MNHQ Deletion Policy

TheUterati · 30/04/2018 17:03

Earlier today the Trans Park Run thread was deleted in its entirety because SOME posts alleging cheating were deemed to be 'not in the spirit' of MN.

We have a thread about that running.

I have just been deleted on the Heather Peto thread for posting this:

"Bless..."

A post intended to be mildly dismissive.

That was deleted for breaking talk guidelines.

Give me a fucking break MNHQ.

"Bless..." gets a deletion!??!?!

TRA really have got you on a short chain, haven't they?

Goady posts have always been deleted, @Knitten. As ever - it's case-by-case, but where we think a post is goady, we will delete it, yes.

LangCleg · 30/04/2018 17:33

Sophie - thanks for replying. On a couple of other threads, users have suggested that the MN mod team might benefit from training in coercive control and how it can be used to disrupt. I'm not referring to anything in particular but since this thread is particularly concerned with moderating it seemed an opportune moment to bring the suggestion to your attention.

KnittinKitten · 30/04/2018 17:34

That just isn’t true sophie. There are far too many instances I could mention to prove it but please don’t treat us like idiots.

Hygge · 30/04/2018 17:34

Are you going to delete *IWillReport's" goady post as well?

AngryAttackKittens · 30/04/2018 17:35

That user name is a clear statement of intent to harass other commenters. Is that now considered acceptable?

sanluca · 30/04/2018 17:36

What Hygge says. That post is gloating and offensive all in one.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/04/2018 17:38

Surely creating an account for the sole purpose of harassing other commenters is a violation of Talk guidelines? If not then I refer you back to LangCleg's suggestion about getting some training on coercive control.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/04/2018 17:38

A thread with many deletions is liable to be interpreted by those with a particular axe to grind as having been riddled with 'offensive' posts. Even if they were actually as incredibly mild as 'bless'.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/04/2018 17:40

Everyone is free to report any post they believe breaks talk guidelines. No need to say anything about it on the thread.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/04/2018 17:41

On another thread we had someone accusing Ereshkigal of having a deleted comment contain things that she said it did not. Mass deletion makes that particular form of goady behavior much easier to perpetrate.

FFS. 🙄

AnnUnderTheFryingPan · 30/04/2018 17:42

I’d consider Iwills post above patronising and belittling.

IWillReportAllTransphobicPosts · 30/04/2018 17:42

I highlighted the first report as it is specifically on a thread about deleted comments.

I will not advise of others I report.

Good day 🙂

Hygge · 30/04/2018 17:42

"Everyone is free to report any post they believe breaks talk guidelines. No need to say anything about it on the thread."

No need to report a post because you want it taken down but also provide a link to a website where you've saved it before it disappears.

If you want a post deleting that badly, why store it elsewhere?

Unless you want to intimidate the person who posted it?

SupermatchGame · 30/04/2018 17:42

Lang could I please suggest you try and understand the rudiments of bullying, harassment, oppression and transphobia before you start trying to tell the Moderators how to do their jobs?

AngryAttackKittens · 30/04/2018 17:43

If someone created a user account under the name IWillReportAllBiologicallyInaccurateStatements would that be a neutral act not intended to harass or intimidate?

(Again, MNHQ, about that training on coercive control, it's really overdue.)

LangCleg · 30/04/2018 17:44

Malicious reporting is as much coercive control of the mods as it is any of us commenting. @MNHQ - I really think you should help your staff out with training because this must be extremely stressful work.

KnittinKitten · 30/04/2018 17:44

Why do you need to announce it with your name iwill? Just report what you don’t like.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 30/04/2018 17:45

It's like that Warren in Watership Down where the farmer feeds the rabbits and gives them myxomatosis or something.

Or did you mean another warren?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 30/04/2018 17:47

Oh God. Someone reporting threads. That has literally never happened on MN before and we're all terrified of you and your full stops. Hmm

AngryAttackKittens · 30/04/2018 17:48

It would also be useful to look into the tactics used to attack websites in general. If the current coordinated attack via the comments doesn't work then the people organizing it will no doubt move on to another method.
