Come on, you wonderful women, I’m making a last push here to invite you down to Truro, Cornwall. Come and hear Posie Parker, Miranda Yardley, Jean Hatchet and Judith Green speak. You know you want to....

Tickets still available at Eventbrite

You are so right. I have spoken to several people IRL now and these discussions have helped me order my thoughts. To my delight, I have been pushing at an open door. I have donated. I have written a letter that got published. I am going to a meeting. If and when this comes up at my workplace I will be ready

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 20:57

Well done everyone!

LangCleg · 09/06/2018 20:59

I enjoyed that, even if it was only via the live stream!

lostplot · 09/06/2018 20:59

Gutted I couldn't make it but hope it's going well. So proud that something is happening in this neck of the woods!

BingBongSong · 09/06/2018 21:02

Thanks for live streaming. I only managed to catch Sweary and Jean but found your talks inspiring. I finally got a cut and paste reply from my MP after 3 months and 3 letters from me, and was really disheartened that he didn't mention women until the 6th (final) paragraph of his reply. Sickened, actually.

Please come closer to the North West!

The recording us up here:

Please come closer to the North West!

WPUK goes places by invitation - you should invite them!

(Disclaimer - I know this wasn't WPUK).

Or, you could set up your own meeting and invite people, which is what Truro are planning to do next I think.

Hackedoffwoman · 09/06/2018 21:21

I watched the live stream. Well done all. Hope you are enjoying a well earned drink in the pub now.

AwakeCantSleep · 09/06/2018 21:38

Brilliant meeting. Am now talking to interesting, clever women over pom bears and wine Smile

2rebecca · 09/06/2018 22:16

Caught about half of it live. Excellent, well done women, and those who spoke from the floor. Will watch the rest later

HarryLovesDraco · 09/06/2018 22:51

How were the protesters? Were there any?

MrsSteveMcDonald · 09/06/2018 23:00

I didn't see any protesters, I walked back to my car on my own with no problems. The food made me smile, it couldn't have been any more mumsnet if it tried.

AwakeCantSleep · 09/06/2018 23:03

No protesters to be seen.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 09/06/2018 23:40

'Twas great. Lovely to hear sense and swearing. Lovely to meet other sensible, sweary people. Thanks to the organisers.

Sad that WPUK and Posie can't kiss and make up. It's a fractured and fragmented movement as it is.

But, hopefully there's a germinating seed of a local movement now.

Great to meet South West feminists.

Writersblock2 · 10/06/2018 01:01

Absolutely brilliant meeting! I’m about to crash in bed but just wanted to post here first. Everyone was so good: Jean’s speech was vital and made me teary (more than once), Posie was full of fierce, beautiful spirit, and Hannah was so inspirational and uplifting. Also huge thanks to our Chairwoman - fab job.

I loved speaking to many women after - wish I could have spoken to more of you. What a hugely worthwhile experience it was.

Special, huge thanks to all of the women who rocked up and helped out: moving chairs, meeting and greeting etc. You are all wonderful.

And yes, there will be more. Because we have loads of support, and because we think more women should be heard.

Let a Woman Speak, damnit! BiscuitBear

Safely home and tucked.up. Still buzzing from the fabulous meeting and the energy in that room. So glad to have made contact with other local women . From these little acorns, big oaks will grow. Many thanks to the organisers.

CorbynTrouserPress · 10/06/2018 02:00

Brilliant, brilliant women (and the men). I wish I'd had longer to talk to all of you. Grin

Good to meet so many local women and huge appreciation for those that drove long distances to speak or listen. And an especial shout out to those that supported the event from afar with encouragement and donations.

Italiangreyhound · 10/06/2018 03:12

Just watched this. Brilliant. Really excellent.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 10/06/2018 08:10

Awesome live streaming - felt part of even tho a long way away!!

I loved Jean's input as often survivors of male violence don't get their voices heard, never mind those whose lives were taken by male offenders. This is a life or death matter. It's not about semantics or some minority's rights - it's about keeping women and children alive and unharmed from those who can't contain themselves and who put others at risk.

Well done Posie for fronting up and encouraging dissent in our ranks along with the cohesiveness of women standing up and saying NO.

Sweary - great to see you in person and for such clarity and courage about confronting this self ID nonsense and the people who, wittingly and unwittingly, enable the erosion of women's and children's safeguards and put them actively in harm's way.

Lousie (and all the other organisers) - many, many thanks

Writersblock2 · 10/06/2018 08:35

Thanks everyone! Pinching myself this morning - we did it! Grin

Now I’m going to roll up my sleeves and start on the next phase of Let a Woman Speak.

If anyone wants to stay in touch or help please email [email protected]

And for those who want an event in their area? Do it! Organise! You don’t need someone else’s name to work under. Women will support you as they did us. It was the best experience.

Fabulous meeting! The South West has come up trumps Smile Thanks to Rachael and the other local organisers for being brave enough to do this on their own.

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 09:01

You don’t need someone else’s name to work under.

It's lovely to see you so energised by this, Writersblock2.

And you are right - there is room for many different groups with all shades of fuck yous to the TRA agenda. The worst scenario for them is that dozens of women's groups start popping up all over and that there is not one central "authority" in WPUK for them to take aim at.
