Serious answers only please.
*With acknowledgement to Bowl, who has raised this so often. Apologies if this is repeating a thread from the past (?): in any case, maybe it's time for another thread with this title.

Please, no wordy arguments about how sex can be changed by legal instrument around the world, just answer the question posed.

OP, why do you ask the question? And how is it relevant to FWR?

Why don't you send us a list of approved discussion topics?

No, humans can't change sex.

AllHailTheSunDog · 15/06/2018 22:00

No

starzig · 15/06/2018 22:01

XO is where you have 1 X chromosome and no second (x or y). It is called Turner's syndrome and sufferers are considered female but are infertile.

PeakPants · 15/06/2018 22:06

Chromosomally, no. In law, yes according to the wording of the GRA 2004.
What does this add though? Don’t we already know the answers to both the biology and law aspects of this question?

Sorry, no!

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 22:09

No

ResistanceIsNecessary · 15/06/2018 22:09

Biologically - no.
According to UK law - yes.

I am female. I am also infertile. My infertility does not remove my biological sex. I have XY chromosomes, I have a vagina, uterus, cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes. I have the sex organs in place associated with female fertility - whether they work or not is irrelevant.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 15/06/2018 22:09

In law, yes according to the wording of the GRA 2004

Is that right? Thought that just conferred on you the right to be treated as the opposite sex? Not some actual legal transubstantiation.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/06/2018 22:11

Yes, infertile women are still women, and infertile men are still men.*

No, you can't change sex.

*The only people suggesting that they might not be are trans activists attempting a rather offensive gotcha.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 15/06/2018 22:12

No

LightofaSilveryMoon · 15/06/2018 22:12

No, human beings cannot change sex. It is biologically impossible.

Legislative chicanery is just that - legislative chicanery. Or to use plainer words - a total and utter lie.

OunceOfFlounce · 15/06/2018 22:12

No.

We all know why this is relevant. If a person can't change sex a trans woman is not a woman so they need their own protections, spaces etc, instead of appropriating women's rights.

PerfectlyDone · 15/06/2018 22:14

Biologically, no.

Legally, yes.

Onlyinanemergency · 15/06/2018 22:16

No

MaterialReality · 15/06/2018 22:18

No. It's completely impossible.

A person legally changing sex has as much basis in objective reality as a corporation legally being a person. It is a convenient fiction. No actual change takes place.

PeakPants · 15/06/2018 22:19

certainHalf yes it is in section 9(1) of the act. It says that the sex becomes the opposite of the biological one.

hazeyjane · 15/06/2018 22:19

It is called Turner's syndrome and sufferers are considered female but are infertile.
are female, surely, as opposed to considered female .

Fertility isn't a determiner of sex

PeakPants · 15/06/2018 22:20

Yes agree it is a legal fiction. Doesn’t take things much further forward though.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 15/06/2018 22:20

No, obviously. And no one actually genuinely truly believes they can and that TWAW or TMAM. No one.

JoyTheUnicorn · 15/06/2018 22:21

No.

MrsWooster · 15/06/2018 22:21

No.

auntiebasil · 15/06/2018 22:22

No.

mancheeze · 15/06/2018 22:23

NO!

I defy anyone who thinks this is possible to explain the biological mechanisms involved. Otherwise, you're just insane.

ColoursOfRain · 15/06/2018 22:26

No.

But I think this is the wrong board to ask this question on. By default you are likely to get the answer you want.

Maybe the question should be posted on a board that is less self selecting. Then you might get a more accurate representation.
