Dr Adrian Harrop, who the funk does he think he is?

If you're not familiar with this supposed physician (yes, really), then you need to get over to Twitter and see this.

Harrop seems to spend most of his time harassing and insulting natal women whilst unquestionably supporting trans women. He is hiding behind his "medical expertise" and using it to shout women down.

It's both hilarious and terrifying! Shock

That's not really an apology. It wasn't his cultural relativism so much and implies he's sorry people felt that way, rather than that he said anything wrong.

I think he got drunk on the misogynistic power of the Twatter platform and allowed his (vile) mask to slip. No amount of non-apologies will make this perception go away. Sorry, Adrian, the damage is done. We all saw the picture in your attic.

It looks like he thinks that he might just have got away with the endorsing death threats thing.

"I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it"

"I acknowledge my failure to recognise the potential offence my statement made.“

There are a number of Dr Harrop's statements which may benefit from better understanding.

As James Kirkup commented in his article 'Fear & Loathing Grips the Gender Debate'
(extract)

"because those women have been – quite successfully and even skilfully – demonised and stigmatised, put beyond the pale of civilised debate as those who question orthodoxy often are. They’ve been given a name, a name that means they’re bad people, people who should not speak and should not be heard. That name is “Terf,” which once meant “Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist” but now appears to stand in its own right as a term of abuse and dismissal alongside the other short, harsh words often used to question the worth and virtue of women.

And that small number of people who direct violence and abuse at “Terfs” are swimming in a larger sea of contempt and dismissal. Their conduct takes place in a social context where hostility to “Terfs” has become not just normal but even amusing, where there is no social cost to talking about and perhaps even inciting violence towards women who hold “unacceptable” views. Simply, some people, including people who would never themselves engage in that sort of violence, are doing things that make violent discourse and even violence look and feel OK. Sadly, they include journalists and politicians, people who parade their support for minority groups but speak about feminist women in terms they would never use about other people."

Ha - rubbish, back-covering non-apology. (After "standing by everything he said" beforehand).

Drunk on his own misogynistic power is spot on.

I find him and Dr C very, very sinister. Porn in schools, child marriage "ok if it's cultural, ugh ugh ugh. Creepy bloody men.

The good Doctor rather comes across as a modern day Witchfinder General looking to denounce and burn what he sees as heretics (not that he's alone in this, as Brendan O'Neill points out www.spiked-online.com/newsite/article/a-manifesto-for-heresy/21379)

Interesting. Dr C hasn’t felt compelled to apologise for his part in the conversation, I’m not sure he does any work for the NHS anymore what with TV and private practice. And the GMC would never work that fast. So I’m guessing Dr A is at the stage of GP training where he is associated with a GP practice, probably a colleague or mentor had a word in his ear about child protection. Meanwhile no apology for misogyny and delight in a woman receiving death threats.

Dr Christian is presumably entirely in TV work and private practice - anyone contracting him, or seeing him privately knows what they are getting.

Dr Adrian is either still in GP training so his GP trainer has potentially had a word as he will be bound by an NHS HR department, or he will be looking for work. Yes he could locum entirely and if he is good then given the state of GP right now, he may find a practice that doesn't care about his social media behaviour. But as an salaried GP or GP partner, nobody is going to mind about you being an activist but people are going to mind about posts that look like delight in a woman receiving death threats or relativism about child sex. Especially if it takes up loads of practice time deally with complaints about you.

Basically Dr Adrian isn't in nearly as strong a position as Dr Christian in terms of making a living.

When he's not telling a woman that she is a terrible mother who has probably harmed her child because she has struggled in some ways as single mother in a sexist society and dares talk about that, he's telling women that we are just a bunch of stereotypes men can ID into, thereby erasing our sex based oppression, and he's saying that child rape is fine when those girls aren't white and aren't being raped by white men, and he's referring to feminists as 'a coven', and telling us we should 'learn' from death threats from men, that we're just awful witches who need to submit to male authority.

While he's doing all this he is totally getting off on abusing women. I blocked him on Twitter and advised others to do so for this reason.

OMG AssignedPuuurfect I hadn’t seen that one. He’s really truly awful. I bet he’s popular with the nurses and other women he works with, (most nurses and many Dr’s being female).

Yes, should really spare the blood pressure and block him and Dr C but then I think I should keep an eye on them. Dr C is drunk on his intellectual superiority and TV success, he thinks he is invincible but pride before a fall and all that.

Yes, unruly women must be "educated" and "learn their lesson".

Aunt Lydia-style, no doubt.

leyat · 11/05/2018 12:43

You know what though, we aren't the only ones who see this. He was literally tweeting GIFs of witches last night in reference to feminist women, in addition to calling us 'a coven'. The fact that these brocialists are so clearly and publicly reveling in their misogyny is backfiring. And of course now he's defending child female rape, he's gonna find himself increasingly lonely; he will forever be that man now.

nauticant · 11/05/2018 12:50

At some point there's going to be some thorough deleting of tweets from his twitter account, Toby Young style. I wish there was an app that worked as a twitter hoover so you could point it at a particular account and it would save all the tweets.

At the moment he seems unaware that looking like someone who gets off on scolding women is not a good look.

Pro tip Adrian: mix it up a bit and scold more men, it's much less obvious that way.
