www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/jun/30/women-fest-first-man-free-festival-sisterhood-song

"All women are welcome at the festival, says Jacout, including transgender women and pre-operative individuals. "We're also happy to have non-binary people provided they have a vagina; but not non-binary people with a penis, because we have to draw the line somewhere"

What line? You've just said "pre-operative individuals" ffs! I'm so tired of this.

OP posts:
groundcontroltomontydon · 01/07/2018 13:32

Butty I've never steamed anything more adventurous than asparagus but hey if someone's willing to pay £225 to sit in a tent in Somerset waving a bell on a stick then I say let them blow smoke up their own bodypart of choice

OvaHere · 01/07/2018 13:33

Interesting that they are claiming to be the first man free festival when Michfest (and maybe others) came first. Rather ironic considering that TRAs shutdown Michfest.

Reminds me of the transitioning Wachowski's claiming first female trilogy when actually it belongs to someone else.

reallybadidea · 01/07/2018 13:34

I'm not defending them, but maybe by 'preop individuals' they mean transmen who haven't had surgery?

Sarahconnor1 · 01/07/2018 13:37

reallybadidea
Very unlikely, that would mean acknowledging biology and it's all about feelings now.

littlbrowndog · 01/07/2018 13:47

Look at the price of it £225.00

Cripes

To get empowered by wokrkshops and and the womb tent

Having a laugh they are and gawd knows wat sort of penis is acceptable

225 !!!
Seems u have to be a certain class of women or someone else who I can’t work out exactly what

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 01/07/2018 14:11

Man free my arse. What exactly is the point of writing about or promoting this festival? It is nothing different from any other festival apart from the fact that usually you aren't expected to make your own entertainment.

I bet the woman organising it considers herself to be very modern, inclusionary and progressive and is expecting many pats on the back for being soooo progressive.

Macareaux · 01/07/2018 14:17

This is truly priceless.

I'm waiting for the non-binary-penis-owners (aka men) to give them a public shaming because women-penis-owners (aka men) are allowed to attend. Then watch them roll over and issue a grovelling apology.

My money is on there being more ladydicks than yonis in attendance.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 14:18

“We’re also happy to have non-binary people provided they have a vagina; but not non-binary people with a penis because we have to draw the line somewhere.”

To me I think it means they will allow trans men, presumably no matter how well they pass as men, to attend as long as they do not have a prosthetic pens. So Buck Angel, who has spoken publicly about retaining a vagina, or the trans man in that poster about menstrual bleeding could (possibly)attend if they wanted to?

India Willoughby , Kelly Maloney and Janet Mock who have had full surgery, and are quite open about it, could attend.

Blaire White however, despite her appearance, could not attend as she speaks quite openly about not having had genital surgery (although the chances of her wanting to go are as non-existent as that of the posters on here)

hungryhippie · 01/07/2018 14:19

Im a recent delurker.
Could anyone let me know what happened at Mitchfest? Ive tried googling.
Im learning so much with all of your posts, so thank you.

dinosaursandtea · 01/07/2018 14:20

I think it’s great that they’re so inclusive - irritating that nb people who were assigned male at birth aren’t allowed, though. They’re no more male (or female) then AFAB non-binary people!

womanformallyknownaswoman · 01/07/2018 14:22

It's the "not real men fest"

Sarahconnor1 · 01/07/2018 14:31

What is our Gender Policy?

We invite all Woman! This includes trans-women and non-binary folk with Vaginas. As we are a woman's fest, we do have the draw the line somewhere though: sadly that means that anyone in a male body that doesn't FULLY identify as a woman cannot come, we see you and love you, but the woman's work we are doing would be disrupted if there was male energy in a male body (this extends to trans-men too)

www.womanfest.co.uk/additional-info.html

OldCrone · 01/07/2018 14:35

They’re no more male (or female) then AFAB non-binary people!

I'm struggling to understand this statement, dinosaur. What are your definitions of male and female in this context?

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 14:38

I think it’s great that they’re so inclusive - irritating that nb people who were assigned male at birth aren’t allowed, though. They’re no more male (or female) then AFAB non-binary people!

Is that what they are saying? They have said explicitly they are happy for people with vaginas but not people with penises.

What group is the "non-binary people with penises"? Are these people who say they are neither men or woman? In which case why do they want to go to a women only festival anyway?

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 14:42

We invite all Woman! This includes trans-women and non-binary folk with Vaginas. As we are a woman's fest, we do have the draw the line somewhere though: sadly that means that anyone in a male body that doesn't FULLY identify as a woman cannot come, we see you and love you, but the woman's work we are doing would be disrupted if there was male energy in a male body (this extends to trans-men too)

I'm no wiser.

OldCrone · 01/07/2018 14:42

anyone in a male body that doesn't FULLY identify as a woman cannot come

I wonder what it means to FULLY identify as a woman (in contrast, presumably, to only PARTLY identifying as a woman)?

the woman's work we are doing would be disrupted if there was male energy in a male body (this extends to trans-men too)

So transmen have male energy in male bodies, and people who FULLY identify as women (but who have male bodies) don't have male bodies, or maybe they just don't have 'male energy in male bodies'. Confused

Sarahconnor1 · 01/07/2018 14:48

I read that as anyone who identifies as a women is in, even if the person has a penis. Your out if you don't identify are a women, so trans men who may have a vagina isn't welcome neither are non binary folks with a male body.

Not sure if I could go as I don't identify as a women, I am guessing not. Confused

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 14:52

I know this is petty but-

If you have an additional dietary requirements outside of being Vegan, Gluten or Diary Free . It is "dairy: free and as this is written in English please do not use random capitalisation.

Please just advice us on the ‘Note To Seller’ section of the ticket sale that you will be bring a child, with details of the child’s name and age - it is "advise" and please see comment about random capitalisation.

We also wish to include Woman’s daughters, who have passed their Menarche - "women's daughters". How pleased the copywriter must have been to crowbar in "menarche" (no capital necessary)

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 01/07/2018 15:02

HungryHippie, here's an informative Michfest link to get you started.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 01/07/2018 15:05

Lass, I'm petty about that sort of detail too. If they're sloppy about that they'll likely be sloppy about other things too.

They certainly haven't used any precision of thought in deciding and defining who's welcome.

noeffingidea · 01/07/2018 15:07

So far she's sold 150 places and is confident the other 250 places will be sold. I honestly wouldn't hold your breath there, love.

sexnotgender · 01/07/2018 15:21

Wow, I’m surprised they found 150 people crazy enough to go!

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 15:25

We do have a noise restriction on the site, and are working on developing an on-going good relationship with our neighbours. Therefore drumming will be kept to a minimum and at certain times

How a minimum of none and never?

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 15:26

How about ....

Sarahconnor1 · 01/07/2018 15:34

Everyone coming is asked to help in the kitchen once at the festival. 20 or so gather for an hour and get to put our love into the food for everyone else

£225 for a ticket and your still dragged back into the kitchen. Also if you sneak in booze you will be kicked off site.

I'm sensing it's not my kind of thing, especially with the drums.
