Money doesn't buy consent. What sort horrible message does that not send out to men and women in general? Men shouldn't be allowed to buy sexual access to women who doesn't want them.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/06/2018 11:46

Money doesn’t buy consent ? You seem very misguided

I expect shortly you will trot out some codswallop about us all being wage slaves. And so help me if you come up with that hackneyed old chestnut about being a prostitute being better than burger flipping at McDonald's my response will definitely get me deleted.

LemonJello · 23/06/2018 11:48

If you think the feminist abolitionist position is about condemning and criminalising the women, perhaps you should read a bit more around that? Because it’s not, and you’re missing a very fundamental point.

^This.

For someone who has written a thesis you are not showing much understanding of the issues.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/06/2018 11:56

That's a politer way of putting it than I did Lemonjello !

78, Have you read Rachel's book? She has endured a horrendous backlash from "feminists" like you, who have never had to fuck strangers for money but who think they can defend it as a "career", happily ignoring the slavery and trafficking and violence. She says it's worse than the original abuse itself. In Ireland there has been a smear campaign suggesting she made the whole thing up so she actually had to dig up the policeman who found her in a brothel at 16. But sure, just any job, isn't it?

Southfields · 23/06/2018 11:59

"why don't they do a visit to a brothel and have a go at the job themselves by servicing a punter? "

Abso-fucking LUTELY this

In fact, everyone who argues in favour of prostitution, no exceptions, must service a random punter, the first to phone or call in, no cherry picking.

ReluctantCamper · 23/06/2018 12:02

Money doesn’t buy consent ? You seem very misguided

Riiight

Why can't money buy you consent to purchase a kidney?

Is it because we recognise that when money is changing hands consent can never be entirely freely given?

Why can you buy sex with money?

Is it because providing access to women's bodies is more important to our society than morality?

Southfields · 23/06/2018 12:06

"I have worked in areas of sex work - not prostitution"

IT manager for a lapdancing club?

Receptionist at a "sauna" offering extras?

Fitting fire alarms at a brothel?

Putting up the shelves in a sex shop?

Southfields · 23/06/2018 12:10

And by the way, what is wrong with having morals?

I see people being shamed for being moral.

Without morals society would descend into a cesspit of selfish, thoughtless, vile behaviour towards others.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/06/2018 12:11

Oh goodness Southfields I've just burst out laughing at your post in the middle of a Waterstone's coffee shop.

doctorcuntybollocks · 23/06/2018 12:12

Pimping?

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/06/2018 12:13

Oh dear- terrible cross post there Southfields. I meant the one about putting up shelves- not the one at 12.10 which I fully endorse.

ThisisSparta · 23/06/2018 12:16

In fact, everyone who argues in favour of prostitution, no exceptions, must service a random punter, the first to phone or call in, no cherry picking

I would definitely vote for this!

CatsandKids78

If you worked on the fringes of ‘sex work’ (hate that term) then what stopped you going the full hog and selling your body for the use of others sexual gratification?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 23/06/2018 12:16

In fact, everyone who argues in favour of prostitution, no exceptions, must service a random punter, the first to phone or call in, no cherry picking.

Couldn't agree more: honestly don't see how anyone can reasonably expect their arguments that this is a legitimate job be taken seriously unless they themselves have done some work experience....

Also agree with everything Lass said

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 23/06/2018 12:17

There's always a prostitution advocate on any of these discussions......

A thesis indeed....🤔

ReluctantCamper · 23/06/2018 12:23

There's always a prostitution advocate on any of these discussions

And thank goodness there is. The arguments against them brought me round from choosy choice to what the fuck?

SittingAround1 · 23/06/2018 12:33

I agree money doesn't buy you consent. It's pure exploitation of vunerable women and women's traditionally weaker position in society.
You always hear arguments about how it's a choice, they're happy to do it. I don't believe that for one minute.

Why do women have to be trafficked, start so young in a lot of cases and quite often previously abused if it's such an acceptable job?

You'll never get nice middle class girls being encouraged to do it even as a holiday, earn a bit of extra cash job. Why not if it's really not that bad?

Ask any bloke how he would feel if his mother was a prositute -their answers will tell you a lot about how it's really viewed by men.

Lifesavingorange · 23/06/2018 12:33

Another one who agrees. Go and fuck a few sweaty punters for money, perhaps they’ll even leave you a delightful review like the ones on PunterNet www.change.org/p/stop-punternet-com-from-operating

THEN come back here and tell us that sex work is empowering, a career choice, that we are SWERFs for thinking that a society where women can be bought by men is not a decent society.

You and every other clueless libfem out there who defends the exploitation of women’s bodies should have to walk in these women’s shoes for a day.

And NOBODY is passing moral judgement on prostituted women. Just the men who buy their bodies, and the clueless women who defend them cause they think it’s a woke thing to do.

PS please sign the petition!

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/06/2018 12:37

Everyone on this thread, with the obvious exception, has made good points. I particularly like the suggestion that any promoting prostitution as being just a job should service a punter.

The views on here shouldn't even need to be argued as a feminist position- they are a no brainer to the basic entry level of being a decent human being.

LemonJello · 23/06/2018 12:41

You always hear arguments about how it's a choice, they're happy to do it. I don't believe that for one minute.

I don’t care if they are happy. I still don’t want to live an a society which thinks buying women’s bodies is acceptable. If they really are perfectly happy then I’m sure they will also be perfectly happy doing something else!

And yes, also agree that if you’re advocating for prostitution then go and fuck some rancid specimin then we’ll talk.

LemonJello · 23/06/2018 12:42

Do you have a link to the petition?

Lifesavingorange · 23/06/2018 12:45

Here Lemon

TheChampagneGalop · 23/06/2018 12:50

If anyone feels a bit unsure if they support men buying women or not, they should read the punters' words in that link.^

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/06/2018 12:52

Seconding LemonJellos post about the happiness of the individual happy hooker not being an acceptable trade off for the societal damage.
