She's a liar. She says no such thing to Venice and Julia who were sat behind.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/05/2018 15:14

"I'm an academic too I'm an equal'

Well she is delusional enough to think human beings can magically change sex so it's no great surprise that she imagines she is intellectually equal to GG.

LittleLebowski · 17/05/2018 15:15

I can't stand to watch, but I did see Ash Sarkar on Question Time - she's very Momentum, and while obviously intelligent and articulate is completely full of herself.
I think it's an aspect of the snowflake thing - convinced that every thought and opinion must be heeded and given equal weighting even to that of someone like Germaine who has decades of publishing, campaigning and experience. I think it's so cringey and her Twitter reflects that.
I had a run-in with a similar type Uni LGBT rep on Twitter replies to an article by Hadley Freeman. This person was all "Oh really Hadley, come on..." like she was some equally respected and published journalist. She then went on to question Dr Nic's stats on trans offending rates like she herself had a PhD.
It's either massive self-confidence or total lack of self-awareness. I think Ash will be embarrassed by it one day.

GollyGoshGreat · 17/05/2018 15:20

Seriously?

Ereshkigal · 17/05/2018 15:21

way too try hard

One thing both Ash and Shon cannot be accused of, is not trying hard enough. If being a try hard was an Olympic sport, they would fight it out for the gold.

GollyGoshGreat · 17/05/2018 15:22

Sorry pressed send too soon - this wast reaction to 1.03 onwards!

DJLippy · 17/05/2018 15:26

Please tell me this didn't actually happen or else I might just die of embarassment for Ash Sarkar. I hope Germaine Greer absolutely pissed herself laughing

This is verbatim Ash's own description of events

I’ve heard from someone who knows that in RL Ash is known to be a pretty sad case who still lives at home and all the ‘fucks like a champion’ stuff is just flannel.

nauticant · 17/05/2018 15:53

That's a shame. I was hoping that although her work is just an adult version of a toddler proudly presenting a full potty, she was having a terrific time in real life.

wishiwassizeeight · 17/05/2018 15:54

Apparently not.

She is without a doubt one of the most annoying people I have ever seen on TV.

R0wantrees · 17/05/2018 15:58

By way of relief... there are some great links on this thread:

PermissionToSpeakSir · 17/05/2018 16:04

I find it interesting that Ash Sarkar has links with Laurie Penny - she immediately reminded me of how irritating, arrogant and ageist LP was when she first got a platform.

All LP was going on about was how they needed more young people to spout ill-informed shite in the media and how nobody was listening to the shite spouted by young people. She had everyone on the back foot.

I wonder how LP feels about it all now that she's getting long in the tooth herself? Maybe she is passing the arrogant, ignorant shite-spouting baton to Ash Sarhar.

Ereshkigal · 17/05/2018 16:10

Permission

Ask her. She's here on another thread. The one she found by googling herself.

LangCleg · 17/05/2018 16:36

It's all a bit 90s ladette.

It really, really, is.

Ash will be presenting a tea time show meta analysing a reality TV competition in twenty years time!

So rad.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 17/05/2018 16:47

Ash Sarkar was the chair at the event that Clive Lewis made his 'on your knees bitch' comment. She was very keen to defend him

crispbuttyfan · 17/05/2018 17:02

gendercritter
Who is this Ash woman? She seems to possess a half-decent brain. She should be able to understand the nuance of the debate. Why is she so happy to screw over women?

Almost a cigar.... clue, she does understand the nuance of the debate.... because she has taken time to listen to trans women, and had a trans friend.

The nuance of the debate is entirely lost on some who prefer to watch or read anything to do with trans whilst looking for a gotcha... rather than try to understand.

R0wantrees · 17/05/2018 17:09

I think the interest in Ash Sarkar comes from her being on the Channel 4 GenderQuake debate. Many people won't have known anything about her prior to the program.
We may well have read or listened to Germaine Greer.

TerfsUp · 17/05/2018 17:16

Guess who was a regular contributor to Novara Media? If you guessed Shon Faye you would be correct.

Ash Sarkar is the most annoying panellist I've ever seen in Question Time. And that's saying something. And as for being GG's intellectual equal! Obviously delusional as well

OrchidInTheSun · 17/05/2018 17:35

crispbutty - I have a number of trans friends. Aren't you bored yet with your tiny violin?

SirVixofVixHall · 17/05/2018 17:36

I lasted 30 seconds...I’m sorry . It was the mock teenage girl arm gestures and pouting..I just couldn’t go on.

Lottapianos · 17/05/2018 17:40

'This is verbatim Ash's own description of events'

In that case I have just died of embarassment on her behalf and am now a ghost Grin

Sneering at Germaine Greer and flicking her hair at her? Dear god. I hope GG enjoyed the moment and wasn't just depressed by it
