Serious answers only please.
*With acknowledgement to Bowl, who has raised this so often. Apologies if this is repeating a thread from the past (?): in any case, maybe it's time for another thread with this title.

Please, no wordy arguments about how sex can be changed by legal instrument around the world, just answer the question posed.

No but if they have gone the full journey and had "all the gear realigned" I think it's right to say they are now a different sex legally.

Flame me if you want, I've not read up on all this and that's my view right now.

That's my initial thought.

Not says by I can't change it if I look at different points of view.

If someone hasn't done this, it's a case by case surely. And I don't mean these people who just say one day "I identify as this" and expect us all to agree. But for the legalities of the law, I stand by the above about going the full journey so to speak.

Ie Kevin who had lived as a women for ten years is different to Dave who just decided on Wednesday he's a women now.

As you can see, I'm not read up in this but I would like to get into some discussions about this

itsbritneybiatch · 15/06/2018 22:28

Or gender I can't keep up and I'm not sure of the right terminology anymore!

ChattyLion · 15/06/2018 22:29

Of course not, physically.

Adults can use the Gender Recognition Act to ‘change their sex’ for purposes of their legal documentation, so in a purely legal sense of representing personal identity, it ispossible ‘to change sex’.

But that is a good example of a legal fiction.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 15/06/2018 22:31

Britney, you’ve come to the right place then. Smile

No.

AnotherQuoll · 15/06/2018 22:34

No. Humans cannot change sex.

itsbritneybiatch · 15/06/2018 22:34

So if someone had had all the ops, are we happy they are legally then allowed the same legal protections/rights as the gender or sex they now are/appear as?

TeamRick · 15/06/2018 22:35

No

Bowednotbroken · 15/06/2018 22:35

itsbritneybiatch · 15/06/2018 22:36

Except the obvious ones they wouldn't need like ie name to female surgery, wouldn't need a smear? Female to male wouldn't need whatever it is they'd need?

Newspeak · 15/06/2018 22:38

ItsBrit I would say I would be generally happy with this (can only speak for myself) but with some exceptions such as sport, rape crisis centres etc

No humans cannot change sex. We are not a species where sequential hermaphroditism occurs.

itsbritneybiatch · 15/06/2018 22:41

Ok thanks.

Yep I agree for sport etc. Totally agree.

And then it all becomes a bit clearer eh

I did listen to that lovely lady can't think of her name now, after reading by a thread on this.

She's a gay lady with a lovely voice. From London or around there.

Bit sad as the last you tube video I listened to on a work drive was where she had a brain issue.

Did she get better? What was her name? She was lovely to listen to.

Racking my brains now.

tobee · 15/06/2018 22:45

No.

Even if it makes people sad or angry.

PeakPants · 15/06/2018 22:50

I think you’re thinking of Magdalene Berns, Brit. As far as I know she had an operation and most of her brain tumour was removed. Sadly she was attacked recently.

dianebrewster · 15/06/2018 22:57

No.

The law can create a legal fiction that sex change can happen, but it's a legal fiction.

Southfields · 15/06/2018 22:59

Egginacup please detail the scientific, biological process by which this sex change happens.

What prompts it? What happens during it? How long does the change take? What changes does the body make to itself?

I haven't RTFT, but the answer is obvious.

Of course they can't. They don't have to. Trans XY people who want to be XX people don't have to change because they have special girly XY chromosomes (along with their ladybrains and girly penis) and therefore are already the sex they want to be.

Or something like that.

AncientLights · 15/06/2018 23:02

Of course they can't.

Southfields I believe that if someone has had gender reassignment surgery they have the right to be considered that gender. And that sex. I know I’ll get shouted down, but that’s what I think. And I am a feminist.

I also don’t see the point of this thread because it’s clearly designed to get a certain viewpoint and that’s it. But I felt the need to reply because I used to really enjoy the feminism boards and now feel like they have been overtaken by those with one agenda.

There are bigger feminist issues to fight than transgender issues. Much more important ones. I don’t get the current obsession.
