Congratulations on a healthy baby! Hope the birth went safely and that you are recovering well.

I just hate surrogacy in case you can't tell

Poor woman never got a mention they behaved like the fairies brought the baby. I am iffy about surrogacy because mostly you never hear of her existence

BertrandRussell · 01/07/2018 09:32

Mother? Sorry? Was there one?

LML83 · 01/07/2018 09:32

Yes, congratulations to all. Hope mum is recovering well, an amazing thing you have done. Looks like a happy family.

LML83 · 01/07/2018 09:33

Did the 'poor woman' want a mention? Perhaps they are respecting her privacy. I am sure they must be very grateful.

ChickenMe · 01/07/2018 09:34

Yes they're "not able to have a child" because they are both male. No mention of the mother - presumably it was her egg?

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/07/2018 09:35

She has asked to remain anonymous, they all have a close relationship

MotherOfDragons27 · 01/07/2018 09:35

You shouldn't presume. Could have been a donor egg.

MrsJayy · 01/07/2018 09:35

I am sure they are very grateful but they are acting like they did it all themselves

NonSuchFun · 01/07/2018 09:36

"It will always be the people who need money who are selling; the wealthy will be the consumers/buyers."

Surrogacy appalls me. When rich women start having babies for poor couples you can ask me to revise my views.

Vile entitled men if you ask me.

LangCleg · 01/07/2018 09:38

Feel the same way. I can see my way to some limited forms of altruistic surrogacy. But commercial surrogacy? Nope.

Fevs · 01/07/2018 09:41

What bizarre comments. How amazing to be able to give a couple the opportunity to have a child. No one knows anything about their situation / the surrogate. Who’s to say she is rich or poor and I would bet her being anonymous is her decision.
Often family members are surrogates for their siblings - does that not sit well either or is this story really a problem for some people because it’s for a same sex couple? 🤔
Either way, if they bring the child up surrounded by love then who are we to criticise?

Fees give a couple a child you say how about "Take away a child's mother"

BertrandRussell · 01/07/2018 09:45

Absolutely no reason to. And her if she did not want to be named. But the complete denial of her existence is disgraceful.

MizCracker · 01/07/2018 09:45

I saw in the other thread a lot of people were saying “I bet you don’t mind when a heterosexual couple use a surrogate”. Nope, I find the trend for celebrities paying women to undergo the messy business of pregnancy for them (I’m not buying that Kim Kardashian’s life was on the line if she got pregnant again - and hey, she could just consider not having another child if it were true) abhorrent as well.

I don’t think you can read about the surrogacy trade in India and not start questioning surrogacy as a whole.

Pratchet · 01/07/2018 09:46

Erm no it's nothing to do with it being a same sex couple Hmm talk about missing the point

I agree with Lang about altruistic surrogacy, and I think women who donate eggs are complete heroines as that is a very difficult business.

But commercial surrogacy? That is women's bodies again being designated a commercially-neogotiable vessel. No, do not want.

Guacamoledip · 01/07/2018 09:47

I can’t even figure out if these posts are supposed to be satirical?
Child abuse?
This women gave an amazing gift of a baby and parenthood to a loving couple who were unable to naturally conceive themselves.
Nobody is acting like it didn’t happen, I think she probably wants her privacy. She knows she did an incredible thing, they know she did an incredible thing. The rest is nothing to do with any of you.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2018 09:47

I would be of the same opinion as most of the views on this thread if it were a heterosexual couple.

LangCleg · 01/07/2018 09:49

is this story really a problem for some people because it’s for a same sex couple?

No: it's about poor women's bodies being a commercial product for rich people, whether they be heterosexual or homosexual.

I find it very sad that women are so invisible to you.

Pratchet · 01/07/2018 09:49

Gave an amazing gift to a loving couple..incredible

Oh please. We are all adults here.

PlateOfBiscuits · 01/07/2018 09:49

Is it the involvement of money in surrogacy that you don’t like?

BertrandRussell · 01/07/2018 09:50

I object very strongly to the exploitation of women's bodies, whether commercial or not and regardless of the sexuality of the exploiters.

Skydiving · 01/07/2018 09:50

Well this thread will probably go the same way as the other.
Deleted comments all over.
People accusing posters of homophobia because they raised concerns about the ethics of surrogacy.

But fwiw op I agree entirely.

LangCleg · 01/07/2018 09:50

I agree with Lang about altruistic surrogacy

In some limited areas, it would be like altruistic donation of a kidney to a relative, wouldn't it?

The second money comes into it, it's wrong.
