Oh joy. Channel 4.

I might just say I have no pronouns, so prefer.. no, insist that no one ever use any pronouns when referring to me, whether I'm there or not. Enjoy what you've done to language kids! :-)

MrsJayy · 05/05/2018 19:59

I watched I am cait the transwomen employed by E to be Caitlyns buddies didn't like CJ very much

AngryAttackKittens · 05/05/2018 20:07

This is a valid criticism.

Many LGBTQ+ people openly dislike Caitlyn Jenner, and she is no spokesperson for diverse communities.

This is not.

Don’t mock us by putting a Trump supporter onstage to “represent” us.

I think Trump is the living embodiment of everything that's wrong with America but I assume some trans people voted for him.

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 05/05/2018 22:58

it's just pathetic star-fuckery

LaSqrrl · 05/05/2018 23:12

Number: Caitlyn is against marriage equality.

Life-long Republican supporter. However, 60yo Jenner just announced and engagement to a 21yo transwoman. The Republicans might boot CJ soon. CJ crossed the Republican compulsory-heterosexuality line.

Lily's indignation is hilarious. "It should have been meeeeeeeeeeee!" LOL
In my head, I can see the accompanying foot stompies going along with that.

LaSqrrl · 05/05/2018 23:14

Having Jenner speak about diversity in the Uk is like having peppa pig speak to. Parliament about vegan rights

Or perhaps more like Colonel Sanders speaking to Parliament on behalf of chicken rights?

AngryAttackKittens · 05/05/2018 23:49

If an actual 60 year old woman had just gotten engaged to a 21 year old let's just take a moment to imagine how different the headlines would be.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 06/05/2018 00:29

Maybe someone needs to explain to Ms Madigan what Diversity means?

Listening to someone who thinks differently/is different to you.

Whether you like it or not Grin

loveyouradvice · 06/05/2018 01:41

Does anyone know why C4- or even how they pubicly explain - made such an unusual choice?

Seems utterly bizarre... so clearly a poor fit that opens them to ridicule..... and deeply unintelligent on this level - not something i would expect of decision makers at C4

LaSqrrl · 06/05/2018 02:30

I really don't know loveyouradvice. Strange, innit?

MadBadDaddy · 06/05/2018 02:36

I identify as a Rich Self-Fuelling Celebrity. Hear me roar "Cash, only please."

LassWiADelicateAir · 06/05/2018 04:46

The point of it is Jenner will give the annual keynote lecture hosted by Channel 4 in the House of Commons. The lecture was set up by the broadcaster three years ago as an opportunity for high-profile figures to speak out publicly on the importance of diversity in the entertainment industry.

2016's speaker was Idris Elba and 2017's was Riz Ahmed (I had to Google him)

Not a particularly diverse choice is it?

picklemepopcorn · 06/05/2018 07:47

So a British Pakistani male actor, a black British male actor, and now Jenner.

So many other choices available. Pah.

noeffingidea · 06/05/2018 07:53

Oh, let them get on with it. I expect Caitlyn Jenner will present themselves in a bad light as usual.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/05/2018 08:06

I think it's hilarious. TRAs going mental on twitter because they weren't picked.

Madagain going tonto because 'Trump'. But really it's because LM wasn't picked

The comments on that petition are interesting

Notthatwomanagain · 06/05/2018 08:22

Isn’t Justine Robert’s husband head of channel 4?

Does this explain/give context to the direction of MN Towers recent decisions?

Pratchet · 06/05/2018 08:24

Why was Jenner chosen? It's not something a TRA would do. I hope people who've left mumsnet can see what's happening here. So many smoke signals.

picklemepopcorn · 06/05/2018 08:26

I don't think it does. I think some influencers are in a tricky position right now, and that includes Justine. MN is doing a tightrope act, and generally doing it ok.

Sometimes in our rage on here, we do get personal and make personal attacks on people. I think it is ok for MN to draw a line. And yes, what is said here is nothing in comparison to the disgusting talk from TRAs on twitter etc, but that isn't MN's responsibility whereas this is!

To be fair Riz Ahmed and Idris Elba are both very talented actors.

If you had to google Riz Ahmed to find out who he is you're really missing out, he is one of the most talented actors of his generation imo.

boatyardblues · 06/05/2018 08:43

It does read more like a ‘diverse males’ list than something truly diverse. No women? No one with a disability?

Popchyk · 06/05/2018 09:28

I suspect they think Jenner ticks the woman box.

MadBadDaddy · 06/05/2018 11:27

"MN is doing a tightrope act, and generally doing it ok" is putting it mildly and doesn't just apply to MNHQ.

PositivelyPERF · 06/05/2018 15:31

I fully support how Justine is allowing us to discuss these issues and I’ve had a few posts deleted. I’m actually getting pissed off with people repeatedly bringing up her husband’s job as I thought we, as feminists, were opposed to defining a woman by her husband’s job. She comes across as a very strong woman and I’m sure she’s well able to make her own decisions, regarding Mumsnet. On the plus side, if channel four continues to let enough misogynistic TIMs, as opposed to transsexuals and genuine trans people who intend to go down the full route of transition, on Tv then the more change of people seeing the reality of what women face.

PositivelyPERF · 06/05/2018 15:32

Change = chance
