This is even worse coming from a woman.

Bet it never crossed her mind to say "Transmen are men.

Because that would make it about women and clearly women are going to be the afterthought in this reform.

Says it all, doesn't it.

This is all about mens rights to abolish women's safety.

CosmicCanary · 03/07/2018 07:26

Shes on the BBC now talking about how £4 million is being but in to supporting LGBTQ with employement rights, education and access to health care.
It made me wonder what healthcare do the LGB groups not have access to already?

The critic in me does wonder if this was more for the T in the LGBT to be able to access cosmetic surgery on the NHS.

Happy to be corrected.

Macareaux · 03/07/2018 07:31

£4m is piss all in the context of a country with 65m inhabitants.

I could cry.

AncientLights · 03/07/2018 07:35

My starting point for this consultation is that transwomen are not women. It'll be very interesting to see how this thing is structured.

Trans getting cosmetic surgery on the NHS would sit uncomfortably with most after the announcement the other day of the procedures they can no longer carry out. So what health issues do they have that aren't linked with the stubborn refusal of some to recognise their biological sex is still peskily present?

Interview here:

www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/07/03/penny-mordaunt-interview-gender-recognition-act/

"Q. There’s been a substantial amount of controversy, in terms of the backlash from some feminist groups. What does the government make of some of the concerns that have been raised?

A. We’re listening to everyone. The starting point for this is that trans people need to be supported and we need to ensure the processes that are there when they’re going through a transition are there to support them and not add to their stresses.

Trans women are women, that is the starting point for this consultation.

Of course we listen to all groups, and women’s groups in particular."

misscockerspaniel · 03/07/2018 07:59

Timely reminder of the need to state the obvious when completing the consultation. Don't assume that the officials dealing with your response think that "woman" means adult human female. You must define what you mean by woman etc. What do you mean by transwoman, who is included/excluded in the definition. It will be pointless if they eg say men can't have access to women's loos if their definition of women includes those born male. Remember that brainwashers have been spreading their propaganda behind the scenes for years.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 03/07/2018 08:01

"Trans women are women... and we listen to women's groups."

Right....

PencilsInSpace · 03/07/2018 08:02

What people need to understand is this is not about banning appropriate counselling for people who might be seeking support to explore their sexuality or gender identity… this is about harmful processes. In the most extreme form, corrective rape, and those must be banned. We are looking at the best ways of doing that.

Is corrective rape not already banned? Hmm

Hulo · 03/07/2018 08:08

Well she can start off saying it if she likes, I don't care, as long as it doesn't inform anything she actually does; a bone thrown to the TRAs. If she starts with that they might shut up. If they start up, she can say it a couple more times till they quieten down again.

Anyhow; it has been shown that lesbians, gays and bisexuals suffer more from issues around addiction and, unsurprisingly, mental health problems. Engagement with health services is lower due to experience, or fear of, homophobic attitudes. I've found a random report showing gays, lesbians and bisexuals have a poorer experience of cancer care which I wouldn't have thought.

FlippinFumin · 03/07/2018 08:10

Well, nice to see she is starting with an open mind then.

Perhaps we should all send her some of the lovely 'women' on youtube who threaten actual born women with rape, violence and tell us it is all our fault for not being good 'women'.

TimeLady · 03/07/2018 08:10

She has a piece in The Independent today too

Alltheprettyseahorses · 03/07/2018 08:12

She's an MP and she says that.

Who the fuck lets these people stand for public office?

Atalune · 03/07/2018 08:18

Listening now.

It’s not a consultation. At all.

“We will listen to both sides” hang on, I thought gender was a spectrum?????

Why why why is she speaking on this is she already has stated trans women are women! She’s biased. If nothing else.

I’m going to write to her. Is there a petition for her to be sacked.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/07/2018 08:19

Starting with a statement of non-fact. That bodes well!

Ereshkigal · 03/07/2018 08:27

Who the fuck lets these people stand for public office?

Quite.

PartridgeInAFairTree · 03/07/2018 08:29

Wow that interview on the Today Programme with PM just now really shows anyone who is standing up for the rights and dignity of women and girls just how much we need to do to even get our concerns heard on the same level with those wanting to demedicalise the GRA.

Bowlofbabelfish · 03/07/2018 08:40

Someone should ask her outright:

hey! Penny! Do you believe humans can change sex?

HubrisComicGhoul · 03/07/2018 08:48

If that is the starting point, it must be a fact and therefore she and every other MP accepting this must be able to explain how a trans-women has the same objective reality as I do and what makes them different from a feminine man.

I will be writing to my MP for her explanation.

ImpYCelyn · 03/07/2018 08:55

Interesting that now they’re prepared to throw some money at LGBT health, but dragged their heels over funding for PrEP...

LittleLebowski · 03/07/2018 09:04

I am totally unsurprised. We have come so far down this route, I don't think any politician would be able to say anything other than 'trans women are women' or face a major backlash and be made to issue some apology. Tories in particular have few opportunities to appear like the warm and fuzzy party. I'm sure this is seen as an easy concession to make to look up with the times and all that. The majority will just go on not believing it. As Hulo said - proof is in the pudding.

MsBeaujangles · 03/07/2018 09:05

Hopefully the statements from PM that ‘trans women are women’ and ‘we will listen to women groups’ will be widely used to exemplify the concerns. We need the media to challenge PM, and those making similar claims, on this.

Popchyk · 03/07/2018 09:09

I will write to my Conservative MP who has serious concerns about how the proposed changes affect women and children. I will ask him personally to speak to Penny Mordaunt.

Parliamentary summer recess is July 20th - 5th September people. We have very little time to get their attention.

So get writing right now.
