www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/jun/30/women-fest-first-man-free-festival-sisterhood-song

"All women are welcome at the festival, says Jacout, including transgender women and pre-operative individuals. "We're also happy to have non-binary people provided they have a vagina; but not non-binary people with a penis, because we have to draw the line somewhere"

What line? You've just said "pre-operative individuals" ffs! I'm so tired of this.

The word woman has been rendered meaningless, how sad.

Popchyk · 01/07/2018 09:43

Ha ha ha. You cannot make this up.

So some blokes with a penis can attend.

But not other blokes with a penis.

So that's clear then.

buttyblahblah · 01/07/2018 09:45

It sounds shit anyway. Me and my vagina would not like to attend.

With that kind of bullshit it could end up being predominantly non-vagina owners, wonder how they'll get on in the "womb tent".

UpstartCrow · 01/07/2018 09:45

Women should boycott that event.

Opheliah · 01/07/2018 09:46

So a non binary male (or indeed any male) just identifies as trans for the day, simples.

To be fair at least they tried to draw a line but how it works in practice renders it much like a line drawn by monkeys with a spray can.

Popchyk · 01/07/2018 09:50

The womb tent is biological elitism. Clearly. It will be distressing to non-womb owners.

"You have to draw the line somewhere".

How about at women?

Because it is, you know, Womanfest.

It is like making a golf tournament open to golfers and some swimmers. Because you have to draw the line somewhere.

groundcontroltomontydon · 01/07/2018 10:11

it could end up being predominantly non-vagina owners
Takings could be down at the vaginal steaming stall this year

pachyderm · 01/07/2018 10:14

Hope no-one brings their 13 year old daughter. Seriously, I'm fucking raging at this gaslighting shit.

there will also be a creativity tent, where participants can volunteer to run workshops in skills such as basket weaving and cloth making

Does Viz magazine and Milly Tant still exist? Most of this could be published there and not raise an eyebrow.

misscockerspaniel · 01/07/2018 12:19

At only £225 a ticket, sounds a bargain Grin. I feel the need to go and sit in a tent and debate the definition of woman with middle-class professional hipsters.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 01/07/2018 12:23

"There will also be a creativity tent, where participants can volunteer to run workshops in skills such as basket weaving and cloth making."

Reminds me of the old joke.

"My mother made me a lesbian."
"If I give her the wool will she make me one too?"

Popchyk · 01/07/2018 12:32

So I'll put you lot down as a maybe then?

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 12:54

Re vaginal steaming the link below is a good read.If you are pressed for time my John Crace style condensed version is "Anything Gwyneth Paltrow promotes on Gloop can safely be disregarded as a mixture of steaming horse manure and snake oil"

Vaginal Steaming: Use, Safety, Benefits, and More

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 01/07/2018 12:57

Vaginal steaming? Fuck no. Look what it does to mussels!

SlothSlothSloth · 01/07/2018 13:02

This is pretty silly. Surely no penises would be the appropriate “line” to draw. The rules they’ve made just seem arbitrary.

Also I remember people who attended MitchFest saying one of the great joys was feeling free from the male gaze. Women stripping off, not caring how they looked. Not worrying about their bodies. Doesn’t sound like that could happen here.

groundcontroltomontydon · 01/07/2018 13:06

So I'll put you lot down as a maybe then?
Sadly I am unable to attend as I'll be hosing down the bins that weekend

UglyCathKidstonBag · 01/07/2018 13:07

It sounds shite even before you get to in being anyonefest.

It will be a bunch of bankers in maxi skirts and stupid hats.

buttyblahblah · 01/07/2018 13:10

Groundcontrol do you think ladydick steaming will be as popular?

BiologyIsReal · 01/07/2018 13:10

I had to snort at the headline "first man-free festival" Err no.

heresyandwitchcraft · 01/07/2018 13:22

Wow. Not even a mention of what happened to Michigan Womyn's Music Festival in that article. This is ahistorical, controversy-erasing, biology-denying nonsense.
If your line is "no non-binary people with a penis" that is NOT a line. Literally all the penis-owning person has to say is "I'm a woman." This is a unisex festival.

Sarahconnor1 · 01/07/2018 13:24

"first man-free festival"

"First male penis and non binary penis free festival" has quite a ring to it I think!

I can think of better ways to spend £225.

ijustwannadance · 01/07/2018 13:26

People have more money than sense.
Bet they will be so happy with all the lady penis in the hot tubs and saunas.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 01/07/2018 13:28

Michfest sounds amazing. Imagine the freedom of walking naked through the forest at night on your way back to your tent.

But then I spent 48 hours naked at Glastonbury back in the 70s, when hassling women for sex seems to have been slightly less acceptable. I was with a mixed group of friends. I can still remember how liberating it was. I love getting my kit off, even now when I'm old and fat, with physical problems.

I went for physio recently and the physio said that if I was ok about looking at my body in the mirror I might find it helpful to learn the moves. I was wearing underwear. I was totally Shock at the thought that she thought I might be unable to bear looking at my fat, ageing body. It's my body, FFS!
