaries and sleep with anyone I don't include in my pool of potential partners.

Action for Trans health edinburgh has an interesting fb post up about self-identified dykes that stretches it a bit for me.

But if you're a woman and you fancy women and not men, call yourself a lesbian. If you like. or gay. or 'person who doesn't like labels'. or whatever.

OrchidInTheSun · 08/07/2018 16:19

What is scary about 8 middle aged skinny women? No one was frightened of them. It's bollocks.

Great article by the awesome Jo Bartosch conatusnews.com/pride-london-lesbian-activism/

Pratchet · 08/07/2018 16:20

Still can't believe they got all the way to Trafalgar Square. Star

Floorplan · 08/07/2018 16:21

What is scary about 8 middle aged skinny women?

It must be the ideas in their heads

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 08/07/2018 16:22

'While Tesco and Barclays negotiate the size of their sponsorship of Pride London, women like me get on with life. We still look around before holding hands, we laugh to hide the anger when men make threatening and perverted comments and we pretend to be ‘friends’ when we arrive somewhere new. ' This is crucial for me. Lesbians are framed as oppressors with 'monosexual privilege' when we get this kind of shit still.
Please stand up for us, or at least just let us be.

Lesbians are women who are sane sex attracted.

My Facebook is full of people posting shite about how Stonewall was started by a transwoman. AngryAngryAngry

Juells · 08/07/2018 16:27

Reading the comments below the Independent article (linked upthread) I came across this lovely re-writing of history.

It happened when the TERFs went to Millwall Football club for a meeting - then Millwall banned them from having any more meetings.

If readers didn't know what actually happened, that sounds like a bunch of women were so violent that Millwall banned them Confused

SuperDandy · 08/07/2018 16:28

Crusty "Unsanctioned group". You have to be "sanctioned" to go to Pride?"

To be part of the parade, yes, you need to apply and go through a process. Numbers are limited so lots of people who would like to be in the parade are not able to each year.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 08/07/2018 16:33

I think the timing of this action just underlines how bizarre Pride has become. Peter Tatchell's going to Black Pride today instead. It just doesn't represent the core beliefs it did when it started.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/07/2018 16:37

Lesbians are women who are sane sex attracted.

I'm guessing a typo but maybe not!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 08/07/2018 16:39

I like it the way it is.

CrustyCob · 08/07/2018 16:47

To be part of the parade, yes, you need to apply and go through a process. Numbers are limited so lots of people who would like to be in the parade are not able to each year

But people were not number or application limited on last weeks NHS rally...just saying...

So Pride now is just a Parade run by big business and some unelected peoples who decide who goes to the left and who goes to the right.?
Okay, got that.
Very helpful in letting me understand what is going on here.

Take note:

Lesbians: Don't rain on Our Parade.

Ereshkigal · 08/07/2018 16:48

I also wonder a bit about the rise is 'pansexuality' and whether it is linked to increasing pressure to be oh so inclusive in everything that young people do, even if they are not comfortable with it.

Yes I have noted a trend to this and bi/pan sexuality being seen as a morally superior position.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 08/07/2018 16:48

Maybe they just didn't look fabuloso enough?
