That would mean that the structural barriers women faced in their careers were rooted in female reproductive biology and we can't be referencing pesky awkward facts like that, now, can we?

Do not get me started on that one... Grin

Cheers all! Will report back when successful delivery of infant has occurred (fingers crossed.)

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 28/06/2018 13:37

Happy maternity leave

Thanks
Prawnofthepatriarchy · 28/06/2018 14:12

Have a lovely maternity leave, Bowl. If you get too hot a child's paddling pool in the garden is bliss. Bear

I'd guess you'll have more time for Mumsnet rather than less. It's the sort of thing that easily fits round anything else you're doing.

OlennasWimple · 28/06/2018 14:19

Blimey Bowl, there you are, flaunting your c*s privilege and your elitist female biology. .. Wink

Congratulations Flowers

BaronessBlonde · 28/06/2018 14:24

Bowl I don't "know" you on here but congrats from a stranger and best wishes for your final few weeks.

CaptainBrickbeard · 28/06/2018 14:34

Oh, is Damnthat not coming back then? I can’t imagine why...

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 28/06/2018 14:55

Wow. That's great. Thank you. Is yours GCSE, or not that up to date? Because I'm getting a bit fedup with hearing from people who think the stuff they learned in the first year or two of secondary school trumps the expertise of serious research scientists and consultant-level specialist clinicians.

Anyone else been calculating the time taken to achieve all those amazing academic qualifications and professional life .... AND still be young and fertile enough to be “ a little bit pregnant “?? Very impressive.

God I'm cringing so much I think I might have performed some accidental genital surgery on myself Shock

thebewilderness · 28/06/2018 15:44

Damn2 is having their narcissistic rage meltdown on the Reality thread.

R0wantrees · 28/06/2018 17:23

Bowlofbabelfish very good wishes and best hopes for a safe arrival.

Also thanks for all your posts in recent months, I've learned a lot from you (not just the sciency stuff!).

I have long admired your calm, informed, civil contributions (often in the face of rather uncivil replies)

Indeed and your level of education has been transparent in your posts. Many congratulations on your pregnancy and thanks everyone for making me laugh more than I have in a long time.

CaptainBrickbeard · 28/06/2018 18:30

thebewilderness that meltdown is very telling!

PersonWithAVulva · 29/06/2018 10:30

Oh I do love when TRAs try the advanced biology card when Bowl is around. Grin

Shamelessly placemarking.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/06/2018 13:14

Did damn not come back?

CaptainBrickbeard · 29/06/2018 15:17

Rufus of course not. I think Bowl won that particular challenge!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/06/2018 15:29

Well colour me disappointed Sad

MnerXX · 29/06/2018 16:45

Excellent work Bowl and hope you manage to get some respite before the arrival of your DC. It must be tricky in the heat!

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/06/2018 16:46

It is but I am DONE with work as of about ten mins ago! Woooohooooo!!!

Far too hot though.. urgh.

LangCleg · 29/06/2018 16:54

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/06/2018 17:02

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 29/06/2018 17:37

Happy maternity leave, oh bowl shaped Bowl! It's a precious time.

enoughisenough12 · 29/06/2018 17:42

Yay Bowl.
Now you can educate us with your vast GCSE knowledge of biology and science (& other issues) for days on end as put your feet up and eat cake Cake
Enjoy. It's a great time.

PlanetPiffle · 29/06/2018 17:55

Excellent article. Not sure my dd would understand all of it but I may give her a crack at it because I can't seem to explain the trans issue to her without sounding like I have something against trans people in general - she's at the terribly right-on teenage stage and I am just a terrible old woman she's related to.

Bowl - I bow to your scholarly achievements. Awesome. Enjoy the rest of your pg (as much as one can when aching and puking). Bundle of joy...worth it... Bear Flowers

PeakPants · 29/06/2018 19:19

Damn you were OWNED there. GCSE my arse. It's like when Snappity purports to be a legal expert....

I think people like damn get confused by the kindness and politeness extended to trans people by many leading medical professionals. They are being kind to you- none of them ACTUALLY think you have changed sex because they know that is possible.

In terms of the biological knowledge you need in order to grasp this, it probably is about GCSE level, yes. Which means that more or less anyone is actually qualified to talk about this.

thebewilderness · 30/06/2018 03:28

I remember being pregnant in the summertime.
